TheLegoDr Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Sounds awesome. I knew there would be one eventually. I would really hope for dark green, or if the winter village set is Dark green. That would make my day!
jonwil Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I can say for sure there will not be anything that specifically relates to alcohol, LEGO has said in the past they dont put alcohol in a modern context in their sets (hence why things like the inn in the Medieval Market Village was ok) I doubt they would include a wine cellar or a bar area for that reason. But it might include bottles and glasses (like in the CMF Waiter and other sets, they can come up with a non-alcoholic explanation for those) Either way, the idea sounds cool and if the parts selection and colors are right, it might make it the first modular worth buying for me since the Grand Emporium.
LegoSjaak Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Well, cheers, that is nice.. i like food, i like Lego, so this must be the best combination..;-) Ik hope our picture-source Grogall comes up with pictures soon.. I'll keep a gap in my modular and city-layout-redesign the coming months....!! Greetz, LegoSjaak
timmyc1983 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 (edited) Excellent, a restaurant like a cafe, a city can never have too many restaurants so this is really exciting!!! I can't wait for some pics and I can't wait for a release date. March seems soooo long away tho Thanks Grograll, I look forward to your next tip off! Edited July 11, 2013 by timmyc1983
Hobbythom Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Well, if it looks even half as good as that wonderfull Parisean building that was on here a few months ago It will be great. Recently bought my first modular and I am Hooked! Can't wait!
GRogall Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 This is not fact, so don't put much into this! But in the LEGO movie poster on the bottom left there is a very detailed building which is partially under construction! this could very well give us a small first glimpse at the building!? so lets see how this turns out?
Takezo Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 But in the LEGO movie poster on the bottom left there is a very detailed building which is partially under construction! so lets see how this turns out? Interesting! And what about the oriental building on the right?!?......
seba123 Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Thanks GRogall for this wonderful news! I did hope for a more European inspired modular building. Even more wonderful that it is a restaurant, firstly my minifigis will finally have a "posh" place to dine and my abundance of CMF waiters will have a challenging job! Looking forward to more info!
sgeureka Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I didn't expect any info so soon, yippie. I expect baguettes (4342), bottles (95228) and goblets (33061), and possibly the CMF artist's hat (90386). It's great that they specifically named it a French restaurant. When that one gets retired in a few years down the road, TLG can still release e.g. an Italian restaurant (pizza tile, mediterranean style) so that the newbie modular collectors can also give their townies something to eat. BTW, I dug up Jamie's quote about a possible restaurant. He was asked about the next modular in April 2012, and he answered "We [the Lego group] have lots of secrets that we have to keep. Don't tell anyone this secret, but I'm not a very good cook." The original link (now offline) was at http://messageboards.lego.com/en-us/showpost.aspx?PageIndex=1&PostID=5318515
lightningtiger Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Gee, wouldn't it be nice if was a wine bar !
kermit Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Are there any pics of this type of restaurant in France that we can use as a reference.
cei Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Lots of places in Paris look like this. Lots of outdoor seating under awnings, and absolutely packed at feeding times! Building is typical Parisian, with the light stone, small balconies and the blue road name plate. Waiters dressed for the occasion, which lends a more formal element.

I'm thinking that to ensure that the cost is in the US$150 range that we may see a more modest design (and I don't have a problem with that). Here's the kind of thing that I think we may see:
vean Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 The most interesting design to build a parisian restaurant should be a "brasserie" of the 19th century like LIPP http://www.groupe-bertrand.com/lipp.php The most famous restaurants of Paris do not have a interesting design: see "la tour d'argent" for example https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/aa/Tour_d'argent.JPG/280px-Tour_d'argent.JPG or "le Jules Verne" http://www.danhagerman.com/images/Jules%20Verne%20Restaurant.jpg. We will see.
Holodoc Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Thanks for the info, Grogall! This keeps the cinema in my head going... Cafe corner round rwo to mark the start if the next block? I sincerely doubt it will be a corner building again after the cinema. Interesting! And what about the oriental building on the right?!?...... ... hardly Parisian.
The Jersey Brick Guy Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 I can't wait for this one. Hopefully it allows the user to be able to easily switch from a Parisian to an Italian or American or whatever.
GRogall Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 Some how I think maybe LEGO has this in mind!? But don't ask me why?
just2good Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Some how I think maybe LEGO has this in mind!? {pic} But don't ask me why? Love the idea! LEGO should make Pixar Modular sets.
eurotrash Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Some how I think maybe LEGO has this in mind!? /.../ But don't ask me why? I kinda hope not - it'd be a huge building, with a high piece count and - unfortunately - a equally large price tag.
ResIpsaLoquitur Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 These things tend to be outside my budget, but I'll bite. This set needs a vespa with a basket, with one of those loaf-of-bread accessories in it. And a rerelease of the CMF Mime figure.
The Jersey Brick Guy Posted July 11, 2013 Posted July 11, 2013 Some how I think maybe LEGO has this in mind!? -snip- But don't ask me why? That would be awesome.
GRogall Posted July 11, 2013 Author Posted July 11, 2013 That would be awesome. Please don't include pictures in your quotes!
Faefrost Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 (edited) Some how I think maybe LEGO has this in mind!? But don't ask me why? LOL! I was thinking the same thing. You know the set will come with a couple of rats. I kinda hope not - it'd be a huge building, with a high piece count and - unfortunately - a equally large price tag. It wouldn't be too bad if they knock a floor off of it. Also assuming that it is a front facing only and not a freestanding or corner building. I would not be surprised if that is pretty close to the type of roof we see. I'm also going to predict that the top floor will house an artists studio of some sort. Edited July 12, 2013 by Faefrost
