strangely Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Surely the problem lies with WB who unlike Marvel own full rights to all of the DC characters, yet some how have made 7 Batman films, 6 Superman films, 1 Batman spin off, 1 Superman spin off and Green lantern in the past few decades. The Big Bang Theory is currently doing a better job at promoting DC Heroes, than WB is. No wonder all LEGO keep giving us is Batman and Superman they have very little help from WB. If only DC had continued the DC Animated Universe beyond Justice League Unlimited, we'd probably still have good DC shows on the air then we'd have sets based off of that. Instead they've opted to create increasingly worse shows (Hated BYB, YJ bored me, couldn't even sit through GL). It's sad the only DC cartoon I actually like right now is Teen Titans Go and that's just a watered down version of a better show. Please Bruce Timm, bring back the DCAU so we can get sets based off of good DC shows. Of course they'res also a confirmed Constantine and Hourman shows. And a rumored live action Young Justice series. I actually think DC does great in what they have control over, their comics. Warner Bros isn't as huge as they used to be, ergo they don't make the best movies. But since most people will judge a franchise off of it's movies, then I can see why we're getting so much Batman, that's pretty much 905 of what Warner Bros will ever focus on. From my perspective Marvel controls theaters and DC controls televisions (Though the cartoon division of DC has slipped in the last few years). Unfortunately we're stuck between a rock and a hard place with sets for the DC line. The movies are too infrequent, the live action shows too dark, and the cartoons get cancelled too quickly. There's so little of current media to tie into that I can't blame Lego for doing generic sets utilizing only the most popular characters. Marvel has several movies and shows on at all times, Lego just has more to work with for them. They get TV sets, movie sets and comic sets yearly because of how much Marvel saturates the market. With DC we get comic sets with occasional movie sets and TV sets rarely. I'm sure once WB kicks the movies and TV into high gear they'll finally diversify the sets. Until then though we can enjoy line of Batman after Batman. Edited January 22, 2014 by strangely Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 agree, though I must say I loved Young Justice and Green Lantern could've been better (ok it was boring). But doesn't Warner Bros also control their merchandise, that would also explain why the merchandise isn't there, because WB just isn't... good(?). Quote
Faefrost Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 One word: YES! Blue and yellow ship shares Star Lord's color scheme so his ship seems to be more and more plausible. But, of course, blue and yellow is also Nova's color scheme so who knows. I'm just glad that we're getting Groot, the only Guardian that I thought would be overlooked. Very intrigued and excited! A picture leaked out recently of what looked suspiciously similar to StarLords sentient ship "Ship" from the comics. Blue and Yellow also means it might be a Nova Cruiser from the concept art. ( Glen Close does play the leader of the Nova Corps so we may get one.) Either way I will be thrilled. Comics + Space Opera + Lego = Nerd Heaven. I still want a minifig of a telepathic Russian dog in a spacesuit. Quote

Until then though we can enjoy line of Batman after Batman. Yeah I can agree with this. For a long time DC had the stronger animation front (IMO, anyway) with Batman:TAS, Justice League/Unlimited, Batman Beyond (maybe not the most popular but I liked it well enough just for a new take). Not to say there were no Marvel cartoons, X-men and Spider-man had a great run in the '90s but there was a bit of a drought after those. You're right though, WB/DC just aren't giving Lego much to work with. A picture leaked out recently of what looked suspiciously similar to StarLords sentient ship "Ship" from the comics. Blue and Yellow also means it might be a Nova Cruiser from the concept art. The more that I think about it, I'm almost convinced that it will indeed be Ship. It's pretty iconic and, if they use the current comic version, has a neat design. Plus it would be a good way to include a large portion of the Guardians themselves (and possibly variants). I'm just glad we finally get a set that's over $50! Quote
Marvelfan120 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 so, with superheroes being en 'evergreen' product, will we be seeing 20+ sets a year starting in 2015? Quote
eldiano Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Dumb question, when are the other two "january" sets of penguin and steam roller coming out on the US? Why can't the Lego group just release them everywhere!!! I hate how Toys R Us has the Marvel sets available at "stores" but when I went to all of them none of them had them lol, FML. Just to verify the Batman from the batmobile chase is from the New 52 and not the BWB right? Edited January 22, 2014 by eldiano Quote

Probably closer to March, most of the US sets across all interesting themes got pushed back in favor of pushing the movie sets. Quote

Just to verify the Batman from the batmobile chase is from the New 52 and not the BWB right? I think they wanted a couple Batman sets to be out for the Lego Movie. The Lego movie is why tje DC sets and Sw sets are being delayed. And Batman is based on BTB. And as for the GotG i think we will get Star-Lord, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot (confirmed) and Drax. Villians Ronan and Nebula (shes the secondary villian) Maybe characters Yondu, the Collector, and Nova corps characters. Quote
just2good Posted January 22, 2014 Author Posted January 22, 2014 And Batman is based on BTB. It's not. It's just based on some of the New 52 comic designs, but this wave is essentially a generic comic-based Batman wave. Quote

Super Goblin Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 It looks nothing like the new 52 Batman but looks just like the BTB Batman just a lighter shade of grey. With Superheroes being an evergreen line now I wonder if we will start seeing advent calendars? I hope so. Quote
Colossus Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Whoever suggested the Chima Phoenix Bird for Jean's Phoenix effect - it is excellent for that - it was my first thought! Woohooo! I'm hot today! This will be my first Chima set, and probably last, unless they release a Chima Minifig with a tail piece that I can use for my Nightcrawler. BTW, does Pick a Brick online offer those little "ice cream/puff of smoke" pieces? I have an idea to make a bamf effect for Nightcrawler, but I don't know how available the pieces are. Quote
Cammo Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Since the Super vs Bat movie is postponed, there's an ideal opportunity to create a Green Lantern vs Sinestro set. They don't even have to create new molds for that set. Quote
mulletwing Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 All DC and Star Wars sets released in Australia today. Including the Junior set. Quote

Yeah, It's frustrating as hell they'd choose to delay the only sets I'm interested in, and only in their biggest market. Quote
gedren_y Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I still believe that the delay is intended to make the release coincide with MegaCon. I also think we'll get our first look at the Guardians of the Galaxy sets there. Quote
Dr Leg O Brick Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I forgot it my previous post to mention about it going evergreen, I've always thought so since the first set I opened. I thought to myself, "Could this Avengers wave be the equivalent of the 1999 Star Wars wave?", and it appears so. As I said before in a previous post, I think one thing that has and will set Superheroes apart from most Licenses, is the advantage of very few sets being repeated. Think about, all they have to do is every few years (7 years perhaps) re-release the main things, The Bat-Cave, Quinjet, etc. Apart from that, there free to do what Marvel/DC tells them to make. TBH, as much as I want more different Marvel sets, I can live with a few Spidey sets every year, as it seems, thanks to the cartoon, they aren't stuck with the Stereotypical Spidey rogues gallery or hero gallery. As for DC? I stopped being a completest on Wave 2. I'll get the Flash set, maybe the Penguin and Juniors one this year, other than that, I'd rather invest in Marvel. Quote

As long as they keep putting characters like Luke Cage in them nonsensical Spider-vehicles, I'm fine! Plus, I've got plans for these vehicles, I'll be adding some custom made stickers and figs to turn them into Hellfire club vehicles. Edited January 22, 2014 by Dr Leg O Brick Quote
Faefrost Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 The Official Evergreen status of the Super Heroes line is amazing. Just think of how long it has taken us to get to this point. One company actually has managed to untie Marvel and DC under a long term cooperative banner for the betterment of all on the toy shelves. That's just mind blowing considering how antagonistic their marketing and merchandising used to be. I think the last time anyone was able to legitimately produce fully play compatible Batman and Spider-Man toys was Mego in the 70's. Maybe the new corporate overlords have figured out that their core products are better served by synergistically garnering a greater pool of fans, then their longstanding nerd death match of pettiness. DJ Bricks Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Well i hope FBTB remebers more of the GotG sets figure wise. brickset just remeber thay the largest if a yellow and blue ship. That is sure to be Ship. Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Since the Super vs Bat movie is postponed, there's an ideal opportunity to create a Green Lantern vs Sinestro set. They don't even have to create new molds for that set. I don't know, after having seen years of Batman in Lego (in and out of his theme!) I'd say they're probably required to introduce VERY (very) few characters every now and then, and apart from the movie universe I wouldn't hold my breath for any non-Batman villains. I forgot it my previous post to mention about it going evergreen, I've always thought so since the first set I opened. I thought to myself, "Could this Avengers wave be the equivalent of the 1999 Star Wars wave?", and it appears so. I believe this evergreen status means they can just delay on putting newer and original sets out. It took Star Wars a few waves to put out obscure podracers and the like, while here we are 3 years after the beginning of the theme and we still haven't got half of a wave that isn't Batman. On Marvel's side, the minifigure selection is great, but let's just say the minifigures are the only thing backing up he sets (apart from the Daily Bugle and Quinjet that is, while Iron Man's Malibu Mansion attack was also pretty good). I still very much wish Lego let go of this theme to bring it back with more characters and the like. Quote
