I could swear that when they cleaned up their all over the place color spectrum, and retired a bunch of colors a few years back they put in place some sort of limitation on new colors. Something to prevent the pallet from getting out of control again?

Quite possible then to prevent rampant costs. Would be interesting to ask TLG what they do. I would love to go on their exclusive tours to find out everything

Its no secret: after LEGO almost went bankrupt after year 2000, one of steps undertaken by then new CEO Jorgen, was to limit number of different part and also colours. That worked very well (together with other undertaken measures it help TLG get out of red numbers injust few years) and they are sticking to it. I once discussed this with Jan Beyer from TLG and he said that(for example) in order to get all needed new colours for Friends theme, many less used colours were discontinued.

Their machines these days inject the color into he neutral plastic just before molding.

Are you sure about this? In a recent discussion with Mark Stafford about the difference of certain pieces of the same colour under UV light (some are fluorescent, some are not), he said this was due to certain batches of granulate of the same colours coming from different suppliers.

I know they have talked about their new color injecting system, and how it allows them to use neutral colored pellets and color them as needed. I think it came online about 5 years ago. I have no idea how extensive it is, or what exactly it is and is not used for?

Is anyone else hoping that this is another split pair of 16 x 32 buildings like the Pet Shop? I was looking at my display and realized that two 16 x 32's would fit in so much better. Plus I can see them doing a restaurant with a smaller footprint, and not needing the full 32x32 for the effect. So I was hoping we get more to it.

If it is a split building, i will consider to buy two of them.. I did the same with the Pet Shop, and for example, the two blue-halfs look great!!

Yes im thinking of a small truck maybe open back with vegetables in the back tray to be delivered to the restaurant. Has anyone who has seen or heard about the restaurant know if we will get a vehicle?........By the way is that henry crabs I see in that truck.

We just got a vehicle with the Palace cinema, and also typically a Parisian street is more busy with smaller vehicles such as bikes. So, I do doubt it for the most part.

I'd be more keen on seeing a trolley with this set if it does happen to include a vehicle.

Neogaf has been talking about a January release for the public and mid-Dec for VIPs. I'm still betting on a New Sand Red if the rumor of a new color becomes true, as red seems to be the only color without a muted (desaturated) tone in production.

Sand Red sounds nice as a 'new' addition to the colour palette, however I doubt it a bit. In my opinion, bright light yellow from Friends seems more logical. TLG made some bricks in that colour after a long time, and I'm guessing they have a plan to use them in other sets, not just for the school. And even if I'm wrong, a new muted colour would be welcome.

Hopefully, the new color will be geared towards the target market......AFOLs. That would mean, hopefully, no bright Friends colors. Hopefully.

Of course, and as just a side note and not to get off topic, I'm currently building the lego Eiffel Tower that I bought used. It's a monochromatic hell. So, at this point, any color in the modular series would be welcomed. Bright orange, pink, purple, whatever.....anything but dark gray! :-)

I'm going through some type of modular building withdrawal. Please get the Parisian cafe on the market ASAP. Thanks.

I here ya TomLego! I can't wait for the early images (C'mon GRogall get with it already!) and then a firmed up delivery date.

Yes, I'm bored. That's why tomorrow I'll be starting my second GE. Seriously, I probably need to find a job. This retirement is okay, but it does get boring. I need a new modular building about every two weeks to tell you the truth. I also ordered a retired Lego VW beetle new in the box. Maybe I'll paint the house. Or buy a puppy. Problem with English springer spaniel puppies is, well, they eat anything that falls on the floor. Back when my wife worked less that 70 hours a week and I hadn't discovered Lego, we used to do puzzles. Every time a piece fell on the floor, the puppy pounced on it an ate it. I wonder how a puppy would respond to Lego?

Eurotrash, thanks for your support. You obviously feel my pain.

Likewise. I hunt around the internet every few days looking for a leaked photo.

How is it possible? Why don't you MOC then? I dream of having a lot of time to be able to make all the MOCs I'm thinking about.

I have the bricks, I have the ideas, I just need the time for it. Retirement is too far away for me...

Personally, I would expect the Parisian Restaurant to be a significant upgrade from the original Café Corner. The product line has matured to such a degree that Jamie and the other designers will want to revisit earlier products, and essentially say to themselves "Okay - we understand the demand for these buildings, and have crossed paths with a nice selection of architectural styles from around the world. So how can we improve on them in todays climate?".

Afterall, let's not forget that the Café Corner really was testing the waters when it was released. It was first and foremost a showpiece purely for the architecture of the building, and therefore had an interior that was absent of detail or functionality. In fact, if you look at the back of the instructions, it suggests purchasing multiple products to essentially 'stack' the Cafés into your preferred scale. This proves just how naive the strategy was at the time, because it was geared almost entirely to AFOLs rather than a broader demographic. The building itself also made hints at being European, but the name of the product and the design never really confirms its place in time.

So it's easy to appreciate just why these buildings have improved in such a short term - there was the potential to make them appeal to a wider audience and to focus on individual design. Not only this, but because the designers have crossed paths with architecture from Europe and the U.S, and the various franchises to go with them, it's not hard to imagine each of these avenues being revisited in a different form.

With all this in mind, I'll predict the following (It's fun to make a game of it!)

- Outdoor seating will be retained, but only to a bare minimum. This won't be a corner building, so at the most I think there could be two tables and chairs, but no modern parasols as fabric canopies are more common.

- The architecture itself will have little in common with the Café Corner. The reason for this is because the designs have progressively focused more and more on mirroring the spirit of a particular franchise, and I honestly believe that this time around they will do a much better job at capturing the nature of a small French bistro (This is a more accurate term for the building, as 'restaurant' has been used purely for marketing reasons). Even the fact that they have called it Parisian Restaurant says to me that the design is more refined this time round.

- The rare Dark Blue components will be used - or more specifically, those that are currently in the Winter Village Market. This makes sense from a logistical point of view as I don't believe they would be produced purely for one Winter Village set. This colour is also common for late 19th/early 20th century buildings in France, and would go nicely with red bricks.

- There will be a waiter with the Series 9 wine bottle and tray.

- There won't be a wine cellar (again, for a small bistro this isn't faithful) but there could almost certainly be a wine rack behind the cash/order desk.

- The upstairs is intriguing... I highly doubt further seating will be added, so if this is to be a compact building, then it may just be a living space. A small area for making fresh food and preparing those delicious pastries can go on one side of the ground floor, while a couple of extra tables could go the other side.

So those are my predictions! Anyone else want to have theirs?
