I had a quick idea how to solve my problems with a RC TECHNIC Tank project, as some of you might remember, I was working on a tank project a while back, but unfortunately I could not work on it anymore until now. So restarting it and buying new sets soon to get my ideas further.

  • 180 degree turret spin
  • Track suspension + XL motor for each track
  • Lights for front and rear sides!
  • Powered barrel up/down
  • Barrel recoil system

The last in that list is what I now made a quick LDRAW model for, so I could later check out if it indeed would work etc. Yes I know, the gearbox part is probably no good, but it's just to show a rough idea how to get this barrel system working. Later on ill be testing this in real life and see if it indeed will work as planned. It will however be a test without servo since I do not have one but with medium motor instead. Photo's and updates will be posted of course!

Set I still need to buy to make my project work: 42006, 8879, 8293, 9398. With a little luck this weekend, other wise ill be saving up until I can buy them.

Have a suggestion? Please do post! Can always use the help! Comments are also ofcourse welcomed!

One suggestion I would make is to not buy all the sets unless you want all the extra parts, you can just use bricklink for the motors and stuff you want. Also you might as well use an m-motor because you could always just press the button for it quickly for single fire and then hold it down for rapid fire. Also you probably shouldn't use knob gears for the drive, bevel gears are much smoother and can also give some gear reduction so it can have more torque.

Edit: Hey I forgot the release date for the l-motor and servo motor on s@h is in only 23 minutes! I'll check on it very soon.

The sets I would need anyways to gain more parts, I do not have that much TECHNIC LEGO currently so it would be still a nice addition and more breathing space for making models. Bricklink I can not buy from because of some personal financial problems, I have a heavy form of autism and felt it would be saver to let others take care of my financial stuff. Disadvantage is that I won't be allowed to buy things online unless I can use a pre-paid card. So Bricklink is unfortunately offlimits for me at this time.

The gears used were just to get a quick picture of what the idea should be, actually did not even think out the gearbox part of this system. It was already 5AM and did not sleep yet, so it will be worked out more for sure :classic:

Thought large motors were already released in set 9398, the 4X4 Crawler. It should have 2 of those.

I did something like that a few years ago. Be advised, it makes the gun's barrel really wobbly:

I seen the videos and pictures on that tank! It was one of the inspirations to do something similar indeed! So thank you for that! I will however be using a different suspension set which has a real springs attached. For the gun, I think ill be going with a pretty short barrel making it more stable in general. But I was indeed trying to take that wobble part out as much as I could. A alternate turret system would have been like the Gepard or double gattling guns like the Gattling tank from Red Alert 2: Yuri's Revenge

Also I been hearing someone mention the current system might be to wide for a turret, this would be no problem I suspect since the German WW2 Panzer II had also a offset turret. With pretty much rapid fire aswell. Luckaly I will not attempt to create a real tank like you which gives me space to change things as I go along. First part of the project is mainly thinking up solutions that I can create with the current bricks that I do have. Which also answers (again) TwentyLeggedHen's question, I simply need more sets to gain more bricks and specially the engine parts. Currently I own 2 XL-motors & 4 M-motors, I still need the L-motors and servo's. Luckaly I just got a e-mail that my request for 300 euro is on it's way, so I will be able to buy ALL sets mentioned!

This is an interesting project, I will definitely be following it!

I agree with your opinion on buying sets instead of bricklink, after-all, what's wrong with having more parts? So I too buy sets, rather than individual pieces. :classic:

Ending up with parts you don't need and you don't have space to store?

But when you have a relatively small collection, a good amount of beams and pins is always useful for making MOC's

Space to store it is available, I'm living on my own, no wife that complains about the LEGO purchases or not getting enough attention etc. so thats a big plus I guess

Got big storage boxes for large parts, sorting boxes for smal parts and even all minifigs are sorted on theme.

More parts is always a welcome thing, you usually run out of a specific brick or just find yourself missing the brick in your collection. So it is always good to update and buy sets.

NEWS: Requested my money yesterday and it is already on my bank account, so ill be buying the required sets as planned tomorrow!

I'm very interested in this! Good luck

I was making a system that recoils the main gun, and also provides a "movement" by dropping a kind of hammer inside the body of my Patria. This makes the whole vehicle shake. :D

The problem I have is when the turret turns, it will "effect" the recoil of the gun. :(
