ZCerberus Posted March 8, 2007 Author Posted March 8, 2007 So when I made Fort Brighton (no link?) I did a walking tour of the harbor. I don't really feel that is necessary for this ship because it is much smaller than the Fort. I do think maybe I could point out some details since they can sometimes be drown in the wholeness of the ship... can't see the trees because of the forest type of deal. I will post thumbs with links to the larger images when I can, and I shall try to give credit where due if I borrowed the ideas from others! I will also reference enhancements from the prior version of the Arbiter II, so if you haven't seen the in progress thread, check that one out too!! I will try to post the thumbs of the old and new were appropriate next to one another. The first thing I have discovered is that I work much better when I first design in MLCAD. I think maybe that is because I need not hunt for pieces, I can make it look good without giving up on finding a piece! So the first thing I like is the MLCAD design. Second thing I like are the sails. For the original version I had done some thinking on how to construct the midsection, but after that I just built on the fly. The results were mixed. The other constraint was that I was out of sail material, so I just reused some sails from another vessel. After I had time to rethink them, I came up with a sail plan that was much better, made from a stiff canvas that really works well for LEGO Quote
exo attack Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 Now with the comparison pics, I can see a big difference between the old and new arbiter II's. That is quite a big crew you have there as well, and the fleet of them is very impressive as well. I have two things to ask though. Is that compass an official piece? I have never seen it before, and is the bell a fabuland bucket? Anyway, congrats on the completion of this marvellous ship! Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted March 8, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted March 8, 2007 I like the lifting-arm you see in this picture. I was just thinking of making one myself, and this is a great inspiration. Isn't it a problem that the long boat is in font of the windows of the cabin. Well , as long as the captain doesn't complain ;-) . Quote
ZCerberus Posted March 8, 2007 Author Posted March 8, 2007 I have two things to ask though. Is that compass an official piece? I have never seen it before, and is the bell a fabuland bucket? 1) Yes. the compass came on with the series that included the SES and the Imperial Flagship, and as far as I know it continued on the ships after that. That would mean you could also fin it on the Renegade Runner, Armada Flagship, and Redbeard Runner. I bet you can also find it on a few Belville sets from the same era. There was also a more modern looking compass (the rotating compass disc inside has a fleur de lis pictured on it) used in the first Aquaraiders line, but it doesn't look quite the same! 2) Yes, it is either a fabuland or Belville bucket. I think they were actually in the Belville sets, not Fabuland, but they could have been in both! Anyhow. that is the piece you are thinking of almost for sure! Quote
ZCerberus Posted March 8, 2007 Author Posted March 8, 2007 I like the lifting-arm you see in this picture. I was just thinking of making one myself, and this is a great inspiration. I was going to say that is how Lego ® constructed them, but now I see that they only did it this way on the Imperial Trading post, which I never even owned, so maybe I just came to the same build version as they did inadvertently since this method was not used on the ships at all. Isn't it a problem that the long boat is in font of the windows of the cabin. Well , as long as the captain doesn't complain ;-) . Ahh yes. Well I debated having it come up higher, but then it would block the name plate, plus I figured the Captain already has both sides with windows that he can look out. Neither is ideal, but of the two I choose to block the windows Ultimately, I can explain my choice with the words of Jack Aubrey from Mast and Commander "There! [boney], I have you!... Do you not know that in the service, one must always choose the lesser of two weevils?" Quote
ZCerberus Posted May 28, 2007 Author Posted May 28, 2007 This may seem a little weird since this thread has been idle for a while, but I retook some pictures of some of my ships for a special project I hope to be undertaking soon. As part of the project, I am trying to hone my photoshop type skills. Here is my first attempt, so I thought I would share it. It isn't exactly perfect, but I was doing on my brothers computer and he was trying to go to bed, so I stopped when it was decent! Too bad I won't have Bryce at home :'-( Quote
Scouty Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 That's good for a first attempt! Did you use a Magic Wand? Also, I like how all your ships in your fleet have the same color scheme. Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted May 28, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted May 28, 2007 Certainly not bad. Only the part where the ships touches the sea is a bit artificial. I've added some waves :-D Too bad I won't have Bryce at home :'-( What is Bryce? Quote
Norrington Posted May 28, 2007 Posted May 28, 2007 What is Bryce? I may be wrong, but I beleive it's a first name (In America) It's also a photo-editing program where you can make 3d back rounds. Quote

Big Cam Posted May 9, 2011 Posted May 9, 2011 Truly stuning! The sails are awesome and the boat itself is a masterpiece! Well done Welcome to Eurobricks, I appreciate your enthusiasm on this MOC, but please refrain from bumping an old thread just to say "good job". More than likely this MOC is no longer together since this thread is 4 years old. If you have something to contribute to the thread in the form of a question about the MOC our processes involved with building it, those are considered more acceptable reasons for posting in an old topic. Even then 4 years is a long time and sometimes the member is no longer active, thats not the case here but often it is. Thank you Quote
ZCerberus Posted May 9, 2011 Author Posted May 9, 2011 Yeah, but I may SEEM inactive! I was surprised to see this thread pop-up. I have grown a lot in the years since this MOC was done. I would recommend looking at the Phantom II thread to see where the ship building has gone since this ship was done. But since I came out of hiding to make a post here... I will be posting a new house for Port Brighton soon. My wife is trying to find us a nice house to move into so progress on large mocs has ground to a halt (that means you version III of the Phantom! ...) Quote
