The last few modulars feel targeted towards a new audience vs. Those of us who have been collecting them for a while. I abstained from buying the jazz club to keep my lego money for other sets. I think I might do the same with this one and maybe even sell out of my collection, put the modulars behind me, and focus on something else. Modular prices are no longer attractive enough to buy one hoping it will grow on you. Oh well, TLG will get my money anyway, but doubtful for this set. I don't know why on earth you're assuming this'll be a "dumbed down building experience", let alone that that's a trend—it's been what, two years since the geometric marvel that is the Boutique Hotel? This one doesn't seem quite as novel architecturally but that seems more like a consequence of the architectural style being a little more rectangular by design. As for the number of figs, I expect that's mainly meant to help to populate its wider-than-average floor plan. Quote

mapimi Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 First Modular I'm thinking of adding a floor too with maybe with a theatre for science shows and a little café in the extra floor Quote

Or a mix of both to make it a cool brick structure that's also nicely vibrant. Seeing the heck out the box, it really does feel a bit small, despite being 32x48. I like it, but it feels like each floor needs an extra brick or two in height. Or maybe a third floor on the roof with dorma windows, so it's a bit more imposing on the street. Of course, it then becomes $400, so... Quote
astra Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 Every year it amazes me what they think of and every year when I'm building it, I always have fun in the new or different techniques they use. And with all of the previous buildings, this will be a day one purchase for me. Quote

Gnukan Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 Looks good but lacks the wow factor for me that some modulars had (the hotel for example). I was picturing it covered in ivy which (I think) would’ve made it a bit more cozy. As it is, it feels more imposing which I guess is accurate from the natural history museums I’ve seen. Quote

I think that's exactly it! As good as this is, it does not amaze. I think if Lego had gone for a not-so-grand but detail-packed Post Office, more of us would be raving about it. Boutique Hotel was really a tough act to follow - concept, architecture, technique and color scheme. It did not help that the Jazz Club was big let-down for many (and ironically the same designer!) This building is not half as bad (I would argue, not a quarter as bad) as the Jazz Club. (Online, I feel Lego could continue selling AS and just discontinue Jazz Club.) Quote

BrickFit26 Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 I really hope the interior is not too empty like the Book Shop that was missing BOOKS. Quote

Maybe the design team focused too much on the interior, such as fossils, space exhibit, etc and only little on the archiecture? I mean, I don’t know how long it takes during a designing process before they release modular set yearly. Personally, as a new collector, I have built Police Station, Boutique Hotel, Jazz Club, Downtown Diner, and Bookshop within a year. They somehow amaze me. I’m sure museum will amaze me while building it in person. :) P.S., I will build Parisian and Corner Garage later - I’m sure they will amaze me. Quote

But let’s enjoy this one for December 1st !? We have had private mailboxes in Green Grocer, and red public ones in sets since Grand Emporium. I don't think it's a hint, and besides, post offices aren't exactly exciting places to be. You go in, wait in line, buy stamps or drop off / pickup a package, and then go home. That's all. Nothing fun there (unless you collect stamps!) for the citizens, and just sorting behind in the employees-only area. It's actually quite a boring place tbh, which might explain why we haven't had one in a set since the the Winter Village one in 2011. (which wasn't exactly beloved at the time!) We might get mail truck someday, but then again, those are pretty regionally localized, unless it's very iconic. (a classic British mail truck or a 1990's-now US mail truck, are all I can think of in that department.) ..so yeah, post office likely isn't gonna happen. Quote
Ogist Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 Maybe it doesn't have the "wow factor", but it looks just fine to me. The color is unusual for a museum, but not bad. I believe there is a lot interesting things inside the building and I like the minifigures. I also like how big the set is. When it comes out once a year, I'd rather pay an extra $50-$100 more and get a nicer set. All in all, one of the most beautiful modular buildings so far. Quote

Basically, every city needs post office. How could they deliver mail/package as city gets bigger (as of Oct 29, museum is 19th modular building). Surely, posti office is less exciting but it’s still possible. Hospital / pharmacy / doctor’s clinic is not exciting but could be possible. Hardware store is not exciting but could be possible. Do not underesmtaite Lego beuase it’s competely unpredictable. Edited October 29, 2023 by Lion King Quote
Legocentrico Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 Hellooooo :-D I collect modulars but I'm a Marvel fan, this building is great for comic city!!! I wonder if with these measurements it will fit in the IKEA Detolf display case Quote

Exactly. Brick Master Jamie did say in an interview that a Post Office is possible. Quote

Or to take a more recent example the florist that formed a part of Assembly Square. A post office could be the ground floor of a 16w building. I don't like the colour, like others I feel it gives a haunted house vibe rather than museum. Once pictures are released officially I would very much appreciate it if the skilled Photoshoppers on her could render a recolour in dark tan. Olive green worked well in PR, but I can't think of any other use for the colour. Thing is though that in my mind I have a set idea of a natural history museum which is the gothic one in Kensington, so anything that differs will never feel right to me. I think one difference there is variety—a grocer, at least, has multiple types of wares and displays (such as the baskets of produce outside or the refrigerated cases in the back). A post office, on the other hand, pretty much exclusively deals in envelopes and parcels. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it'd be more of a challenge to make it interesting. Though, as you say, making it one business as part of a larger modular could help. Quote

The detail in the architecture is amazing. But would have been hard to translate into LEGO. But I agree that the facade needs more detail a la Parisian Restaurant. Though the roof line of the museum does have similarities to the PR. Quote
tafkatb Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 This one looks nice but it's not for me. I think Warm Tan could have been a really good color for this style of building, though apparently that's still restricted to skin tones. I'm still looking forward to seeing more detailed pictures because I always love poring over those regardless of whether I actually want the set. Quote

lostdriveway Posted October 29, 2023 Posted October 29, 2023 I like it - but with some saying it lacks wow factor I agree and I think that is because the buildings next to it are taller. Definitely think it needs another level or 2 and it would make a huge difference in appearance (but also price). I am also a little bummed with the Dino skeleton. Think it could be bigger / better as well. Will work on that. Quote
