North Lego Star Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 http://www.brickshop...an-polybag.html its 25 euros. Which is rally much for one little polyback. Ya, I'm not going to pay that much for that. I'll probabaly just wait until the polybags avaliable in the US or just buy a Spider Man off of Ebay or Bricklink. Quote
Numbuh1Nerd Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Happy Holidays, everyone! I finally got the Riddler Chase set, and I'm actually pretty surprised at how light the new Batmobile is compared to the old one. Flash looks pretty great standing with the rest of the Justice League, but I won't consider it a complete set until Green Lantern and Martian Manhunter come in, although maybe Cyborg will fill Martian Manhunter's spot. GuntherThePenguin Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Seeing as how Hobbit sets can have only Thranduil and some random elves without Bilbo or Thorin, why can't we have a darn superhero set without Batman? If we can have a set without any main characters for Hobbit, why can't we have a set with just Green Lantern? Quote
Sir Brickalot Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 ^ Batman is much more well known to their target audience. They may know Green Lantern, but obscure characters such as Martian Manhunter won't attract their target audience. Quote

If we can have a set without any main characters for Hobbit, why can't we have a set with just Green Lantern? I think in LEGO's head, kids will buy any Hobbit set as long as it has some cool monster-y looking thing, but kids aren't interested by any other DC character besides Batman. I think the reason they're so tentative about making Green Lantern is because the merchandise from the movie didn't sell well. That's why the animated series on Cartoon Network was cancelled. These companies oughta know by now that the reason the movie merch didn't sell is because the movie was awful, not because the character was. Martian Manhunter is probably best in a set along with another character anyway. He's not much on his own. I had a neat idea for Martian Manhunter set, though. It would be Batman and MM vs. Firefly, and Firefly would have MM trapped in a ring of fire (fire being his one weakness) and Batman would swoop in in his Bat*insert overused vehicle here*, probably wearing a special fire-proof Batsuit variant (probably not like the videogame one). It's a rough idea, but an idea nonetheless. I think LEGO could easily do a whole wave of DC sets with Justice League members facing off with assassins. Batman vs. Bane, Green Arrow vs. Merlyn, etc. Quote

If we can have a set without any main characters for Hobbit, why can't we have a set with just Green Lantern? Well I don't think the Hobbit sets can really be compared to the DC sets ,because the hobbit sets are based on something. I haven't seen the new movie yet but I assume that all the sets are based on specific scenes in the film. The DC sets are mostly plucked from thin air. The reason bilbo isn't included in every set is because from the look of the sets he's not in those scenes. Also while it looks that desolation of Smaug wave only has one Bilbo set, there's still another DOS set with bilbo. The barrel escape and murkwood spiders are based on DOS despite being released last year ( most likely because they decided to make 3 films out of 2 ). Also Bilbo isn't really a huge action character unlike batman, and he isn't a huge draw for a set either. When a kid sees a hobbit set there more taken in by the set in general including the creatures, figures and how the set looks. Where as with DC it's oooh Batman, and then whoever else. Green lantern is a huge risk for companies at the moment, especially given that the movie flopped, barely any movie merchandise was sold, his cartoon series was canceled and no shop would sell any cartoon merchandise since the movie merchandise didn't sell. Numbuh1Nerd Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Green lantern is a huge risk for companies at the moment, especially given that the movie flopped, barely any movie merchandise was sold, his cartoon series was canceled and no shop would sell any cartoon merchandise since the movie merchandise didn't sell. My favorite thing about that list is that it's also a flow chart. The movie flopped therefore barely any movie merchandise was sold so his cartoon series was cancelled and no shop would sell any cartoon merchandise! It's all to be blamed on that crappy movie! But we have to remember that LEGO did make a Green Lantern Ultrabuild figure (that's what those were called, right?) during the first wave of the theme. I'm not sure how well it sold, but it does say that LEGO isn't fully opposed to Green Lantern. I'm fairly certain that he won't be getting his own set anytime soon, but we could see him teamed up with another hero (probably Batman *eyeroll*) fairly soon, given they've hit every other major Justice League member. I'm excluding Martian Manhunter, since he isn't that iconic of a member. I'll go ahead and put money on the next wave of DC sets including Green Lantern and Cyborg, since we've pretty much used every marketable member of the Batman family (Red Hood and Red Robin are really the only ones left and frankly aren't well-known enough to make the cut yet). Maybe in a year or two we'll get Martian Manhunter, Green Arrow, Black Canary, and Zatanna if we're lucky. (this post took a huge tangent, I apologize) Quote
TheBatstan Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 (edited) Well I've managed to get the Man-Bat Attack set and finally got around to buying the Power Armor Lex set (I know im 2 years late almost ) and here are my thoughts on the sets Man-Bat: This set to me is still very lackluster, the only reason why i bought this set is for Nightwing who looks amazing sans the hair which I replaced with Mutt Williams in black, but for some reason Lego thought it was hard to give him 2 trans-red lightsaber blades for his sticks . Besides him everything else is pretty meh, Batman is a wasted retread and this was a great opportunity to get a New 52 Batman as almost every other Bat-Family member gets a New 52 retread, Man-Bat was a villain I've never really cared for but he looks ok. The Batcopter looks odd but i mowed it for parts to use on the Batwing and also did the same to Nightwing's glider. Out of all the 2014 sets, this is probably the weakest set IMO. (Rant over) Power Armor Lex: Why didnt i pick this set up in the first place!?! This set is probably one of the best $20 SH sets made and im glad i picked it up before it got retired. The minifigs are superb and are a nice change up with Superman, WW and Lex. The mech (which i thought would be taller) reminds me a lot of the old Exo-Force sets and it is awesome and the inclusion of the little green Kryptonite rock is a good touch. Get this set before it's gone if you want a JL or at least a Trinity group! Edited December 27, 2013 by batmobileAO Quote

Speaking of this set, since it's about to go out of circulation, do you think we'll see a new set with non-Man of Steel Superman or Wonder Woman in the coming waves? It seems ridiculous that LEGO would think that the Batmobile would need to be in circulation but not Superman and Wonder Woman. This might be a good time to give us WW's invisible jet and a New 52 variant, and maybe New 52 Supes can go up against Braniac? Quote

This might be a good time to give us WW's invisible jet and a New 52 variant, and maybe New 52 Supes can go up against Braniac? The most likely way they'll do that is as a The LEGO Movie set, and if that's the case it wouldn't be based on the New 52. BUT, we are basically guaranteed sets on Batman Vs. Superman in 2015, so I'm sure we'll see Wonder Woman and Superman in there. Of course, that would be based on the movie, so it's not what you're looking for. Quote
TheBatstan Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 And Lego could also include with Supes and WW a New 52 Batman since this wave missed its chance. It could also include Darkseid (big fig please), a boom tube and a few brick built Parademons (Darkseid's "henchmen" so to speak) Quote

I think lego will wait until the MOS sets are discontinued, as at the moment there's still 3 Superman sets on shelves. While they are based on the film, I think LEGO will want to wait until they've got all the possible sales from the movie sets. Otherwise they would be losing sales. Quote

Repeter Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 I used to be a completist...but not anymore. There is no way I am buying the Man-Bat set when both my custom Nightwing and Man-Bat are world's better than the official minifigs. I'll skip the Riddler Chase set too, as the Flash is the only reason I can think of to buy the set. I'd rather spend $50 on a Christo or some other customizer than buy that set. This way, I'll get leg printing on Flash too! The Steamroller set is decent, even if that plane is hot garbage. A couple good minifigs and the Steamroller itself make it worthwhile. The Spidey sets are even worse. Everyone of those Spidey vehicles is a bad joke and we all know it. Any other view is just being apologetic. That kids might like them is no excuse--kids would like better vehicles and/or bases too. The GG is sooo bad, the Luke Cage and MJ easy customs...the only attractive things in all the Spidey waves are: the new Doc Ock (shouldn't be too bad to pick up on B'link), the armored car from that set and MJ's torso. The rest is bad, bad, bad. The Avengers, at least, got good sets. Good minifigs, a decent, if a bit ordinary base and the tank is pretty cool, imo. I will be buying both of those. I'm just not keen to throw my money at LEGO for bad sets anymore. I wouldn't have like these as a kid (lots of kids have good taste, if we just listen to them) and I def don't like them now. LEGO needs to figure out what they want to do with these lines. They need to figure out that these lines don't want the same treatment as other lines. Super heros are about characters...lots and lots of characters. No one wants the same five characters, redone to point of nausea. Super heros are about battles in cool locations, with cool vehicles. No one wants a dang Spidey trike. What the heck is a Spidey trike?!? My $.02? Do some collectible minifig lines and concentrate more on things that have happened within the DC and Marvel universes. Star Wars, HP, LotR? They all concentrate on things that have actually happened in their particular universes and have great sets because of it. Quote

I agree with a lot of what Repeter. He left a very detailed commentary that explained his opinion, which is perfectly fine considering the whole purpose of the thread is to talk about the 2014 sets and what we think of them. It's fine if you like the new sets, but I imagine most of us would prefer more varied minifigures and less vehicles. Kids might not mind you, but, actually, when I was a kid, I preferred having a base for my pirates and knights - it was the best part. Quote
