Westbrick Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 Perfect thank you! Okay, I think that will be very easy to mod into a modular. Just no flower garden at the front and a couple of side bits for the connections. I think it looks great! Quote

Is it strange to anybody else that a middle class townhouse is taller than a mansion? : r/lego (reddit.com) That's utterly comical The Botanical Garden looks very good though. Extremely similar color scheme to the friends set, but that's not a bad thing in this case. Seems like we get another new transparent panel to form the corners of the glass roofs. Or did that exits before? Quote
RichardGoring Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 The botanical garden looks great! I like that it also seems easy to get into as well. Quote

cdmv Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 (edited) The Botanical Garden is the real bonus modular. The scale is absolutely perfect and the details (both interior and exterior) are amezing! It's missing the light bluish gray curb, lamppost and pins, but that's more a positive than a negative. It's better to build a park around it, than to place it in a street next to other builidings. Ironically the same could be said for the X-Mansion: it would function better as a standalone. That one has the connectivity, but it only detracts from the building. I would be curious to see it in a Creator 3 in 1 lay-out. It would propably look quite alright next to the 'mini-modulars' and/or as a achool next the 3 in 1 houses. The sclae of one of the alternate builds from set 4954 come to mind. Edited October 19, 2024 by cdmv Quote
Murdoch17 Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 (edited) @cdmv My god, that set 4954 is from 2007? That can't be 17 years ago - it's impossible! I remember looking into getting that set for my 13th birthday that year, but decided on that year's train station (set 7997) instead. ...I think I just aged into dust. Fenghuang0296 Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 I like the Botanical Gardens, I really do. Unfortunately, I like it so much that I already bought two copies of the Friends set that inspired this one and MOCced them into a custom Modular. So now this thing is redundant. Unless I tried combining them or something, that could be fun. The X-Mansion . . I want to like it, I really do. But it’s somehow even smaller than the Natural History Museum while costing $50 more? I already disliked the History Museum for being so short, and this is even worse. And the only exclusive characters are Gambit, Jean Gray and Iceman . . I’m sorry, but I just don’t care enough about those three to make buying it worth it. For that much money, I would be better off buying bricks in bulk and building my own MOC version of the X-Mansion to be bigger and better. I don’t want to skip it because I don’t want LEGO to stop making X-Men sets, but it’s just not good value for money. . Quote

Definitely won't be getting the X mansion, but I think the botanical garden just looks so good, I will likely get it. The architectural styles are similar though between it and the Friends one that they could very easily be two building as part of the same site. Quote

Honestly I’m now picturing modifying the new Botanical Garden to have an extra door at the back and redoing my current Greenhouse to attach to it as a ‘third wing’, making it a T-shaped building. I don’t think I have anywhere to put that very fiddly T-shaped arrangement of baseplates, I’d need a shelf two baseplates deep and all my current ones only fit one baseplate, and I like my city’s current setup on the tables too much to reconfigure it all just for this. But I do really like the idea, the more I think about it, so I’ll see what I can do and if budget allows, etcetera. Quote

Yes, I do think that perhaps Lego intended the Botanical Garden set as a 'park' feature and not an attached building of sorts. 53 minutes ago, Fenghuang0296 said: I like the Botanical Gardens, I really do. What I envision is different: - there is a park with two buildings, connected by a mini-park in between and perhaps even a stream with pond bridge. - the main building will be this 'modular' set. - the second building is a butterfly garden which would be the Friends set. It can even be an aviary, perhaps. Quote
karrit Posted October 19, 2024 Posted October 19, 2024 I'm thinking of adding the Friends Botanicals to the new one to make one huge building. There are some interesting new parts used and new parts usage in the Ideas set. Can't wait to see better pictures of the inside. And 12 minifigs plus the puppy and a few birds from what I've been able to see so far. The X-men Mansion I kind of like the building but care nothing about the minifigs. Pictured with the Modulars it does look rather small. If I ever find a great deal on it like maybe 1/2 off I might be tempted but there are plenty of other sets I'd much rather spend my money on. Quote
Yoggington Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I've always been a huge X-Men fan. I hate that it's so dinky - and not just the overall scale - every room is tiny on the inside too. And so expensive as well. That said, I will get this eventually. I will first spend a few months beefing it up in stud.io. before I go near it. Quote
Roebuck Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Looking at the minifigs in the botanical garden I assume Chris McVeigh is the designer and looks like he have moved to the Ideas theme now, so then it will be interesting to see who have designed the next modular. Quote
theremin Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 I also noticed that the minifig with the beard is undoubtedly Chris. The most likely guess is that the designer of the next modular is Anderson Grubb, who has made two of the last three. But I really hope it will be either Wes Talbott or Mike Psiaki. Wes's creations have elegance and an exceptional use of colour. His Bookshop has a lot of charm in my opinion. Mike is a true genius! He is the wizard of geometry in Lego and his Diner remains a unique piece in the modular collection. I also remember that in an interview it was mentioned that Mike designed a working elevator for modulars. In a residential building it could fit. Quote
Lion King Posted October 20, 2024 Posted October 20, 2024 Q2 But it might be two Just me thinking wishfully - I wish natural history museum would be a corner building so it could be a double-corner buidling. It’s the way we never saw before in thismodular building collection. More windows on side walls to let natural light in! It might not be 1.5bbseplates, it should be a full two-baseplate double-corner building! Quote

I agree with most of what you say, but my guess is that Wes and Mike are busy elsewhere, they probably made one each and moved on to other challenges. Anderson Grubb probably moved also, designers do not seem to linger more than 2-3 years in a theme before they are circulated. Have anyone except Jamie made more than one or two? My guess would be someone new or maybe Marcos Bessa finally get the chance, would be interesting to see what he could make Quote

That can't be correct. 2007 was the year I started dating my wife, while in university @22 years old. By that math, I would be 38, 39, which is no way possible! Something must be wrong in the mathematics world! ------------ The Botanical Garden is gorgeous, but way too expensive, as most of the pieces will for sure be 1x1 ou something like that. At 275€ would be a sweetpoint. It will go to my city, but when a proper discount is available. Edited October 21, 2024 by hugore Quote

PK82 Posted October 21, 2024 Posted October 21, 2024 (edited) Eww, the X-Men mansion really can't be placed next to any modular. I have an unused windowsill behind my city setup and a half baseplate spareroom due to Assembly Square. Might work to build a staircase/escalator on that half plate and put the mansion on the windowsill apart from all the bigger modulars. Facade and lawn look a bit lackluster so maybe I skip it. Need to see it IRL. Edited October 21, 2024 by PK82 Quote

Need to see it IRL. I am not a huge Marvel/DC fan, but am always interested in modular-compatible builds. In fact, I do own the 76218 Sanctum Sanctorum set, which looks good enough next to other Advanced/Creator/Icons Modular Buildings. But this, simply put, looks pitiful. And the price makes it even worse, regardless of piece count. It makes it very clear how poorly scaled this set is. I would be truly disappointed if I were an X-Men fan hoping to place it anywhere near a Modular Building. Quote
