A lot of things in the minifig world are massively oversized in scale.  A watchmaker with oversized precision instruments would fit in well.

I think a printed piece would solve for watchmaker - I think there was a watch printed around minifigure’s arm. So - what if a watchmaker’s small shop includes a 1x1 hemispherical brick piece that is printed with watches over it - say, put it under a glass display. Or a broken watch is printed on 2x4 tile for watchmaker’s work desk.

Jamie in a different interview said that this is a downtown street so commercial will be a priority and sth like a hospital would be less likely

I saw that same interview. I was bit disappointed with the hospital answer, but he did say that a hospital is still possible it would just have to fit the aeathetic of a downtown look.

Oh, sure—but I feel like relying mainly on new prints to suggest the "function" of a business might run a bit counter to the spirit of the modulars (and a print like a broken watch printed on a desk might have limited potential for reuse). If you made them a watch AND clockmaker, you could still have a new printed watch face tile or something along those lines on the desk but also fill some of the space in the workshop with larger brick-built clocks like a grandfather clock or cuckoo clock, along with builds of other essential features like a workbench and tools.

I was about to say that a clockmaker would be awesome actually and kinda fits the type and style of businesses lego has been going for. Imagine a nice little brick built coocoo clock! 🙌🏻

Also, I hope we keep getting more DH sets. Lots of potential ideas... off the top of my head in Pt 1: Battle of the Seven Potters (A way to get Bill) The Wedding Attack (Death Eaters maybe?) Obviously we just got the Ministry infiltration, Xenophilus House, the fight with Bellatrix at Malfoy Manner. DH Pt. 2 definitely Gringotts no question, the part with Neville and the wooden bridge (Neville and Ginny) loads of various fight scenes arpund different castle with parts of the castle you can destroy, the forest where Harry "dies", final duel?! Idk just a few ideas that I think would make logically the most sense 🤷🏻🤔

In one of the recent interviews with the designer, he said that although they keep a list of fan wishes in mind (like the police station), they like to surprise us and don’t want to be too predictable.

The Fassade should also give clue to what’s inside and not a generic building with any storefront

Then no hospital then, but at least a town clinic? Dermatologist or Psychiatrist, even? They have offices in downtowns, blending in with many businesses.

Perhaps even a massage therapist! LOL

Oh wait, how about a full-blown spa?

I did a double take reading this post, thinking I'd accidently opened the wrong thread!

Omg I am so sorry about this. I was certain I wrote this in another thread.

We've all done it at some point... don't sweat it!

Sure. Any of these might be possible, but as the secondary business on the top floor. Like the dentist in AS and vet in CG

Pharmacy might be a good idea for a ground floor business

Having had a look at a few more photos of JC, including ones lining it up next to other modulars, here is my current list of planned mods:

Street:

Remove table/chairs (looks like it came straight out of a City polybag)

Ground floor exterior:

Swap dark azure to medium blue (less bright)

Swap floor tiles at club entrance from dark red and dark orange to light tan and flame yellow (tie in colour from sign)

Swap lilac door to brown with windows

Swap dark green of awning stripes to “medium” green (I hate the bright red / dark green combination)

Ground floor interior:

Partition wall between club and pizzeria with narrow standing table for customers

First/second floor exterior:

Remove flowers and place next to greenhouse (completely meaningless - you wouldn’t be able to see them from inside, and the colours clash)

Replace some/all of 1x1 reddish brown tiles on club facade with dark orange (I honestly don’t know what they’re supposed to represent - doesn’t look like an architectural feature; my best guess is a variation in brick colour, in which case dark orange is more realistic/pleasing)

Replace medium nougat around pizzeria windows with light tan (less weird looking in the absence of pieces in light yellow)

- Comic store. With a lot of comics, some pop culture toys and a back room (or upper floor) where they can play D&D. Maybe a small novelty shop next to it where you can buy all kind of weird and old stuff like a sword, an old book, a pixie in a cage.

I love this.

Like a comic store or board game place with a little communal area at the back for the locals to play and practice.

For the bric-a-brac shop, I am picturing something along the lines of the shop from Gremlins - lots of nooks and crannies and stacked shelves and excuses to references older lego lines with easter eggs. With a store of this style, it's also an excuse to have a more asian style of facade on the front - like American bones to the building but with an obviously-added-later facade.

With a building this style, maybe some kind of asian food mart or restaraunt is a natural neighbour, and the whole thing can have something a little more Ninjago in style.

Had some further thoughts on this... If they make a comic store, they can reference some Marvel or DC sets for future production! Maybe we'll finally get some more X-men after that! LOL

I'm rather taken by the idea of what small/micro businesses could fit into a little alcove in a larger modular, similar to the newspaper stand in the police station.

Watch/clock workshop

Sweet treats hole in the wall (ice cream, waffles, crepes)

Greetings card store

Hat/scarf shop

What else would work well?

Yes, they need to make another building with a small hole in the wall. When you put the JC on the left hand side of the PC, the Pizza and the Donut shops "align" and look more balanced. That leaves the newspaper stand looking so "sunken" into an alley when placed beside a regular modular building.

What else would work?

Money exchange shop.

ATM.

Fortune teller.

Potter's shop.

Chinese food shop with hanging barbecued pork/ duck (these establishments are everywhere now so they are not specific to one location or continent!).

Boba/ milk tea shop.

Flower shop.

Organic juice stall.

Travel and Tours stall.

The X-Men will be coming to the Marvel movies very soon as we will be getting more and more as the years go by.
I just finished the Daily Bugle and besides the build being incredibly boring (400 windows) it's massive and beautiful. I hope we get another building soon and not more lame overpriced garbage like we did this year.

My town had a cobbler shop that also sold model trains until the cobbler retired.

Small barber shop

Antiques store

Cultural organization, like a Suomi-Hall

Travel office

Phone store

Insurance office

Honestly I'd rather the non-licensed modulars refrain from referencing any "real world" IP. The comic shop in the Ninjago City set had a better approach, with references to past Lego themes as well as some more generic sorts of sci-fi memorabilia.

Chinese takeout or boba would be awesome, but it'll probably be some time before we get it since we juts got a food related building with the pizza shop... also we already got a flower shop in AS.

Love these thoughts, I really want to lean into the 'Ronnie Scotts/ Harlem Jazz Club' vibe so.. Here are my plans.

Street:

  • Swap the tiles at the doorway with some pearl gold

Pizzeria:

  • Bye bye. its the wrong yellow for a Mediterranean stucco building, the yellow should be something along the lines of bright light orange, the pillars would make more sense as being white and and as I've said before this architecture style doesn't suit a pizzeria IMO. I'll come up with a use for the yellow building later on, most likely a 16 wide deli/Jamon shop. I will likely leave these pieces es mostly in their bag for now.

JC ext:

  • Swap all blue with black, will use 1x2 with groove or fluted profile where possible for some texture so it's not totally flat.
  • Add some more pearl gold accents on the ground floor.
  • Place in the centre of the baseplate and build it out, recessing the extensions 1 brick like the centre of the building.
  • I think it would look better to mirror the central window feature in the new side extensions which looks lovely but obscured by the sign.
  • Swap the ground floor windows for door frames and pop some more posters in there, or an interesting printed glass.
  • Possibly replace the printed sign with a brick built version in the style of the Cafe Corner hotel sign and use the tiles as a poster.

JC Int: With the extra 12 studs of real estate I think there's room for.

  • Priority woulds be to build a bigger stage, add a grand piano, Trumpeter, full drum kit, Uplighters, perhaps a chandelier
  • The managers office could be expanded OR turn it into a mezzanine floor with more seating for people to watch the band. (like the Club in Marvel's Luke Cage which is loosely based on the famous 'Cotton Club' in Harlem
  • Swap out the floor tiles with a warmer toned feel or a mosaic.
  • Posters and art on the walls
  • A cocktail bar

possible moonshot:

  • Stick the Jazz quartet on the roof as a giant 3d advert.

Here's a pretty terrible photoshop job that I made to illustrate my idea. I'll share the finished project mid-January!

So, I found both the Police Station and no 12 Grimmauld Place under the tree, lucky girl that I am. I do have both modular and Harry Potter displays set up separately, but I was wondering if anyone have combined 12 Grimmald Place with the modulars and have a picture?
