Off the wall Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) I really hope nesquick is right about Town Hall coming back. I still need to get it and Pet Shop. I don't have the money for either right this minute (unless anyone's willing to trade for Grand Emporiums or Haunted Houses) but I really hope that TH winds up coming back because the aftermarket prices are already getting ridiculous, and I know that waiting is only going to make them worse... I was expecting Pet Shop and Town Hall to be available widely until at least next year, going by how long Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium were available. I know the latter was immensely popular simply because it was a fire station and had broader appeal outside of just an 'older' audience, but I really didn't think they'd phase out these other two this soon. Since they're currently sold out everywhere in the US (with the exception of PS being on backorder at S@H) I have to assume that they really are at end-of-life, unless Walmart, Target and other major retailers somehow receive an influx of more stock. I thought I had time. Here I was planning on bricklinking the first three modulars - I really hope I don't have to do a fourth. I guess the lesson here is to disregard the lifespan of previous modulars and not automatically assume they'll be around as long as Fire Brigade and Grand Emporium were. I think you'll have another shot at both PS and TH. Especially TH. If anyone discovers they missed out on GE, I have three full sets of the bags marked '1' along with new in the bag instruction books and base plates. Didn't need them when building the mega GE. Herky Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Hey, Herky, do you think a Nov 21 reveal would push the actual release date beyond January 1? Sounds like TLG has a ton of stuff hitting Jan 1, I wouldn't be surprised if they hold off on the Modular til a bit later 1st or 2nd quarter of the year, that stinks for us, but Lego is pretty hot right now and they are rolling in it, they can dictate their own calendar at this point. I personally feel there is a market for 2 modular a year, but that might be just me. Quote
mmcclelland Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Rather than two modulate a year, I think it would be good if they brought out one 'full' modular ie 32x32 a year, say in January, then in about July they had a 16x32 modular, essentially one half of the PS for £70-£80 instead of £120-£160. It would be a good way for the line to expand and allow people who can't necessarily afford to buy modular to be a part of the line. Quote
Capt. Redblade Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Ooh, I really hope the Town Hall is coming back. I completely dragged my heels and the thought of missing out on it so soon before my birthday (and so soon after I missed out on the Haunted House) really does sting. I'm not up to speed on what the general procedure is when a product comes back in stock like that. Does it usually last for a few hours? Days? Weeks? How fast would I need to act if it comes back? Quote
nesquik Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 (edited) I really hope nesquick is right about Town Hall coming back. I should point out that when the S@H website states a product is 'Sold Out', this has no direct relation to its lifespan; it simply indicates that there are no units available to be shipped at the present time. The cause of this however is two fold, as it can mean either the product is in a new production cycle or it has indeed been retired. In the Town Hall's case, I can assure you it is the former as it continues to be a popular product. A lot of silly rumours swirl these forums. I recall many panicking that the DeLorean Time Machine, Ecto-1 and Research Lab "were limited to just 10,000 products!1!!", with absolutely no sources or evidence to back the assumption up, despite the fact that the company uses smaller production cycles for Ideas sets anyway. Gongoro73 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 In Europe's Lego shop, TH and GE are still available. PS changed his status today as "Out of stock. Expected ship date: 22 oct". HH is listed as sold out. Quote

Grand Emporium is a good example - it has been "Sold Out" few times but kept coming back. @nesquik - kind sir, could you please share any details regarding detective agency with us? :> Quote

HH is listed as sold out. Hunted House returned in stock yesterday evening for an hour (and I was lucky enough to grab one) and then was out of stock again. So till a product is retired there is always a chance it returns in stock. Quote
glendo Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 The only reason for a delay i can think of is that they want to reduce the 5 modulars they have out now first. Maybe GE will have to retire first. Quote
rollermonkey Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Guess NicT was right, nothing about modular or anything, just a restatement of the Slave I that we have all seen since Saturday, why that FB page is rehashing the same info as the other FB sites have and calling it a reveal is beyond me, guess TLG doesn't have a dictionary handy to look up the word reveal. In any case, now hope that the Nov 21 will be the official modular reveal...that Slave I is a pretty big ship though, saw a video of it, nicely detailed and I would say if you are a SW fan, that is a must. It was the same thing with the LEGO Architecture FB page earlier this year... They milked out a big reveal for the Trevi set over several weeks, months after it had been released in Europe and anybody who would bother to actually follow that page already knew about it. Quote
ocifant Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Hunted House returned in stock yesterday evening for an hour (and I was lucky enough to grab one) and then was out of stock again. So till a product is retired there is always a chance it returns in stock. I'd guess this happens when a store returns unsold stock - my local store admitted to having 8 HH last week, although none were on display. I grabbed one at the weekend, and they had plenty left (I counted at least 4 on the display shelf). I'd assume as new stock models come in, if they need the shelf space then older models will be shipped back to the warehouse? Quote

pugmom Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 TH can be ordered again on US s@h, expected ship date 10/20..... I don't love the style, but am tempted to order so I don't regret it later. Quote

I don't love the style, but am tempted to order so I don't regret it later. I've always thought the proportions on TH were a little awkward. I think it looks a lot better if you expand it. I've added three extra windows on each floor on each side. It just looks better. Edited October 7, 2014 by Off the wall Quote
Faefrost Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 A lot of silly rumours swirl these forums. Actually it was mainly the Exo-Suit and Research Lab where people panicked. But it was not unsourced or simply assumed. It was based on rather clear comments from Mark Stafford. Plus the evidence that the Mars a Rover had only been made in 10,000 pieces and went almost exclusively it seemed to third party merchants. They did this last year too. They had a bunch of big stuff hitting right after Christmas in January. Remember that is when stores need a big restock as they have been mostly stripped in the Christmas rush. The PR came out In this January wave. Quote
craiggrannell Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 UK store now saying similar (Oct 30) for the previously sold-out Haunted House. If only I 150 quid to blow on Lego… Quote
Roger_Smith Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Bummer 'bout there being no announcement yesterday. I was really hoping for it. The german lego shop had all the older modulars listed as being readily available last time I checked. Right now, it seems to be down, though. Quote
Gongoro73 Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Bummer 'bout there being no announcement yesterday. I was really hoping for it. Yeah, me too. So, are we in the darkness again? No clues about a possible forthcoming announcement? Quote
Herky Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 Seems there is another exclusive announcement coming on Nov 21 Gongoro, we can only hope that is the modular reveal, just waiting at this point. Quote
LEGO Guy Bri Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 First thanks to those who helped answer my question below. A few days ago while preparing an order on LEGO.com I noticed the Town Hall was removed from my bag so I searched for it to find it's status on 'Sold Out' and was shock/ panicked because Toys R' Us/Walmart are 'Out of Online Stock' as well and eBay/Amazon sellers were getting/asking $280+. I promptly asked for any insight. Well today I saw that the Town Hall has been moved to 'Out of Stock/Expected to ship 8/20'. So while my initial worry of missing it has been quashed, it does seem like it my be on it's EOL. Speculation of course Does anybody know why the Town Hall was discontinued after 2 years? Low sales? I was very surprised and disappointed I didn't buy one sooner, now I'll take a loss on shipping Quote
VintageLegoEra Posted October 7, 2014 Posted October 7, 2014 so what happened to 2015 Modular announcement? Quote
