Am I being stupid? Haven't seen anyone else ask what the parts above the hero factory fists are.

I have no clue.

I don't see any unusual bricks above the row of these (this photo was posted a few pages back):

The only drawback was found by 'kevin8'.......no wall between the barber's and the staircase ? :look:

I need even more high res images now to see why they couldn't do better and if it can be modified with a wall.

Oops. I forgot Astrid designed the Town Hall. Has anyone had fleeting thoughts of 'shipping' Jamie and Astrid together and then wonder the type of Modular buildings they would make together?

She did, but the bat hanging upside down was actually in Fire Brigade's bell tower.

After seeing the higher resolution pics of the interior, I'm definately getting two sets to mod them into bigger buildings. I'm thinking 16 wide detective's office with separate staircase and two upper floors, and maybe a 24 wide barber with a wall between barber and stairs and an actual appartement upstairs.

That's a great idea.

I'm withholding some of my opinions regarding this set until I actaully build it. Like you, I know I will be building more than one of these.

And, my first impression is that while this is a very nice set, they've turned control of the Modulars over to someone who relates better to eight year olds than they do to AFOLs.

Will definitely buy multiple copies, i really enjoy the set, probably because I am a modular addict, liked it at first sight, not like PC for instance.. but you're right.. Looks like spiderman could "fly" around... It is not an exclusively adult destinated model like CC or GG were.

Looks like the modular line is going "story telling" instead of pure building fantasy.

Nevertheless I like it and will certainly enjoy it!

Or, they've started to let money talk so they want to entice both kids and adults; a big, versatile building for AFOLs, to be modded and enlarged at will, but also something that will keep kids interested and happy plus something their parents will hopefully find an attractive birthday or Christmas present for their kids.

If one compares this to TH, for instance, it offers kids nothing. A nice big building with a play value close to zero. TLG surely makes more money with DO; bought by the same AFOLs that got the TH, but also by numerous KFOLs

Personally, I like the bigger buildings. But nothing prevents me from from modding this one. Like I said earlier, the DO part is 16-wide, the central section + the barbershop likewise. To combine two sets allows for a 32-wide barbershop plus two separate 16-wide office buildings. For one of those, it's easy enough to change the colours to get some more variation.

Right now, I have two PS sets. One of the pet shops is sand blue, but the other one I changed to white with reddish brown windows. Looks neat enough and brings some variation. The brownstones remain as they are, and connected. I should get a third one to complete the rowhouse effect.

You can't have just one...

I also considered modding the Pet Shop into white with red-brown windows...interesting.

As far as the official set. I still don't love the color scheme, but the building design itself looks interesting enough. I'm unsure on how many kfols will be purchasing this or afols buying this for their kids...I mean, do kids normally get 150-160$ dollar sets for holidays?

For comparison, in 1995 the 6090 Royal Knight's Castle was $95. According to the internet (with necessary caveats), that's $147.89 in 2014 money. So a $150 or $160 modular seems a comparable "big present" for a kid who's old enough not to lose the pieces/get frustrated with the tiny details.

Stop this, you.

Now I'm imagining the Modular Love Story is about those two!

the more I look at it, it's the colors that are just driving me a bit nuts...wish they would have just continued the brick from the detective side all the way through, it is busy and seems cluttered, but in a big city downtown, that's what you get...still wondering if it will hit the $150 or $160 price point

Would it be somehow like the Ann Frank house located at Amsterdam where the entrance of the secret room is blocked by the wardrobe?

Wow a LOT of hypebeasts....

Not sure what lego is going for, too many things going on, detective office, pool, barber, baker boy on 3rd floor, and a small toilet all on its own floor.

Imho they should have concentrated with making the office, pool, and barber..... Perhaps bigger. Makes the toilet and kitchen an afterthought and ground floor shops half baked.

Only thing i like is that lego introduced new businesses, and not a modular representation of the common/recent city sets like pizza, bike, toy shops.

Only buying this for the sake of completing modulars and putting more modulars in my city. Otherwise im at the minority who find this underwhelming.

I'd like to see a dutch/amsterdam styled place next... a newer version of Market st perhaps. Instead of the Blue, dark browns and whites.

Just outstanding! Every detail jumps off the package. I really like the two in one styles of this and the Pet Shop compared to the monolithic sets like Town Hall and the Fire Brigade.

Roger, how would you do that.. do you build the 24 x 32 barber on a 16 x 32 baseplates with two 8x16 plates along?

And the barber shop has direct access to the stair? Wasn't impossible to make the building 1 brick wider to gain a wall between the stair and the barbershop? Maybe also place a door beetween the stairs and the alley?

This is not making me amused at all...

Yes, that does look weird, on both floors!

And, even without wanting to sacrificing a row of studs, they could have at least added a wall on the fourth stud of the stairs itself, without any floor space being lost...

I love the design of this set, and will definitely buy it.

I still have to get to grips with the colour combinations though, as do other people here. The atmosphere's a bit different than the other modulars. I've seen the "comic book" remark a few times. Sounds about right.
