ianmrid Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 (edited) So I guess the big question is, was there anything about the jet design you noticed (big molds? something else?) to warrant its $50 price tag? Or is it just plain overpriced for what it is like a lot of us are starting to assume? Honestly, I think it's overpriced. Nothing struck me about the design at all other than it didn't really look like the X-Jet and the colours seemed too bright. I really wanted to stay and talk to the superhero product lady some more but we were hurried on (I think because of the Disney guys behind us which meant they wanted to uncover the GotG sets). The best news I took away from the Superhero stuff was the fact it is becoming 'evergreen'. With that in mind, we are way more likely to get more figs/sets as time goes on (a la Star Wars where everything gets made eventually!) How much interior space is there for minifigures as well? It seemed that it would just seat the two X-Men figs from the set - I didn't get to pick it up and look around inside it tho sadly. Also, did you see if storm had a molded headpiece or just the white hair we saw in the prelim pics? No tiara in the pics they had of all the figs - I checked specifically for that! Just the standard hair in white. Edited January 21, 2014 by ianmrid Quote
SoupOrFishOil Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Evergreen is really good news. I just hope that the DC sets next year reflect that a little better. Quote
DJ Bricks Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Ianmrid, where you guys brought on a tour before the show actually opened, like the night before? If so that may be why you couldnt see the GotG sets. Which is weird because we got to see the IM3 and MoS sets. Maybe because this movie is more shrouded. In mystery. Quote

No, it was a 10am tour on the day of the show (today). There were lots of bits that were hidden elsewhere in the show too - for example a lot of the Transformers and Spiderman stuff in the Hasbro stand. I presume it was to maintain the movie mystery - the Iron Man sets last year were partially hidden too to prevent spoilers. Then, the lady we spoke too said it was a Marvel decision, not Lego. It all seems to be movie-related secrecy. Quote
strangely Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 No tiara in the pics they had of all the figs - I checked specifically for that! Just the standard hair in white. That disappoints me considerably. However summer is still a bit off, perhaps there's a small chance it will change (Though I'm not exactly holding my breath). Plus I guess we could always see another variant of Storm in the future with a better hairpiece, after all it took three years just to get Wolverine's cowl. I think what bothers me more about it is the use of that same old hairpiece, it's so overused in this line, it's like all these women go to the same salon... Quote

Then, a video of it and the MoS sets were accidentally posted on YouTube which was taken at the German Toy Fair. I meant we did get descriptions of the sets last year from various websites. I hope brickset and Fbtb will be able to see the sets, we will see them at NY anyway. Sounds like certian things were cover for movie spoilers. Quote
Piranha Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Sorry, some of the information was not conveyed completely (I was with Barry viewing this stuff - we only had 30 mins to view everything Lego had to offer! We already made the nice lady late for her next appt. by 15 mins as we were really dragging round!). Wolverine and the Sentinel are in the set also - Wolvie with a cowl, as per the pic. The Sentinel looks less crappy in person but is still too skinny and not as imposing as I would like. But the proportions with the head seem better than the pic makes them look. I was disappointed with the X-Jet though - wasn't instantly recognisable as the X-Jet IMHO and reminded me of a bigger Ninjago plane. It is this Cyclops costume in the set, although none of the actual figs were there - just mock-up pics, but they said they would be very accurate to how they would look when produced: Thanks for all the details. I am super happy we are getting that version of Cyclops from the game, that is easily my favorite version of him. I hope in 2015 for DC they do JL sets, like a JL Hall of Justice, Fortress of Solitude, more comic based sets etc. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 @ianmrid: Thanks for the information! Are there any additional bits of information you could provide for some of the other themes as well (like The Hobbit)? That would be much appreciated Too bad Storm seems to have the same hairpiece that a lot of other SH female characters sport, but at least it's in a new and quite useful colour The Sentinel apparently hasn't been improved much, but that was to be expected Quote

That would be much appreciated No prob - will do my best on the Hobbit, but that was one of the last things we got to see and we got dragged away mid-sentence from that stall as we were really making our tour guide late! I'll re-read what was written and add anything else I can remember over in the Hobbit thread. Quote
CM4Sci Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Hey, do you think you could post info for other themes in their respective threads? It'd help a lot! Thanks! -Sci Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 @ianmrid: Thank you very much! Just noticed the bit on the 2015/2016 range... Quite weird they mention that so far in advance Also great to hear that the theme is going to stay, I was afraid it would end this or next year Quote
The-Daryl Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 Thanks for the information, Ianmrid! Like many others I'm disappointed that Storm's hair won't have the tiara. But Wolverine's cowl, and the Cyclops *almost make up for it. Hearing that it's a "evergreen" is pretty exciting, too. Since eventually we'll get most non obscure characters. Hearing that Spiderman is a big seller made me a bit sad though; At least with Batman he wore different suits and the minifigures can have some variety even with it all being the same character. How many Spideys in the same exact suit do we need though? Quote
gedren_y Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 About the "X-Jet", IIRC, in both X-Men: Evolution (cartoon) and in Ultimate Spider-man (comic) it was a short and wide vehicle. The iconic 'Blackbird" was a take on the SR-71. That real jet has long since been surpassed. Quote
Master Spectra Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I wish we could get a new spider man Quote
strangely Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I'm interested in seeing this X-jet. Personally I would prefer something wider that can actually fit several minifigures. Overall I'm happy about this set. A different villain and a better Hairpiece for Storm are my only real issues. And I can live with either of those things. Quote
wesker Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Nice that Magneto is getting a hairpiece and Cyclops is finally confirmed. I'm a bit disapointed by the description of the X-Jet but its still better than nothing at all. Hopefully they will fix the face on the Sentinel so it isn't printed so high up on the headpiece. I'd love to hear that the "inserted 2015 DC range" is actually a DC range, and not an "inserted MORE YES MORE BATMAN range... It would be good to finally get some more variety with the line but I'm not expecting it to be much different from previous years. Still as long as we get some more Justice League members and some new Batman villains instead of mostly variations of existing ones I'll be happy. Ugh, astonishing x-men Cyclops is not as cool as classic 90's... Lego seems to be going super random with their x-men costume selections is really annoying. I don't mind Astonishing as much. My only real pet peeve with the costume is they went back to the "head condom" look of his earlier costumes. But I agree it would have been nice to get the 90s one. Yeah, I'd personally rather have the other cyclops because he would fit in better. I wish we could get that early cyclops from the game that had the molded headpiece for his visor thing. I'm guessing they changed it though so they wouldn't have to make a new mold when they made his fig as you said. I honestly don't care much for this version but I'd still like him for my collection. So does this mean we'll never get a jean grey fig? I actually really liked her game design and now that cyclops is coming in this variant, it seems unlikely to me we'll ever get that jean grey. I'm sure Jean will come eventually, we're probably just going to be waiting a while. I prefer they went with the Phoenix costume over the 90s uniform though. I never really liked that costume much especially with the tacky headgear. If TDK Trilogy Batman just needs a few colour alterations to his costume to get around the SDCC exclusive minifigure issue then I'm sure they can do the same for Phoenix - preferably replacing the yellow parts with gold. I don't understand why they'd go with this version over the other. The other Cyclops is just as doable as this one. All he needs is a new torso print, maybe leg printing, the default brown tousled hair, and a new head print. I'm concerned this Cyclops is going to turn out like Captain America. Astonishing Cyclops is more modern than the 90s one. Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 "Evergreen". Not sure I like the sound of that, for DC it is. I'm expecting another decade or so of Batman, remakes of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Aquaman, and MAYBE Green Lantern if we're lucky. I highly doubt we'll be getting anything other than Batman out of those few characters. Maybe Cyborg and Martian Manhunter, because they're easy to make (or so says the 2014 Ninjago waves). I was really hoping they'd end next year so that they could bring it back years later with a renewed contract to make more sets, but then again I'm sure 90% would be Batman, no matter how much I rant. "Batman is a bestseller" well when he only has 4 other sets to go against... 2013 had half Batman half Superman sets, 1 of the Superman sets was just a car, and the others had terrible figs (apart from their armor, the Kryptonians reused heads, and Lois Lane was... well she was Lois Lane) and the largest set (I heard) was smaller in scale for, guns? Batman only had 1 comic Sup's set to go against him, of course he sells better! He's the only thing their selling! Quote

Edit: If it's evergreen like City and Star Wars, they probably can make more sets, as evidenced by this year's increase. DC is just spending those slots on Duplo and a TLM cameo for Batman while Marvel is using them for GotG and X-men. I'm still not bothered by that though, because I don't think we needed eight Batman sets this year. Maybe they'll branch out next year...but I also said that in 2011, 2012, and 2013. More sets = more likely for them to run out of Batman stuff to make inside their "do-over" cycle. The reason so much of our DC stuff has been Batman stuff (and remakes of the previous line) is because it wasn't evergreen before. With 5 years between releases they can get away with rehashes a lot more. And even besides all that, how is more Lego Superheroes a bad thing by any stretch, even if it's not always to taste? Quote
namioik Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I might the minority in this discussion but I LOVE batman sets and I'm not sure if I would ever get tired of them. I started liking them slowly once I learned how to appreciate the vehicles (maybe because marvel wasn't really good in that department with the exception of the quinjet) Quote
Sam892 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Ooh the diversity! Surely the problem lies with WB who unlike Marvel own full rights to all of the DC characters, yet some how have made 7 Batman films, 6 Superman films, 1 Batman spin off, 1 Superman spin off and Green lantern in the past few decades. The Big Bang Theory is currently doing a better job at promoting DC Heroes, than WB is. No wonder all LEGO keep giving us is Batman and Superman they have very little help from WB. Freddy Bricker Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Of course they'res also a confirmed Constantine and Hourman shows. And a rumored live action Young Justice series. I actually think DC does great in what they have control over, their comics. Warner Bros isn't as huge as they used to be, ergo they don't make the best movies. But since most people will judge a franchise off of it's movies, then I can see why we're getting so much Batman, that's pretty much 905 of what Warner Bros will ever focus on. Quote
