I dont think they are going to make an inverted corner, because it just does not have so much display-ability.

Ofc collectors need that kind of buildings for their Cities, but I dont think Lego is going to release a Set where only 1/5 is a front and the rest are walls :D

I half agree and half disagree with you.

I agree with you that it might not be able to display IF it’s only a 32x32 baseplate.

I don’t agree with you. I do think inverted corner buidling would look fantastic in any way. An inverted corner.building could be easy and flexible to put it into a city layout. Something different and unique…  I wold imagine if Lego desginers pull out 1.5 baseplate for an inverted corner building.. Of course, it will cost a space. And Natural History Museum is a latest 1.5 baseplate set on shelf, which it’s not likely for the next Modular building to be made an inverted corner building on 1.5 baseplate until later.

However, I won’t say it’s impossible for inverted corner buidling. I mean who knows?

I also don't think Lego is going to make an inverted corner, because the modular buildings are not only designed for a city, but also to be displayed on shelves. An inverted corner building always has one 'ugly' side facing the front.
But maybe they'll surprise us one day :)

A few years ago I made an inverted corner out of the Assembly Square. It helped to put part of the facade it a little backward. That gave a bit of extra room to display the facade.

Looks like Animal Crossing and Super Mario have thier first-look sets for January 2025. I really can’t wait to see some juicy leaks/info on the. Next modular building….

Probably gonna have to wait longer for that, the main reason we're seeing Animal Crossing/Mario this early is because of a major game conference/expo in Germany. Lego has no need to time a modular reveal that far ahead.

Oh i know but I’m just little impatient with waiting for the next modular building. Last August, I think we got a few leaks, such as piece counts. Yeah Animal Crossing / Super Mario are not like D2C sets being shrouded in mystery.

The idea of an inverted corner gets brought up whenever we're due a corner building. I think it was "rumoured" by people the year the Diner came out as well.

I just don't see how it would work.

As a build, there would be only a tiny part of visible architecture.

In terms of display, anyone displaying it on a shelf would be forced to display at least one of the ugly sides of the building.

This build demonstrates the problem of an inverted corner being sold as a stand-alone set. It wouldn't make a good display piece and only works if you have a city layout that is built around the concept.

Is there a real-life inverted corner building that people could point to as inspiration? Most of those I can think of are part of a much larger building, something you couldn't do in 32x32

Maybe one of those pick-a-brick blank space modulars would be a better way to sell an inverse corner set.  Make it half alleyway, half green space or something.

The only way I could see an inverted corner working, is if it were the back corner of a regular corner, if that makes sense. So the set would primarily be a standard corner, but you could turn it around so the back is facing the front, and you have an inverted corner.

Inverted corner or just a corner build... I am still hopeful for a post office! As of right now, there is one in the winter village series, and the hinted the new WV "hot air balloon ride" is anticipated to also have a post office from what I read somewhere (just a rumor so don't quote me)... but I need a post office in my modular line. Could have a postal truck as a GWP. Just my thoughts, next time they do the larger set, it should be a hospital (larger like Assembly Square and the Museum) Just my 2 cents. This is a rumor & discussion thread after all.

I'm hoping for a regular corner building since that's one of the open spots in my layout. I made an inverted corner MOC already and I don't think they offer much placement flexibility. A post office sounds good.

If Winter Village set turns out to be true that it’s including post office, will it mean there wont’ be another post office for Modular at the same time? Like we have Daily Bugle and modular building colelction was suppsoed to have newspapers building but it was scrapped.

How disappointed would the average AFOL be if they started releasing repeats?

By which I mean, not a brick-for-brick replica, but if this year's modular turned out to be another fire station with different design, or another town hall? Seems to be inevitable if the line continues on an annual basis (although it could still be years away yet).

Sure there'd be some annoyance from the people who've collected the old versions - but they are quite old now, difficult to get on the aftermarket for any kind of reasonable price. Building techniques and pieces have stepped up over the past decade too.

I wouldn't hate it.

...

Every AFOL would hate it as it devalues the old ones, or doesn't get an important detail of an old one right, or it doesn't look as good as the old one, or it takes up a slot that could have been a new function.

Every AFOL would love it, as it means they can get cinema or fire station or bank that they didn't have before, or it's great to see the homage and Easter eggs for older sets, or it shows that LEGO understands what they want.

I think it would be fine, but I suspect it may not happen for a while as there is a long list of things they've not done. And the designers will very likely generally want to do something new and be unencumbered by the past. And it has the potential of liming the market for people who already have a town hall or fire station, or bank, or whatever they come up with. Different style, yes, but will it put some people off? Might be a risk they don't need to take, so why bother?

It’s’ veteran vs new collectors… and I’m a new collector here. I started collecting modular building last year and I only bought two retired sets off eBay (Downtown Diner and Corner Garage) and got Assembly Square for Christmas.  I won’t chase after the older buildings like Cafe Corner, Fire Brigade, Town Hall, etc becuase I know the are very old and very basic. And EXPENSIVE in secondary market.

I do wish that Lego would re-make versions of those older buildings.  I will be happy to see them to have new architectural features

I don’t know if veterans would feel that way if they realize that the remake sets are much better or rather keep the older ones. It’s up to them if they both keep the old one and buy the new one.

Some of the techniques used in older buildings are no longer possible with revised parts or are downright illegal for designers to use as it stresses the elements. (Cafe Corner is an offender here) Some parts are no longer in production (Exo-Force hair / cabbages in Market Street comes to mind especially), the first few were also totally empty and fixing this would mean more money spent to make it fleshed out. Also, even though you have new collectors, after the backlash of when Winter Village Toy Shop being released, I think LEGO is a little wary of re-releases.

Ah, but the consideration was for new modulars that take the same function as old ones. A new fire station, town hall, cinema, bank etc. Not a replica of the old ones, but how would people feel about a new fire station of a different style?

You could argue that Boutique Hotel was this, in that it has a hotel and a cafe of sorts, like Cafe Corner did. Bookshop had a townhouse, which Petshop also had. But they are perhaps a little more generic than some of the others.

Having multiple town homes or restaurants or hotels is not the same as having multiple town halls or fire stations, though.  The former is fine, but the latter is where it might feel weird to some collectors.  I don't think it's a big problem.

On the subject of re-issue/refreshes, like the WV Toy Shop, I think that if they do it, that shouldn't take the 'slot' of something new.

I got back into lego in 2014 and first noticed the modular buildings with Detective's Office. I loved it the first time I saw it and it's still one of my favorites. Since then I have created my own Lego City using modulars along with other sets and a few mocs. As a completionist,  I have been acquiring all the modular buildings (not for insane prices though!) I recently bought Green Grocer for $300 (missing about 2 dozen common, easily replaceable parts and no minifigures). I still need Café Corner and Market Street. I would love for Lego to do a brick-for-brick re-release of those sets (not taking the place of the yearly release). I've considered buying off brand sets because it's so difficult to find a reasonably priced genuine Lego set. Having said that, if they did repeats I wouldn't be opposed to it as long as it was significantly different from the original set. If it was too similar but not a brick-for-brick re-release I think it would be really off-putting. There are so many building types and usages that haven't made it to official sets yet that anything too similar release would be a waste. Just my opinion though.

I wonder if it’s possible for Lego to put gay or lesbian minifigures in Modular Building Collection. Sure, we can use. Two random male minifigures  and use our imgination that they are gay.

Don’t get me wrong but thre are two minifigures in Parisian Restaurant - a man with ring to prose to his fiancée. It’s a part of the set’s story -Offaly.

You can't tell a person's sexual orientation by just looking at them, so unless it's outright stated, how would you tell? Also, all the bigots of the world would probably sadly start banning / burning Lego sets (For example, it happens with some books and things here in the USA, sadly) or slandering that LEGO designer (or worse!), so it would be a bad idea to do this.

As I stated, we use our imgination by picking up random male charact but ers…..  Howeevr, I would imagine lego designers include two rings for gay or lesbian minifigures or “kissing” faces for them.  Or a rainbow flag in apartment room.

I haven’t heard anything about bigots burning Lego sets? No it’s not a bad idea if Lego desginers to put LGBT characters into Lego world, there is ZERo tolerance for bigotry.   “Everything is Awesome” set is still available for purchase.  Lego S@H alllowed us to buy TWO Groom BrickHeadz sets or TWO Bridge Brickhedz. There are some gay characters in other themes, such as Dumbeldore. And there was a rainbow in Archiecture set some years ago. Oh yeah, and I forgot to include Queer Eye apartment set.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea for Lego to do LBGT+ stuff. Lego is NOT going to do favors for bigots, such as to stop including LGBT+ charters.

I'm not saying they should do favors for bigots, not at all... also LEGO burnings are not a thing, but book burnings sadly are a thing, albeit a bit uncommon. (Some days I wonder if I'm living in 2024 America, or Germany right before the election of 1933, and it scares me. I'm also not going to explain further on that one!)

We should probably stop this topic now, however. We've gotten into the weeds and it isn't even close to the original idea of the topic we are posting in.

So (crickets sounds), anything new under the sun ? Fall is coming soon and not even a little tiny hint of a theme, a color scheme, a piece count for our so awaited Modular ? Meanwhile, I’m happy to have receive today The old train engine shed; I love its color and design and it will be a wonderful inclusion in my City. It will become the departure point of my future purchase of City tramway, next year (no more budget for this year !)

The only obviously heterosexual minifigures in the modulars (that I can think of) are the courting couple in Parisian Restaurant and the bridal party in Town Hall. None of the other minifigures have an explicit orientation.
