ReZourceman Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I am very very happy to be getting Cowled Wolverine however I am a bit gutted that LEGO are up to their old tricks. There is only ONE existing X-Men set and in this new one we are getting two of thw three existing figures. Ugh. Anyway I am happy to be getting him! Sentinel looks okay, but I like it. Quote
R-C Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Wolverine looks great!! It is exactly how it looks in the videogame! And I believe that the Storm minifig will have the same hairpiece she has in the videogame....tiara included!! TLG has done that before, think about gandalf the white and elrond in the LOTR videogame, they had a new hairpiece (very detailed) in the videogame, but in the prelim images they didn't :) I guess Tt games already knows the hairpieces upfront. And based on that I think that we will see a Mystique minifigure, she has a very detailed hairpiece... :) Quote
Cammo Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I was not going to buy any Marvel sets due to other things coming out but as the X-men set reminds me of the old cartoons, this is a must buy for me! Now I ve got that intro tune stuck in my head :p Quote
The-Daryl Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Great news on the cowl. But, that can't possibly be the final draft Sentinel - it looks nothing like the video game version.... I mean we are getting an entire set (the spider copter) from a 2 second glimpse in the video game (it was never in the USM cartoon)... Quote
Borex Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Yesssss Wolverine with cowl and his cool yellow and brown suit. Maybe the Sentinel will get a new molded head, since the pic is just a prelim, we're not sure about anything. I too, would have had the blackbird and the Sentinel as two different sets. I think the builds would be better, so a bulkier and bigger Sentinel and a good blackbird, as well as we would have gotten some more figures. If there's gonna be a next x-men set (please), it better be the x-mansion to complete our x-men group. Quote
Kerberos Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) He could have a bit more bulk but for me its the head thats really throwing it off. If the face wasn't so squashed and printed lower on the piece like this it would look MUCH better: http://i43.tinypic.com/2e48z6f.jpg I think the problem with that would be that the print would cross onto multiple pieces. Just looking at it; the head seems to be comprised of a round plate then a round brick (with the printing on the side) and the very top is a dome (like R2D2's head). Exactly. Sentinels are supposed to be towering Robots, that smash through roofs to grab one x-man, while fighting another. This looks to be a 15$ Set, where a 25$ set with a bigger sentinel and 3 figs would have seemed appropriate. Sentinels have been made in various sizes and styles over the years. Some were only slightly taller than a person and others larger than buildings. These days we even have Evangelion like sentinels I think the size they went with is fine. A set with just minifigs and a big sentinel would look boring to little kids. Also, what I really wish is that DC would run some cartoons for the sets to be based on like Ultimate Spider-man, in the sense of adding more obscure characters. Brave and the Bold has been gone for a bit now, so they probably won't be using that as a source, but as bad as the cartoon is, Ultimate Spider-man is the only reason we've gotten Iron Fist/Power Man/Nova (though we may have gotten Nova in GotG sets later depending on how the movie goes). It's too bad DC isn't pushing their other characters a little harder, or at least running a JL cartoon (as far as I know there isn't one on the air right now?). Would like to see some support characters like Black Manta, Professor Zoom/Reverse Flash, Martian Manhunter and obviously Green Lantern and Sinestro. All that being said, nice to see some new photos. Everyone was hoping for a brick-built Sentinel and really, it looks about like what I'd expect from an official set. I bet it could be modded into something better pretty easily, if that's what it looks like. Disappointed though, that if we're only getting one new X-Men set it's gotta have two characters we already got in the only X-men set to come out already, even if it's nice to see Wolverine's cowl. Would've much preferred the Blackbird come with Storm, Cyclops, and Beast + Sentinel and another figure or two (not a huge X-men fan so I don't care who fills in the rest, mostly just want 4 different protagonists to make a sort of 'core' team with). Warner Bros/DC doesn't have total control of their cartoons anymore. Since the WB TV channel collapsed and they created the CW; they've been putting all their DC cartoons on Cartoon Network rather than a channel they own. That means Cartoon Network says what works and what doesn't and what they're interested in is selling merchandise of well-known characters; not pushing DC's agenda of establishing lesser known characters. Beware the Batman tried to do exactly that and it got axed real quick. I still think the set will likely include Astonishing Cyclops flying the Blackbird during the fight. Great news on the cowl. But, that can't possibly be the final draft Sentinel - it looks nothing like the video game version.... I mean we are getting an entire set (the spider copter) from a 2 second glimpse in the video game (it was never in the USM cartoon)... The Spider-man sets are supposed to release in April and the X-men sets aren't til maybe July or August. The X-men stuff in the game doesn't reflect the real sets because they weren't ready in time to be included so the game developer just made up their own. Edited January 11, 2014 by Kerberos Quote
Doom2099 Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 So glad we're getting Wolverine's mask and classic costume. Magneto's purple is a nice change of pace, but at the same time his classic look can't really be beat, so this seems like a bit of a step back. Storm on the other hand looks pretty good, but I hope the costume design is Jim Lee inspired. The Sentinel really could have been something special though, and this one really isn't. Quote
strangely Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) They somehow managed to make my favorite version of Wolverine. Good job Lego! I still think we'll be seeing a character flying the plane. My guess is either professor Xavier or Cyclops. It's weird that we've seen 2/3 of that prelim picture, but are lacking the middle part. Great news on the cowl. But, that can't possibly be the final draft Sentinel - it looks nothing like the video game version.... I mean we are getting an entire set (the spider copter) from a 2 second glimpse in the video game (it was never in the USM cartoon)... They were never going to make a giant minifigure like in the game. It's just not practical. Likely the final version will be much more refined. Perhaps we'll even see a molded head for it (Though that's not really vital to me). At least they learned their lesson from last time and gave this robot knee's. Dr Leg O Brick Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) Just as I predicted months ago, a Sentinel with the Blackbird! Fantastic, great Wolverine. Those who are possibly upset by the Sentinel, to my knowledge they have come in three different sizes. The originals where practically tiny, about 10ft if I remember correctly. The next two version's got bigger and bigger, as you can see from the photos. They have come human sized, however, they where able to camouflage and originated in a possible future (Such as Nimrod). Wow, so that's three out of the five fig's confirmed, Wolverine, Storm and Magneto, plus that dark blue fig on the top of the box who's either Cyclops or Mystique by my reckoning. I'm thinking Beast maybe the last one, after all I think the two remaining will be in the Blackbird, which would make sense (Cyclops flying, beast co-pilot). Just to ask a question, is Wolverine in his Brown costume?!? It's a dream come true if it is, since day one I've been hoping that costume. Also, if it is his brown costume, Lego seem to be going for a late 80's/90's themed approach, with Magneto and Storm in similar costumes from that era (If I remember correctly). Mr. Elijah Timms Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I just hope this X-Men set sells like hot cakes.... The better it performs, the more X sets we'll get in the next few years. I don't want my kids growing up in a world where there's a Luke Cage minifig but no Colossus. Do it for the children, TLG. Quote
stackables Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 The sentinel looks horrible. Very disappointing. Quote
thefyfe Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Sentinel looks majorly preliminary so sure final will be sleeker and smarter Quote

There is only ONE existing X-Men set and in this new one we are getting two of thw three existing figures. Ugh. Anyway I am happy to be getting him! Sentinel looks okay, but I like it. Well they are variants of the existing figures. Plus we don't know that it's just one set, it could be two. LEGO are most likely including Magneto since he we now be out of circulation, and is the main x-men villain. Plus he has a huge role in the new film. Wolverine on the other hand was most likely included to try and please fans, a huge amount of people were complaining about the lack of a cowl. So this version is most likely to keep people happy. Plus he is the most well know x-man. Quote
TenorPenny Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 If it's one set only, who's flying the Blackbird..? And why is Magneto on the same side as the Sentinels..? I must be misreading it. Quote
thefyfe Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Would be great if was 2 sets. but suppose if sentinel was by itself though I'm sure it would be looking at wolverine. Be best 12 quid set ever if sentinel and wolverine - multiples would be bought! Quote
SoupOrFishOil Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 I think the problem with that would be that the print would cross onto multiple pieces. Just looking at it; the head seems to be comprised of a round plate then a round brick (with the printing on the side) and the very top is a dome (like R2D2's head). I think that it is actually this piece. There may be a plate there though. The Spider-man sets are supposed to release in April and the X-men sets aren't til maybe July or August. The X-men stuff in the game doesn't reflect the real sets because they weren't ready in time to be included so the game developer just made up their own. That Wolverine variant did appear in the game though, so it seems like TT got a good glimpse of these. Quote
Captain Nemo Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Sentinel looks majorly preliminary so sure final will be sleeker and smarter A few people have mentioned this, but I'm betting that the Sentinel will look exactly like he does now. This picture looks just as near-finalized as the other early images we saw, and in fact it looks more finalized then some of the other latest marvel images we saw. Though I do find my own words disappointing too. I do wish the Sentinel would have appeared in its own set; a $20 set with two new figs, an updated Wolverine and a larger fuller Sentinel would be spectacular, where as now the Sentinel is more or less made of leftover Blackbird set parts. If it's one set only, who's flying the Blackbird..? And why is Magneto on the same side as the Sentinels..? I must be misreading it. While also disappointing, I think the possibility that we won't have a pilot is there. I could see Lego just having Magneto stopping the plane mid flight (ala X2) and the mutants jumping out to fight. Though I do expect to see at least two more figures, since sets around $50 usually have 5 minifigures. Quote
Dr Leg O Brick Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Magneto could be controlling the Sentinel's through his powers, (hence why some Sentinel's are made of plastic), he's done things like that in the past. 5 fig's, one large model, one small like the Quinjet is what I'm sticking to as my hunch. I'm not really disappointed to be honest, I would of preferred a brick-built Sentinel head, so I could buy multiples of eBay to make Rover and Master-Mold, but it look's like it isn't feasible to do that at the smaller scale. Maybe they're testing the water for 2015? And three Guardian's sets, interesting, maybe we will get the full line up after all. Quote
Moon_Knight Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 The reason why Wolverine is once again included in another X-Men set is because he's one of the most popular superheroes. He's considered a class A superhero along with Batman, Superman, and Spider-Man. I'm very happy to see him in the awesome John Byrne costume and it definitely beats his first appearance costume with the whiskers. The Sentinel is ridiculous. I hope everybody's right when they say it's a preliminary but I have my doubts. The sentinels in DOFP seem rather small and LEGO could be modeling it after that design (and yes, I know LEGO doesn't have the licensing to Marvel Fox but that doesn't mean it still can't look similar). Also, with how inexpensive this set is, and everybody seems to think it's the Blackbird, I don't see the sentinel getting any bigger with the piece count. Quote
rakky Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) Would be great if was 2 sets. but suppose if sentinel was by itself though I'm sure it would be looking at wolverine. Be best 12 quid set ever if sentinel and wolverine - multiples would be bought! Unless there is another X-man included in the set. It's probably the same set though as the lightning in background gives the impression that Storm is there. Edited January 11, 2014 by rakky Quote
DJ Bricks Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) Im going to say the the set is Wolverine, Storm and. Cyclops(Blue yelloe handed fig in prelims) vs Magneto and a Sentinel. Maybe a Brotherhood. Like Sabretooth. Seems like a good way to cash in on DOFP without having movie rights. And since Woverine has a new mold pictured with him. I font think Storm will come with a new mold. Edited January 11, 2014 by daniel gourhan22 Quote

Amazing Bricks Posted January 11, 2014 Posted January 11, 2014 Who ever took the pictures of the set, they should taken a picture of the blackbird. But my guess is it has the confidential mark on it. Quote
