GandalfofHoth Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Wow, I really like electro, I am not a Marvel fan so I think I will buy that set so I can get spider man too. I still don't see the point of spider vehicles, he a web "slinger" for a reason, he can stick to wall for a reason, why does he need vehicles? Also I can't wait to get my hands on the flash and The Penguin Face-off, I mean a battle pack that (if it's the usual 13 dollars) meets the 10 cents per piece ratio! Quote
Sam892 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Wow Electro looks great, I'm glad they went with the Ultimate look. He looks like one of 2014s best minifigures. Quote
greeny Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I'm a DC guy but even I have to say those Marvel sets look great! I have no idea why Spiderman needs all those vehicles though I might pick up the set with Electro or the Doc Ock set so I can have Spiderman in my collection! The Captain America set is pretty good as well. Quote
Sam892 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 I still don't see the point of spider vehicles, he a web "slinger" for a reason, he can stick to wall for a reason, why does he need vehicles? Well Batman has both a grappling hook and Cape he can glide with, yet he still has tons of vehicles. I'm guessing it's so Spider-man can get around New York faster. While Spider- man doesn't need them kids will most likely love playing with them. When you look at most of the Superhero sets you can ask if they truly need the vehicle, Extremis boat, Bat copter, a Second Bat mobile, Second bat plane, Nightwing glider, second Bat bike, ect. Quote
montgocloud Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 (edited) I swear in 2014 Lego is going exclusively kiddie and are starting to hate collectors. Star Wars and Marvel just got kiddiefied IMO. Marvel and DC were both kiddiefied last year. Mandarin's buggy? The Spider Bike? The Daily Bugle Showdown? Black Zero Escape? The BAT and Bane's Tumbler? I loved most of those sets once I actually bought them and I'm sure it'll be the exact same with 2014 Marvel and DC. With Star Wars, the builds are nearly identical in quality with 2013 LEGO Star Wars, minus the addition of new shooting blasters and the lack of OT sets besides the Death Star Troopers and some of the Microfighters. I imagine that the new spring-loaded shooters will replace the flick-fires soon which in my book is an improvement! That's less kiddiefied! A lot of LEGO Star Wars 2014 mainly doesn't interest me because it's all focused around the PT. But I imagine that Marvel/DC Superheroes will be very consistent with last year's quality, only more diverse which isn't a bad thing at all. But while bat vehicles are a staple of the Batman character, spider vehicles are not a staple of the Spider-Man character. Spider-Man is a teenager in both the Ultimate comics and TV series and can't afford bikes, trikes, and helicopters. Even when he's an adult you never see him in vehicles; it's just not in his character. An Extremis boat can double as an AIM boat since Extremis is made by AIM in both Iron Man 3 and the comics. The second variations of bat vehicles are unnecessary though, especially that plane! I mean there's nothing practical about that thing! What IS it? I'm fine with the Bat copter and the Nightwing glider though since we haven't seen a copter in DC Superheroes and Nightwing is a Bat family character and thus funded by Wayne. He also needs a glider because he can't fly or spin webs. The second Batmobile is good, though I wouldn't want to see one if I had the option. It's nicely designed and distinct enough from the other variation. The more apt comparison would be Batman vehicles and Iron Man vehicles. Both can afford it, but would it be right to have an Iron Man Mobile? Or an Iron Man Copter? No, it would be stupid. He has powers and him having a helicopter would be redundant just like Spider-Man having a helicopter is redundant. But if all the spider vehicles were all colored blue and had the SHIELD logo, I would feel much differently. SHIELD has vehicles; it's in their character. That's the big word here: character. The reason it's not right for Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, or Superman in a vehicle is because they weren't written to have one, and the reason they weren't written to have one is because they have no need for one. But I'm sure the kids will eat the spider vehicles up. Sigh... If only they were colored blue. Edited December 16, 2013 by montyofmusic Quote

So he's certainly not above having vehicles, he just has them rarely. Edited December 16, 2013 by strangely Quote
gedren_y Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Iron Man in the comics has used large military planes as launching points/suit storage when out of the country. He even had a space shuttle at one point. I wish we had gotten a set based on the convoy ambush scene from the first movie, but there are some places Lego won't go. Quote

More so the Ultimate Spider-Man TV show for creating worthless vehicles purely for marketing (hey, like in the comic!). And I know this is another version of Peter Parker, but in the 616 comic Spider-Man's first reaction to the Spider Mobile was: "Now that's what I call a fiasco," which makes me think that he is kind of above using them. He certainly would be in the Ultimate comics! But again, this is the Ultimate TV series, which is far different. This is a TV show problem and not a LEGO problem. On a different note, that comic of Amazing Spider-Man scarily mirrors real life! A company creates a nonsensical vehicle for marketing purposes (Marvel) and Spider-Man's reaction is utter disbelief (us). Iron Man in the comics has used large military planes as launching points/suit storage when out of the country. He even had a space shuttle at one point. Yeah but that makes a bit more sense than Spider-Man. He's not just flying around in an empty helicopter, he's carrying a bunch of suits for whatever battle he might face. Spider-Man doesn't have a bunch of different suits. Spider-Man isn't rich. Spider-Man doesn't need a helicopter. I think I'm getting extremely off topic though so I'm going to stop Edited December 17, 2013 by montyofmusic Quote

This is the point I was trying to make, Spider Man isn't known for his vehicles, would batman be the same with out the batmobile or batwing, most people would say not. The spider man I grew up with didn't use vehicles, if he had the spider copter, would vulture be such a problem, I think not. I know these sets will be a big hit for kids, I was just saying they don't need to do all these spidey vehicle sets, I wish they would focus more on groups like the FF and X-men, (I'm personally not a fan of GotG so I could pass on those) I think we've had enough spider man to last us a few year IMO. SoupOrFishOil Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Electro still looks great. I might actually get an extra. Ugh, I like that Captain America figure too much. Guess I will be getting the Hydra set after all. Good thing it is $20 and not $30.... Quote
Kaijumeister Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) The Spider-Copter is indeed a S.H.I.E.L.D vehicle, there's a S.H.I.E.L.D. sticker visible behind the fuselage. I also have an inkling that the upper-cockpit has a trap door, you can see Spider-Man's webbing attached to the inside of the cockpit, and it makes sense as a suitable play-feature for having Spidey swing out from the copter. In my opinion it's a shame that Lego is taking the "unnecessary bunch of vehicles for a hero who doesn't need them" route, it's a pain seeing Hasbro producing so many ridiculous vehicles for Spider-Man (and Iron Man!), and is something I never thought LEGO would do, but all the same these are for kids, though maybe too much so this time round. The Trike set looks good only for Electro, it's great having Lego use the translucent arms outside of Jek-14 finally, Definitely a set I will pick up. The Captain America vs HYDRA set also looks great, and I'm loving the minifigures. All in all though, a pretty disappointing first half of 2014 for the Superheroes line (though the minifigures are wonderfully done, as expected), here's hoping that the X-Men sets will be of a higher standard, and movie-version GotG sets sound promising, though I must say I'm not expecting much! Maybe TLG will kick it up a notch for the Age of Ultron and Batman vs Superman films. Edited December 17, 2013 by Kaijumeister Quote

Freddy Bricker Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Well what do you know, Flash doesn't get leg printing. I don't know why I decided never to accept that. Also, don't we usually have rumors of the 2014 summer wave by now? I'm new to keeping up with these type of things, but I read that by now, we should. I can be patient, though it'd be nice to know. Suspsy Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) Here are good quality images of the Hydra tank set minifigures http://www.brickhero...i-les-minifigs/ As you can clearly see captain america is of a new variation and his shield is normal red instead of the dark red version as seen in the avengers set which IMO looks much better. The other two minifigures are also looking fantastic. That Captain America looks fantastic. I'm looking forward to owning two sets of Avengers: one from the movie, one from the classic comics. I wouldn't even mind another Iron Man if they did him in Mk III armour like this: http://static3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20051021013060/marveldatabase/images/2/26/Iron_Man_Armor_MK_III.jpg Edited December 17, 2013 by Suspsy Quote

In the game it explains this. Tony Stark arrives on a submarine as Iron Man and sees Spidey already there. The dialogue is vaguely something like this. Stark: Let me guess, you got here on a really long Spider-line. Spidey: Actually no, you're not the only one with fancy gadgets. -gestures at plane- Nick Fury hooked me up with one of these. Quote
Suspsy Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I don't care for the Spider-Man vehicles either, but I understand their purpose. Lego needs to keep their primary target(children) in mind when designing sets and a funky helicopter in primary colours is going to go over better than say, a rooftop setting or Peter Parker's dingy apartment. As others have noted, there are many existing Marvel vehicles that would make good sets: the Fantasti-Car, the X-Jet, various SHIELD and HYDRA craft, etc. I'm surprised there hasn't been a Sentinel or a Spider Slayer set yet. HawkLord Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I'm very glad I didn't get the Avengers set with the large Hulk now... Granted, I'm sure the one with MODOK will be more expensive, I think the minifigure list is way more worth it. Quote
Colossus Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) MARVEL/TLG discussion: MARVEL : I agree that there should be an X-Men Sentinel set. But would a robot (Hero Factory) with a few minifigs (including a Wolverine variant) ever appeal to kids in this day and age? LEGO: Nah. Let's stick with Spider-Man. Perhaps change Spidey's costume? It's simple, really; and it costs only (whisper whisper). MARVEL: WHAAA...? How much to redesign a minifig? Hecks no! Just change Spidey's vehicle du jour. Edited December 17, 2013 by Colossus Quote

I'm sure it was more "Here's the budget this year, looks like we will have to make several new molds. It's usually only a few but this year there's loads of new ones. Flash's helmet , Green Goblin, Rocket Racoon, Groot, Star lords helmet and a new Nova helmet." "Isn't there any way to get more money"? " nope not when we are competing with Hobbit, Star Wars, TMNT and all the other themes that want more money. Well it's more important we get these characters right than get someone to spend time on designing a new Spider-man figure. Make him design either an X-men or Guardian figure". Quote
rakky Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 I think it's clearly money orientated. They could change it and use more new moulds, but then they would make a slightly smaller profit (hopefully no one here is under the impression that Lego don't make a hell of a lot of money these days) 2015 will see less spiderman hopefully and more other heroes. Similar to the lack of Iron Man after so many Iron men this year. Quote
