Actually, while the critical response to Agents of Shield hasn't been the greatest; it's still pulling in a decent viewership anyway. When you include the live + DVR numbers the least watched episode was still above 9million viewers. There's a decent chance of a second season and they're even looking at doing a separate series focusing on Peggy Carter from the first Cap movie that might show what came before Shield was established.

I doubt we'd see sets for it though. The best we could hope for is to get a Coulson minifig from either the movie sets or the Ultimate Spider-Man sets.

My mistake, then. All I've seen is negativity about Agents of Shield, didn't realize it was getting that much viewership. I haven't been watching it much, it didn't really grab me. Either way I don't think there's a ton of set potential as far as marketable characters and such go.

Some customs actually look just as good as official figures, or really close to it. I might go for a John Stewart GL since if we get one officially it's more likely to be Hal Jordan, I imagine. Plus $20-30 for a decent custom vs. a year wait for a $20-30 set I may not like the design of anyway (assuming he comes with Batman and a Batman villain or something like that), I don't budget that tightly. If I did I don't think I'd be buying Lego at all. Besides, worst case scenario I end up with 2 Green Lanterns. Considering how many black-suit Batmans I've got currently, and Spider-men for that matter, I can probably cope with that.

Where else to get pieces from for your own Bat-vehicles? :P I got the Riddler Chase set as well as the Freeze set with Aquaman recently, and while I actually did enjoy both builds, I didn't care too much for the vehicles themselves. So instead, I just took apart both, and now I have a bunch more black to put into my Tumbler WIP and Batwing design.

I actually really like the batboat in the Freeze set, and the Riddler Chase batmobile. I'm not a fan of the various aircraft, as much. And I don't do a lot of bat-vehicle MOCs.

My wording was off, but you had said we hadn't got half a wave that isn't Batman. But we did, half of 2013 was Superman. Either way, when it comes to DC, like it or not a simple reality (that's been the case for a long time) is that Batman is what sells. There will always be more Batman representation in DC's merchandise, because there's more money in Batman than in Green Lantern, the Flash, Martian Manhunter and Cyborg put together. If they negotiate a new contract it will still be for DC licensed sets and since Batman sells best, it will be predominantly Batman. The difference is, if they're in danger of running out of Batman sets to make over a 3-4 year span, they're more likely to supplement (which is all we can realistically hope for, barring movie tie-ins like Man of Steel) with other DC characters. No contract renegotiation will change that, and even if it would they still re-contract every few years when the present one runs out, whether there's a break in set production or not.

The more DC sets we get in the less amount of time, the more likely we are to see the things you want. With a break and a reboot you'll just get more of the same for certain. Also, Spider-man is bordering on becoming for Marvel what Batman is for DC, it's kinda messed up to be all in favor of more Spider-man but preferring DC just stop being made just because you like Spider-man more than Batman.

They look pretty awesome, one way or the other!

I can see what you mean, yes Batman is extremely profitable, and I believe they should be riding on that success to introduce new characters, I'm not expecting obscure characters, I just find it ridiculous how we can barely even see popular ones. And as for your comment about Spiderman, I prefer Batman over him any day, that particular sentence really did make me laugh! When I said I wished Lego would have dropped the line and brought it back, I meant the whole Superheroes line, not just DC, and I'm pretty sure that was clearly stated, as I never said I just wanted DC to be dropped, I wanted the whole line to be dropped and brought back with revisions (specifically on DC's side). I agree now that perhaps "evergreen" is indeed something to look forward to and hopefully this years wave can allow for more diversity in the future. I never stated however, that I preferred Spiderman over Batman. And the fact that Spiderman isn't even half of this years Marvel sets (altogether, not in waves) makes me wonder why people think he's getting over-saturated. I prefer Batman's character, design, and villains more so than Spidermans, but Parker does bring something to the table that is obviously what I believe is lacking in this theme, diversity! The reason I'm completely fine with Spiderman getting plenty of sets is because they'll (probably) be based off of USM, where he fights alongside other heroes (does anyone else here SERIOUSLY think we would've gotten Iron Fist in our first wave had it not been for the show?) and villains (like Doctor Doom, and Venom) who's character ranges far out from Spiderman. These characters are useful for plenty of things, it's not like we're getting just Spiderman in his sets, which is why I was all for him getting exposed more of him. Please don't assume I like something better than something else based off of context clues in my sentences, if I don't directly state something, please don't speak for me, thank you.

And as for the sets, I've heard rumbling of another Toy Fair (sounded like a European name) coming up next week, can anyone confirm this and whether or not we will be hearing anything Guardians of the Galaxy related there?

BTB has basically been killed. It was put on "hiatus" by CN after less than 10 episodes and as far as I know it never popped up again. The last few DC shows to go "on hiatus" were subsequently cancelled. So we won't be seeing any BTB stuff. We might get a Red Robin but I'm skeptical of whether we'll see a Red Hood. He's not really a kid-friendly character, but then, neither is Deadpool so who knows.

Plus we've already seen our new Captain America and he isn't a variation based on The Winter Soldier. Unless a surprise polybag pops up we won't be seeing anything to do with The Winter Soldier this year. As for Agents of SHIELD I'll actually be surprised if it's around much longer anyway, response has not been all that positive to the show.

Red Hood may not be very kid-friendly, but they put him in one of the Lego games for DS. And then you have to consider that we're getting a set featuring a psychotic serial killer in a clown get-up every wave, so I don't think Red Hood would be hard to accomplish.

As for Cap, they may drop a little something closer to the DVD release. Agents of SHIELD, despite the so-so quality, probably won't be going anywhere. As someone already mentioned, the show's still pulling in massive viewership, myself included, and it's still Marvel related. They wouldn't want to admit anything Marvel related was a failure. I feel like we might get one set based on the show, just to say they did.

I'm still going to hope for BTB's continuation, at least for a whole season. I know the same thing happened to Young Justice and Green Lantern and will inevitably happen again because Cartoon Network refuses to let any show find it's audience unless it's filled to the brim with outdated jokes from the Internet (I'm looking at you, Teen Titans Go  )

Enjoy some random back of the box art

That drop-out-of-the-cockpit feature is pretty neat. I'd wondered if it had that, from the initial box art pictures.

does a white mohawk exist we can swap in for storm since nobody likes her hairpiece?

Yes. Brickforge has Minifig Mohawks in a few different colors, including white. I have one for my Storm. The only thing is, I have the double-sided Storm head from Eclipse Grafix, and these Mohawks don't cover the back of the head very well. Regardless, it is still a really cool accessory.

You can bet this storm is going to have a double-sided head as well. Seeing both her faces would bother me :sceptic:

I don't think Lego has made their mohawk in white. I know of only two customizers that make a mohawk piece, but the one that makes theirs in white doesn't look like Storms mohawk.

Edit, scooped.

When is the winter wave of Spidey and Avengers sets due for release, by the way?

It's more of a Spring wave. The US should be getting it soon, but I'm not sure about Singapore. I'm guessing mid-March for Singapore, and withing the next two weeks for the US.

Some of it is showing up on Toys 'R' Us's website but only as "available in stores." I haven't seen any in person yet. I imagine we'll see it in the states mid-february, as far as actual widespread release goes. Maybe March, though, considering the pushbacks a lot of stuff has gotten here. No clue for Singapore, I dunno how ya'll's releases usually differ from ours.

Yes next week (29.01-03.02) is the Nürnberg Toy Fair in Germany. As far as I know the visitors are allowed to take pictures, but if the GotG sets are hidden (like in London), I think there won't be a chance to take a picture of them.

Pics arr semi allowed at Germany, take pics of the displays but not the sets.

We'll probably get GL next year, as they seem to release one set every year with Bats alongside a JLA member (apart from Power Armour Lex set, that was amazing that no Batman appeared, but sets like Batman vs Mr Freeze and the Riddler Chase) so only a year to go.

They have a partnership with Fox because of The Simpsons set(s)

It doesn't mean that the licence for the Simpsons, includes X-men. Besides why would LEGO pay for another contract, when they can already make X-men sets based on the comic variants.

I don't imagine just because it's now an evergreen theme means we'll be seeing much more variety. Look at both City and, to a lesser extent fortunately, Star Wars. How often do we complain about all the fire/police sets popping up in City? Yes, about as much complaining about Batman is happening here. Just think of Batman/Spider-Man as Super Heroes police/fire line.

Hell, even the repetitive nature of figs like Batman and such are seen in City as well. Assuming City is a mainstay of ones collection, theres plenty of blue/red striped 'flannel/plaid' pattern clad fellows or grey jacketed, purple scarfed females running around town. We just have to let the theme grow so we can see gems like 8404 Public Transport.

I suspect with the movie still a ways off (further than Iron Man 3 was at the time of the toy fairs last year) they may still be fairly under wraps. I'll be pleasantly surprised if we see some stuff, though, even if my mind is already made up to buy whatever sets I need for the full GotG team + Ronan the Accuser.

Two sets doesn't necessarily make a pattern, though. The other JLA members we got, Superman and Wonder Woman, originally popped up in a set together without Bats. That being said, it's not looking good for another DC wave this year.

It doesn't mean that the licence for the Simpsons, includes X-men. Besides why would LEGO pay for another contract, when they can already make X-men sets based on the comic variants.

Basically this, especially since (at least in my opinion) we can get a lot more interesting variants than if they just give us the movie versions. I generally prefer my Lego Superheroes colorful, not all clad in black uniforms.

Batman and Spider-man will almost certainly be our Police and Fire. The hope is if we start getting more set per year we'll be able to get equivalents to City's other things, too. Yeah, City is dominated by emergency services but there's always non-fire/police sets in the vehicle lines and such.

I might go for a John Stewart GL since if we get one officially it's more likely to be Hal Jordan, I imagine.

I would recommend waiting a couple months. The some rumors say the GL in the Batman/Superman film will be John and even if he won´t there is still a great chance of getting him next years with a set since a new DC hero each years looks to be a tradition. Maybe Lego is even smart enough to coordinate this and makes the comic-based GL the one who doesn´t appear in the JL movie.

20 - 30$ really aren´t worth a figure, let alone the sets the official fig will be included.

Has anyone heard anything else about that Green Lantern figure that that one website said we'd be getting this year? Maybe something concrete about a second DC wave this year?
Unless a surprise polybag pops up we won't be seeing anything to do with The Winter Soldier this year.

Well, we could get a S@H polybag promo like the last two years.

Then there is the fact that DC and Marvel so far have the same amount of sets except for Arkham Asylum which means a Marvel themed S@H exclusive could get released.

And sometimes there are Walmart/Target/TRU exclusive sets that can be held secret much longer than regular wave sets but this is the unlikeliest event seeing how we only got Doc Ocks Lair and Jokers Funhouse as those before.

At least we can count on Winter Soldier appearing in some form, the Ninjago metallic arms and black scarves are really obvious like the hair of the Forrest woman for Ewok Village Leia.

Totally agree, the DCAU would have made the best source material for DC LEGO sets ever. I wonder if DC will ever reboot the DCAU with the same animation look and some of the same voice talent… meh, I can dream can't I?

Well, at some point DC will have to do some new animated shows anyway and a Justice League cartoon is rumored for a tie-in with the life-action movies. As long as the next cartoon won´t be Batman again we have good source material by default.

Say, why aren't we getting BTB sets like the Ultimate Spider-Man ones?

Because the show isn´t popular and toy manufacturers saw that from a mile away with how Batmans only selling point are his villains and except for Ras Al-Guhl every villain in the show never appeared in a cartoon or movie before. That´s why the only Bewareman set with the Bewaremobile included a senseless Riddler redesign instead of somebody who actually appeared in the cartoon.

Agents of Shield set? I never watched the show but what could you even do as a set for that show? The huge jetplane that only works as a 60-100 set if at all? Some regular looking cars? Maybe a lab even though the Hulk playset is covering that already? I don´t even think AOS is intended for children, the plots sound rather boring for comic-standards and unbearable for children standards.

We don´t even get Cap and Thor sets and those are their most important properties movies. Maybe a Coulson fig as a comic-con exclusive or in a book but otherwise Shield isn´t happening in Lego-form.

The key is that evergreen lines have much more sets simultaneously on shelves than regular lines. Star Wars has 20+ sets each year, I think City too. Compare that to the 5 sets we got last year for each of the two SH companies. The line is hopefully expanding to that size next year then and even if they want to, they can´t just have 30 sets of Batman on shelf when they barely have a dozen different Bat-villains at their disposal without resorting to new molds or obscure comics-only stuff.

I'll most likely be waiting a couple months anyway. At least til tax returns. Either way, like I said. I've already spent $20 on a Nightwing figure plus parts I have almost no use for (don't MOC a lot of vehicles, not a whole lot else that chopper is good for). Besides, if it was objectively not worth it there would be no custom minifig business.

For reasons you mentioned I could maybe see a Winter Soldier promo polybag. I have a knack for missing out on every single one of those, though. I'm still not confident Marvel will see a D2C set unless maybe they do a helicarrier, which I don't have a big interest in. I'd like to think there might be a store exclusive but I think we'd have at least heard a rumor of it by now.

Well, at some point DC will have to do some new animated shows anyway and a Justice League cartoon is rumored for a tie-in with the life-action movies. As long as the next cartoon won´t be Batman again we have good source material by default.

The rate things are going, just because DC has to do more animated shows eventually doesn't mean they'll stick around long enough to get sets based on them. As long as they're going through Cartoon Network, I'm not going to count on seeing much on that front.

You didn't like that Riddler? I love him. Way better than the previous ones we've gotten from Lego, plus worth it just for the green bowler hat.

Agents of Shield set? I never watched the show but what could you even do as a set for that show? The huge jetplane that only works as a 60-100 set if at all? Some regular looking cars? Agreed on AoS. There's just not really much to go with there since it's not like the big marketable characters show up in show anyway. And that's what I (and others, I think) are thinking/hoping with the evergreen status. I'd love to see Superheroes expand to get as much (or even half as much) retail space as Star Wars and City.

For Agents of Shield they could easily do a small $20-$30 set. Coulson's flying car Lola, a classic red sports car Shield flying car. And maybe 3 figs? Coulson, Skye or May and a Centipede / Extremist soldier. (Or maybe Blizzard if we want to go comic book'ish?) Besides you have to figure AoS will have some sort of cameo in one of the upcoming movies?

And evergreen just means that a theme has become a regular recurring theme with no scheduled or anticipated EOL for the core theme. Yes City and Star Wars are always on the shelf. But Castle and Pirates are also considered Evergreen. While I think Superheroes is closer to Star Wars than Castle in terms of production and scheduling, I don't think it means we will see a huge jump in the number of sets out at once. All it means is we don't need to be asking "is this theme done? Will we ever get more?" Like the poor inhabitants over in the LotR threads. We may see sub themes come and go. We may not see stuff every single wave. It may not always be Marvel or DC (Kinda curious how TMNT didn't get lumped in with SH?) but we will see more costumed super heroes for the forseable future.
