Dr Leg O Brick Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I'm here in the UK and I was wondering if anyone has seen any of the LEGO Marvel sets here in the UK? I know a few people have talked about it but I wasn't sure is any of them were from the UK so I thought I would ask. Any news about it? I've seen none, nor heard anything, Marvel wise, although Argos does have the Juniors set available, as well as the DC stuff on their website. Even in other countries, it seems, there not available as I've seen zero reviews, apart from the afore mentioned Juniors set. Lego usually do this, DC in January, Marvel in April/May from memory in the UK at least. Hope that helps. Quote
Numbuh1Nerd Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 As the discussion is on what the exclusive could be, I think I'll contribute. Hulk was a comic based character, a character who had already got a figure in the form of the big-fig Hulk. Jor-El was in the MOS film, although he didn’t have a huge part throughout the film, correct me if I'm wrong, I haven’t seen it. Based on this, and assuming it'll be Marvel, here are my guesses: Coulson, maybe a way to test the AOS market? Thanos, comic based, my guess is he'll have a cameo at the end of GOTG, like Avengers Civilian Logan, or something else X-Men related, vest, jeans, dog tags, cowboy hat (either Indiana Jones style or Lone Ranger), alternative hair Maybe classic Cyclops? Or 90s Mohawk Storm? Phoenix? You're pretty wrong, lol. Where most Superman stories have him done off with at the very beginning, this Jor-El was resurrected thanks to Kryptonian flash drive technology! He was a hologram the whole time, but was still pretty much alive. Thanos would require new molds I'm sure, so I doubt LEGO would do that. Classic Cyclops is sure to come in a set sooner or later. They just did (a) Phoenix last year, so that looks unlikely. I'm a little iffy on Coulson, as I'd expect them to put him in a set to cash in on his popularity, but I'd also expect Lego to break nerdy hearts everywhere by making him an exclusive. Quote
strangely Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Yeah my thoughts are Coulson, the winter soldier, Nick Fury. You know what? It would be odd If the ASM 2 Spiderman from SDcc was the exclusive. Then they wouldn't need to do any new printing as it would essentially be a re release.Just a thought! Out of the four mentioned above any would be amazing to see. I was so glad they did jor el as he was a huge part of the movie. Any ASM2 character is welcome. A better Spider-man is so unbelievably welcome I would put in multiple orders just to get a few. Likewise Gwen Stacy would be an awesome exclusive, and I'd almost prefer her more. I say that mainly because she's less likely to get an actual release any time soon since all the Spider-man sets are USM and she's not in that. I'm still holding out hope Lego will do a ASM2 set in the future. Maybe they'll do what they did for DKR and release a set next year (Wishful thinking I know, but I prefer to dream). Quote

Phoenix was actually 2 years ago believe it or not. Doesn't feel like that long ago. Maybe Maria Hill as an exclusive? Coulson is a possibility, and probably more likely than Hill. Quote
SoupOrFishOil Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Winter Soldier gets my vote. He'll be recognizable because of the new movie, and according to that German catalog, the sets will coincide with the movie's release (at least in the US). Coulson or Hill would be kind of odd exclusives because there really isn't anything about them that says "special LEGO figure". They are pretty generic if you don't know who they are. Same thing with Gwen Stacey. Any X-Men would be cool, but they aren't as mainstream as they used to be, and I imagine that Marvel/Disney would prefer that LEGO use the exclusive to push Captain America, The Avengers, or properties that they would make more money off of. We could see Spidey based on ASM2, but Winter Soldier makes more sense I think. Quote

Thanks for correcting me on MOS, I plan on seeing it soon, it's said to pretty good. IMO, I've seen a fantastic Thanos custom for sale using just a regular minifig head, and the gold Chima armour. As for Phoenix, she was one of those damn Comic Con figs, as they've done Azog and a few others CC exclusives with little to no modification in regular sets, just a year after there comic con appearance, I see it as a (admittedly small) possibility. Plus, they could do her dark Phoenix attire, crazy psychotic grin and all. In addition to my previous ideas, maybe a Sentinel figure? Minifig sized, like Nimrod and his Sentinels? Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I'm surprised no one here is even trying to assume what this year will bring in for SDCC. I may go, and if I do, I would just love a Squirrel Girl. No new molds, and she would require leg printing, and could do (or could go just as easily not) with back printing. She seems to qualify. But what I've realized is that discussion of future SDCC figures is pretty limited. They always appear with no wonder of who they might have been about a week before the Con, so there's no "rumor" to back up their discussion in a thread like this. And we can't really assume who we will get in a thread like "who would you like to see" because that's a thread where we discuss who we want to see, not who we think we'll see. And the starting a new thread would be very awkward. So here I am, throwing my dime around randomly. Quote

CorneliusMurdock Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I actually hope that Lego drops the SDCC "exclusive" this year. It's brought them nothing but negative attention and alienates their fan base by releasing awesome minifigures that most of us will never be able to own. Quote
Thelegomaster Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) A friend of mine who is one of the designers for LEGO, announced that there will be a Hal Jordan minifigure in 2015 Edited January 26, 2014 by Thelegomaster Quote

Freddy Bricker Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) I actually hope that Lego drops the SDCC "exclusive" this year. It's brought them nothing but negative attention and alienates their fan base by releasing awesome minifigures that most of us will never be able to own. Which is exactly why I wish they'd make Squirrel Girl. Recently, I've been looking into the Great Lake Avengers. No one seems to take them seriously, though for some reason, Squirrel Girl has remained popular. She appears in the cover of Deadpool getting married (was that released yet? I think it's an April comic) and she's the only GLA that appears in the Lego Marvel game. She isn't "popular" by any means, but she would make one hell of a figure. I think it's the figures they've been making that have brought them negative attention. The Phoenix is is probably how I've always recognized Jean Grey, so making her an exclusive was just dumb. Bizarro and Shazam were basically middle fingers to DC fans. "You won't be getting many non-Batman characters, but when you do, they'll either be movie based, or exclusives". Because that's exactly what the DC line needed. As for ASM Spiderman and Black suit Spiderman, I doubt they'd ever get put in sets, same goes for Black suit Sup's. If you're losing sleep over those figures, then you have unrealistic expectations for this theme. I feel that the Phoenix, Bizarro, Shazam, and Green Arrow were all such disappointments because we actually expected them to be in sets. Of course adding a hood to Shazam, and giving Bizarro the "sleepy heads" hair from the CMF line might fix the problem. But seeing how the line is going I doubt they'd do that. Getting a free raffle figure at SDCC can be fun so long as it isn't someone who needs to be in your collection. I just think Lego (or DC and Marvel) were really bad at prioritizing which figures to put in San Diego. Edited January 26, 2014 by Freddy Bricker Quote

korpen4444 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I know Hal is but why not call him Green Lantern then? Because there's John Stewart, Guy Gardner, Kyle Rayner, etc. Quote
strangely Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 (edited) I know Hal is but why not call him Green Lantern then? I believe they're just singling out which Green Lantern is to be used. Remember there are a ton of Green Lanterns. And telling us which one it is saves the Lego community from loudly asking which Green Lantern we'll get. Edited January 26, 2014 by strangely Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Oh what I'd do for a Kyle Rayner figure! I see this as sort of god news, but at the rate this theme is going, Lego will have to put in another 2-3 new figures to wow me. Also, this Green Lantern better appear in his own set, or side-by-side with Superman. I think I will literally throw a baby off of a balcony if Lego comes out with a Batman set including: Batman, Joker, Harley Quinn and (ew a new figure) Green Lantern! I think that next year we should be seeing at least 6 sets again. And I'm expecting Cyborg and Martian Manhunter (or Hawkgirl, or a Teen Titan) to appear in next years wave. I'm also hoping Lego raises the bar with these sets, I think I'll go crazy if they give Superman a car. Quote
TheBatstan Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Well with Superman vs Batman being moved so suddenly, we'd have to get some new variety sets for next year and as Super Heroes being described as an evergreen theme there should be no doubt. As for which GL, it's probably going to be either Hal in his New 52 look or John if they're feeling generous. Quote
Catanas Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 As for which GL, it's probably going to be either Hal in his New 52 look or John if they're feeling generous. I'd be quite happy with that, they didn't change his look all that much ^^ Was also quite happy with what they did with Star Sapphire in the New52 so might revisit my old Superhero piccies once I get a main computer up and running again! With regards to the next wave, I'm certainly looking forward to new characters, and hopefully a daily planet. Maybe they put it aside because it would be too much like the daily Bugle. I won't say I was disappointed with the current wave, but it didn't really grab me. Quote

And while agree that we'd probably never see Squirrel Girl inside an actual set, I would rather have nothing than TLG making an awesome design (of a character I would love to have, btw) that would be forever out of my price range. I don't know if that sounds selfish, but that's how I feel. I do plan on making a custom Squirrel Girl if I ever get the time. I think the right parts exist now that a little decal work would pull it off. Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Be sure to post that in the MCW, but do you mean an actual custom or a purist? I think the Chima fox was excellent for a Squirrel Girl. I feel Lego had her in mind when designing Furty. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Another good direction LEGO could go would be to do 'Preview' figs, like they did before with Batman, Superman, and Azog this year. Pick the coolest new figures that people can nerd out over, and give them a nice exclusive packaging or something like that. People can still sell them for a million dollars on Ebay since they have them early, but at least all of the sane people out there can wait until the sets come out to get them. That would even be a good marketing strategy when you've got something like Guardians of the Galaxy coming up, since it'll build excitement around that. Quote
