Mr. Elijah Timms Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 As of March when that Spidey-Copter set, I'll no longer be a Marvel SuperHeroes completist. No way I'm wasting my hard-earned money on that joke. Love the Cap set, and I'll prob. get the Hulk lab for he Taskmaster alone. Quote
DJ Bricks Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I don't know what the purpose of the Hulk lab is, but I might blend it in with my Batcave... From an earlier deacription, it's meant to be an A.I.M. lab. I would have liked a beehive keeper, make it feel more A.I.M.y Quote
gedren_y Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 (edited) How far back is the USM tv show from the comics? I don't get the show here. Just looked at the Marvel wiki the Power Man in that costume might not be Luke Cage (originally Carl Lucas), but Victor Hernan Alvarez. He's the son of an enemy of Luke Cage, a hero that often works with Iron Fist. Oh, BTW, there was another Power Man (the first), but he changed his moniker a couple of times, eventually settling on Atlas. He actually lost a fight to Luke Cage over the Power Man name. If Lego is doing the Ultimates version, maybe we'll get the Miles Morales Spiderman. Black costume with red webbing and white eyes. I wonder how they would do his venom blast. I have the 2012 Miles Morales takeover hardcover edition in front of me. The Scorpion in this book would be awesome, with all his tats. The Ringer or the Ultimate universe Omega Red could work too. All this is speculation, though. Edited December 8, 2013 by gedren_y Quote
wesker Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Problem: Spiderwoman was an Comic Con exclusive. Isn't there a license to those that keep them from being in a set? I agree with you on your female character choices, and I'd add She-Hulk, Wasp, Invisible Woman, Psylocke and Jubilee, even though a couple of those have been made purist. There shouldn't be anything stopping her from appearing in a set. Azog was an exclusive at this year's Comic Con yet the exact same figure is now available in the Dol Guldor Battle set. Then there's the Dark Knight Trilogy Batman in the Bat vs Tumbler set - different colours from the Comic Con version, but both minifigures based on the exact same costume. 'votvik' has listed the HYDRA Agent on eBay, too. Thanks for the clearer picture. The HYDRA Agent looks awesome. I think I might pick up a couple of these guys. Doc Ock! The single pane funny thread will be filled next year with all of these figs, I can think of 3 already! But does anyone know if we're getting a second DC wave? I'v asked before but I'm eager to know, because All About Bricks had info on a second marvel wave, I just feel like the fact that they didn't post anything for DC means we won't get anything. And I really don't want to wait till 2015 for the mere possibility of a Black Canary. No one knows if we're getting more DC sets. All we have is a rumour Green Lantern is coming next year. Nothing's been said about the number of Marvel sets either. For all we know there could be another 8 sets in lined up for the second half of the year. We should hopefully hear more by the end of the month. Thats usually the time when the set names for the Summer wave get leaked for most themes. Quote

Sorry I'm getting off topic now I'd say we'll see a few girls in the next marvel wave! There's bound to be at least one! My money is on storm or jean grey. And Mary Jane is the one who wants to be a journalist not Petey. Nova, Power Man, Iron Fist, and White Tiger are all working for S.H.I.E.L.D. with spidey. BrickG Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 (edited) I hate that Electro. Doc Oc is an upgrade but seriously, I don't need more Spidermans and Cops. Really wish the Green Goblin was a normal minifigure and not based on the terrible cartoon. Thor still doesn't have a helmet. :P Not to mention the universally terrible builds... Repeter Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 The good: Avengers sets...MODOK, Falcon, Taskmaster, Hydra Agent, Red Skull, classic versions of Cap and Thor makes for a great line-up of must haves. The builds aren't super horrible, and at least usable. In fact, I'll be getting two of the Cap/Skull set for the figs and will try a MOC or two out for some morw Hydra vehicles. The bad: Spiderman sets. Ugh. That helicopter "rescue" ser has exactly one brick I want, which is MJs super-cute hoodie. The rest is easily made through purist means (MJ and Luke Cage), redundant (same costume again, Spidey?) or just just plain fugly (the green goblin looks like my cat's hairball, which is mostly on USM, not LEGO). The trike is forgivable, I guess, but I'm not too sure about that Electro. At least the Doc Ock set is a bit more of a value. Sure, it comes with the same ole Spidey, but a "heist" worthy vehicle and a guard are always useful and the Doc looks great. The ugly: Seriously, that Green Gobbo is horrendous. Here are some more things that come to mind when I look at it: Ear wax, LotRs monster, 90s Gargoyles cartoon (which was actually pretty cool and would look sweet in brick), a pile of boogers, Grinch-on-roids... Pulp Detective Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 All About Bricks said we were, and they're always reliable. I hope you're right,it's shame if we get only 5 marvel sets this year. Quote
J.V.D. Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 (edited) It seems Lego is realy aware of the fact that most people buy these SH sets just for the minifigs... so why still make an effort designing a decent set? Just throw some bricks together with a handfull of desired minigigures.. If there ever was a good argument for having a superheroes minifigs line, in blind bags or not, then it is this wave of 2014 sets... Bricklink, here I come... I might eventually get the Cap - Hydra set; the tank is rather , but I like all the figs in it, don't have a cap yet and those olive color pieces are welcome. So buying the set will be more economically then BL-ing it.. An as others mentioned before.. lets hope for a way to get some more Hydra soldiers. Just one serving as a stand in for a complete army seems a bit poor. Allow me a moment to dream about a "Hydra battlepack".. including 3 of those goons and, why not? Viper/ Madame Hydra Another maybe is the Hulk lab smash.. depending on its price. Again a poor build, but the 2012 Hulk figure goes for about half the price of the Helicarrier Breakout set it was in, so.. anyay, despite being to expensive for what it was, 6868 looked better than this new one. Should have bought it back in 2012... Edited December 8, 2013 by J.V.D. Quote

Cammo Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 (edited) Looks like Thor hasn't got a beard in the new set. Error? (Not really familiar with the alternate versions of the character) Edited December 8, 2013 by Cammo Quote
CF Mitch Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Cammo: Thor doesn't have a beard in the original comic version, which this minifig seems to be based on As is the case with the Hulk, noticable by the purple pants Thanks for the picture, BrickG! Of these sets, I'll be buying the Hulk Lab Smash, Captain America vs. Hydra, and the Dock Ock Truck Heist. They have some really cool looking figures (MODOK is a slight disappointment, though..) agoodfella77 Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I hate to say it, but it seems like there are a bunch of people giving each other high fives in the marketing department at LEGO who know its really the minifigures that moves the merchandise. It's no excuse to make a crappy set, but, let's face it, a lot of people are going to overlook this and go for the minifigs. But here is the warning shot -- if you continue exploiting your customers, there is a point where you start losing them... Quote
phanstasm Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 As much as I wanted the classic costume, I love the translucent arms and head on Electro! Now, why couldn't Lego have done that for the Necromancer of Dol Guldur in 79014? I'll be picking up the Hulk Lab Smash and Electro sets. The former has a great assortment of new characters (Taskmaster, with a white hood for Galadriel or Princess Leia!), and the latter is a good low-cost way to get a ton of lightning elements and translucent minifigure arms (Ringwraith ghosts, here I come!). I wonder why the Hulk Lab set uses that giant, plain 1x6 blue wall element. Not even a sticker to make it more interesting? I think I'll swap that out for a bunch of Erling bricks, and put some printed computers, dials, and levers there instead to jazz up the wall. Quote
gedren_y Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 The Guardians of the Galaxy movie is slated for an August 2014 release. I'm a little upset that is has the current cast of characters, as only Yondu is the only one from the the original cast. Hopefully Lego will take advantage of this, and next summer there will be a few awesome figs. Quote

While I agree that is a lot of the strategy at play I disagree that it's Lego doing it. Marvel at the end of the day is pulling the strings, they set the guidelines for Lego. They control everything, they tell Lego exactly what they can put in a set or not. And Lego did try, all of these builds aren't that particularly bad, the problem I think sits elsewhere with the design. The colors are obscene in these sets. That helicopter would be great if it wasn't obnoxiously colored. The same with the lab. Blue, Gray, black and yellow? They colored it Thor's colors. Those two sets would have looked great if they were colored differently. At the end of the day it's Marvel in control and they don't really have that great of a handle on any of their merchandising. Granted with the trike that was sort of an impossible mission to begin with. I've seen that vehicle used in other Marvel products, so that gem is their doing. The spider-helicopter I can understand from the perspective that Spider-man at times may need to leave Manhattan. The Trike on the other hand has no practical use, especially on the jammed streets of New York. Honestly though there isn't much Lego could have done to pretty up that little monstrosity, its hard to make a good looking vehicle of that size without it looking a bit messed up. Quote

Faefrost Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 I completely agree, even Gwen Stacy would be accepted, which would be weird since we're already getting Mary Jane. I sorta wish they'd give us more iconic locations in this theme rather than the occasional car that never even existed in the first place. I'm glad to get a new Doc Ock, but how many people were crying out for a bank truck? It's bad enough Lego does these same type of cars every 1-2 years in Lego City, but now they're coming into the superheroes theme? I don't think I saw any demand for a bank truck, but compare that to the amount of people asking for a Fantasticar.... Anyways I'm, overall pleased with the minifig selection, more females would be nice, but I assume (emphasize the assume) that we will get a least 1 female figure in the X-Men set(s). I'm sure we won't get Gamora for GOTG as they are already making 8+ sets and if they do make a GOTG set, I'm sure it'll be small and stick to the males. I'm loving that cap set, I mean Red Skull! There's no way they could have disappointed me with Electro, so that's good. Great minifig selection on the Hulk set, and the build is alright, looking forward to that. And as for the spidey-copter, better than the prelims, but that's not saying much. Here's to hoping Storm shows up eventually, and not as one of those darn SDCC exclusives! They've been recycling city vehicles in Superheroes for years now. Mainly in Batman. Two face originally drove one. Spider-Man had an Ambulance etc. Classic Gamora is a fairly easy MOC in the event they don't make her. Take the Oola fig from Jabba's palace. Replace the head tentacles with black hair and give her the PoP dagger. The only things missing are the eye makeup and a small skull on her belt. The truly heartbreaking thing with major Marvel female characters is they have given us Spider Woman and Pheonix... As damned SDCC exclusives! Quote

One things for sure, if I don't see Gambit and Archangel the way they look in the game I'll be very disappointed. Most likely we'll just wind up with Storm, Jean Grey, Cyclops, Professor X, and a Wolverine with his cowl, probably going up against Mystique or a Sentinel. The actual build will probably be the X Mansion, a Sentinel, or the Blackbird/X-Jet. Can someone explain to me why they keep making the tesseract a trans-clear brick instead of a trans-blue brick? It's clearly blue in the movies..Laziness! I doubt it's movie-based. It's more likely that the tesseract is clear instead of blue in the Avengers Assemble cartoon. Quote
