The postman just delivered my copy of 'The Lego Neighborhood Book' by Brian and Jason Lyles. As a relative newcomer to Lego, I find the book very helpful. Especially with construction of interior pieces......an area where I don't know very much. Information on how to design furniture for several different types of rooms for houses and businesses. Also some great instructions on how to construct some relatively simple buildings.

A good starting point and motivator for someone like me who needs a kick in the behind to try MOCs.

I believe they are talking about the yellow you can find one the Friends school (41005)

http://brickset.com/.../Heartlake-High

I think I will get this set for my 11yo niece, she likes the 'Friends' line. Then I can see what the color looks like in real life. I like it, but maybe can be overbearing if not put with the right accent colors. Black, white, dark gray look good with it.

I always cringe when I hear an idea of importing something from Friends or City over to Modulars. TLG market research and plans were to design a product aimed at AFOLs. The result was the modular building series. While some colors/ideas from Friends or City could work in Modular, I want modulars to retain their original target market of AFOLs. 16+ as it says on many of the modular boxes. Yes, I realize that Lego is a toy. But, I want modulars to retain their more, for lack of a better word, 'mature' appearance. When people visit my house and see the modulars on display they don't immediatly ask if I have children. They appreciate the modulars as a nice adult display and hobby. And that's the look that I want to retain.

There are quite a few colorful buildings where I live, I doubt kids chose the colors. I think it's perfectly reasonable to work in a few more 'Friends' colors as long as it's done tastefully. That yellow and dark gray building is fantastic! I'm even considering a bright light yellow grocer now.

This goes a bit offtopic, but Off the Wall, I don't think you should overlook Friends or City if you are about to create MOCs. Since it's a hobby, everyone can of course create their own limits and play by their own rules, none of us has a say there, but I've found the Friends shops and the few City buildings that we get very inspiring and I hope you could give them a chance.

Cool yellow is a wonderful and very realistic color (I just came from Vienna, Austria and while marveling at the beautiful architecture there, noticed that many old buildings were "cool yellow") and I've actually hoped that the next modular would have this color. Well, if and when the next modular is a detective agency, I doubt they will choose cool yellow unless it's some kind of Miami Vice style art deco building...

Let me give you one example where the basis of my moc is Friends-based. Actually the Heartlake Juice Bar is practically in its original condition here. I've added a similar one as a mirror image (might become a surf shop) and added a small ice cream parlour (interior from Olivia's ice cream bike x 2) in the corner. It sits on two 32x32 baseplates. The 2nd and 3rd floors are empty right now, but the top floor houses a nightclub, all furnished in LDD. Sure, the architecture is more modern than in the official modulars, but if you are going to start moc-ing, then why not try different styles as well? No city in the world has buildings only from one era.

(For what it's worth, I have the ground floor brick-built already and I have most pieces required for the upper floor exteriors. I'm in the process of moving houses, though, and it's going to take a while before I can continue the actual building. In the meanwhile, I'll have to be satisfied just playing around with LDD. When this is finally completed, I will be sure to present it to everyone, perhaps together with my other Friends-based MOC, a 48 x 32 Pet salon (x2) cool yellow building.)

Mine just arrived today and it is wonderful. Heck the drug store plans alone are worth the cost. But I love all the exterior detail tricks they show off and teach.

It wouldn't be too surprising to see some Friends colors introduced into the Modulars. The olive green of the PR was originally made for Chima, no?

I thought there was some sort of internal moratorium against using Friends colors for System sets? Or is that just City?

I was also happy with it - I am going to use some of the ideas for fitting out my bricklinked Green Grocer and I also like the awesome black lamppost ideas. It's pretty good for a relatively inexperienced AFOL like myself.

Since its now VIP 2x month, I was perusing the US S@H site. Noticed that the TH is now 'sold out,' the PS is 'out of stock, ship in 30 days,' and GE is 'call to check availability.' I think they are getting snatched up thinking the end is near for each. Judging how the GE has gone from available to sold out and back again over the last month or so, I am sure the others will too.

I should have gone to the Lego store that's two miles from my house. But, I can't stand the mall experience. So, I waited too long and noticed that lego.com was pretty much out of stock on everything I wanted. So, I settled for another PC. I'll use its parts on one of the MOCs shown in the Lego Neighborhood Book. I could have been half way to the store in the time it took to write this post. But, I'm so lazy..........

I would die for an official Lego store two miles from my house. :P

But the real problem is, that we don't even have an official Lego store in our entire country! :(

For a country with so many passionate Legobuilders, it is a shame that there isn't a Lego Store.... On the other hand, there are so many webshops in the Netherlands where you can order sets till 22.00 hours and they will be delivered the next day, mostly within 16 hours after ordering... and that for even a lower price than the prices in the official Legostore.. For me, living at the border with Germany, it is a one hour drive to the Lego Store Oberhausen... But, wether you have a Legostore near or not..there is still no news about the Detective Agency......

According to the calendar, some exclusive set will be revealed on 6th October on the LEGO shop facebook page. I'm hoping this will be it. Otherwise there is another exclusive reveal on the November calendar, but hopefully we won't have to wait that long.

I'm guessing one will be the modular reveal, and the other will be the SW Slave I reveal. The question is which comes first?

I have that page bookmarked in FB, I know the recent Bionicle review, it wasn't until late afternoon US time that the announcement was made...hoping it is the modular myself, the rumors and endless waiting is getting tiring...course we get that, then come January we all buy it and then another year of waiting, vicious cycle
