RichardGoring Posted June 18, 2024 Posted June 18, 2024 I saw in Brick Clicker's latest video that the Ideas minifig stand designs are now available from Pick a Brick. He got it from Brick Fanatics, and as I can't find it anywhere else, it feels right to post the link, but OMG, their site is such a spam-fest of cyclical or useless links. Three of them seem particularly suitable for the modular buildings. Minifigure Crossing Stand - 200 pieces - $29.56/£25.62 Remote Control Car Minifigure Stand - 200 pieces - $22.50/£19.93 Botanical Minifigure Stand - currently out of stock, but maybe 158 pieces? It’s usually a good site for info, but OMG are you right, and it’s got so much worse in the last 12 months or so. It’s so bad that occasionally my tablet simply refuses to load it up. Such a shame to have to deal with that rubbish. I like the cross walk figure stand, but just wish they’d made it fit into the ‘new’ road plates. It’s an easy fix, but surely a no brainer from a design perspective. Quote

But I doubt they would do that. Still, I like that cross walking setting. By the way, are those packs designed by interns? Quote

paupadros Posted July 10, 2024 Posted July 10, 2024 Out of pure interest, what is your general assessment of the modulars released since the Diner? Maybe my standards are too high but I genuinely feel a massive dip in quality. I feel that I only really like the Boutique Hotel and the Jazz Club. But "like", not love like some of the classics. I honestly loved the Birch Books, I know that's a somewhat controversial opinion. Boutique Hotel is one of my all time favourites, up there with Parisian Restaurant. Police Station was fine. Never even bothered with Corner Garage (or the diner), not my aesthetic. Haven't gotten to the last two yet, but Jazz Club gives me same vibes as the Police Station. Museum looks good. So, quite a mixed bag for me. Quote
RichardGoring Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 The only one I really love since Downtown Diner is the Boutique Hotel. But all the rest are good, solid models, and, for me, leagues ahead of some of the older ones. Cafe Corner, Market Street, Green Grocer, Grand Emporium, Pet Shop, and Town Hall don't really excite me. Palace Cinema isn't that great either, by today's standards. And while I do really love the Fire Brigade, the build is so poor compared to all of those since Parisian Restaurant. Quote
Lion King Posted July 11, 2024 Posted July 11, 2024 I really like Poice Station and Boutqiue Hotel. I like Jazz Club. I am currently building Parisian Restaurant and I gotta say that I’m impressed by how it looks. Although the building techniques are little bit basic, they still amaze me. I will do Corner Garage and Assembly Square later. I will build Natural History Museum too. Quote
Kalahari134 Posted July 12, 2024 Posted July 12, 2024 I love the bookshop, and the hotel is a beautiful set. I also like the police station's facade, though I wish that it was full width. Quote
crowe-k Posted July 13, 2024 Posted July 13, 2024 I prefer the older modulars but I am an older collector that has seen designs become more advanced since I was a kid in the 80s and as such, the originals hold a special space in my heart. That being said, I have no issue with the newer modulars and am especially enamour ed with Boutique Hotel, Jazz Club and the Bookshop. Design features and vibrant colours make them pop. If I had to choose one of the newer ones, I would have to go with the Boutique Hotel. Who am I kidding, I love them all! Quote
jonwil Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 My favorite of all the modulars has to be the Police Station. I would LOVE to see a modular hospital for sure. Quote

To be honest I think something has to be more floors than that to qualify as a skyscraper—traditionally "skyscrapers" were ten stories or more. Some of the Marvel modulars (Daily Bugle and Avengers Tower) have faked that effect by using smaller windows on the exterior to create the illusion of buildings having more floors than they actually do on the inside, but I don't know if that trick is necessarily appropriate for the main modular series. I'd much rather continue to have smaller buildings with logical exteriors and interiors, with the option remaining for fans with the resources to do so to expand those buildings upward by duplicating floors if they so choose. icm Posted July 14, 2024 Posted July 14, 2024 I'd say within the reduced scale of Lego, five floors would be a pretty good Modular Buildings skyscraper. Probably cost about $500 though. Quote

I really hope they don't do it. The Marvel sets look totally out of scale compared to the modulars to me, so it would be a real shame if they changed the scale to do a skyscraper in the Icons modulars. It also irks me that they have different floors on the outside to the inside. Totally with you that they should continue with smaller buildings with exteriors and interiors that match. Quote

Yoggington Posted July 15, 2024 Posted July 15, 2024 I recently built the 'Flatiron' MOC from Brick Active, and it feels like the right way to do a 'skyscraper'. In modular terms it is four floors tall (three and a half & a roof really). It is far from towering over the other modulars, but it does feel & look distinctly taller. Not without it's flaws, but a rather clever build for many reasons. ( https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-185075/BrickAtive/flatiron/#details ) Quote

It could probably have another floor or two added to make it really tower, although it also feels like the footprint is too small for that, and you'd have to extend it over another 16x32 baseplate to give the building the footprint it needs to make it taller. I'm hoping that's what the planned extension does, so we'll see. Of course, at 4000 pieces already, adding two floors and essentially doubling the footprint means the piece count would be huge, so there's always compromises for it. Quote
Lion King Posted July 17, 2024 Posted July 17, 2024 I always wonder if they cold do 0.5 (16x32) modus buidling for this series just like they did Bookshop and Pet Shop in the past. I feel it’s more easier to mix and match them with other full (32x32) modular buildings. And it would be more affordable for half modular building. I really wish they could do Chinese restaurant from Lunar New Year as a modular building instead of a “opened” building. Of course, we can MOD it. But I think it’s cool to see more 0.5 modular buildings. Sure, it’s unlikely. Sure, it will drain your wallet if you buy both half and full modular buildings in same year. Quote
DimiNi Posted July 19, 2024 Posted July 19, 2024 I just saw this MOC on Rebrickable: https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-124447/BrickAtive/andrews-church/#details Since Lego will now also build religious architecture buildings (thanks to Notre Dame), I see a Church like that not as unlikely. What are now the top predictions for this year? Quote

I guess we might get some leak between August and October this year. 15 hours ago, hikouki said: Not been keeping tabs of any so called "easter eggs" but wonder if there are any featured in some already released sets that may be a clue to any upcoming modular... Like what? I could understand that Boutique Hotel had Easter egg (music hall ad) pointed us to Jazz Club. But Jazz club didn’t have any Easter eggs for Natural History Museum, right? Quote
