Freddy Bricker Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 But won't the GoTG sets be out by San Diego Comic Con? Also, I see that some people have been talking about the Marvel sets being up on Toys R Us, but aren't they meant to be a March release? If they are truly appearing now, then wouldn't that make the gap between the DC and Marvel sets little less than a month? Quote
The-Daryl Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I actually hope that Lego drops the SDCC "exclusive" this year. It's brought them nothing but negative attention and alienates their fan base by releasing awesome minifigures that most of us will never be able to own. I agree. Or if they HAVE to have "exclusives" make it the packaging ONLY, then release the figure within a couple of months in a widely available set (Like Azog). Quote
Sam892 Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 But won't the GoTG sets be out by San Diego Comic Con? Also, I see that some people have been talking about the Marvel sets being up on Toys R Us, but aren't they meant to be a March release? If they are truly appearing now, then wouldn't that make the gap between the DC and Marvel sets little less than a month? I think that by preview figs, it was meant 2015s preview figs. That's how it worked last year and the first year. At 2011 comic con we got shown 2012's Minifigure line up and got Superman as a preview figure. Last year the same with Azog he was given out in July, and was available in a set in December/ January. I've contact LEGO about how awful I think the SDCC exclusives are, and how it's basically just for America. LEGO tried to reason that Europe and the UK have both had exclusives too, they used the Olympic figures as an example. However the difference there is that the Olympic figures were made in larger quantities and were available for purchase. Plus they were not based on marketable franchises. On top of that they don't have such a crazy second hand value and there wasn't a whole 'Rigging scandal' around the Olympic CMF's. Surely this year LEGO must realise the damage these figures do regardless of how obscure of well know the character is. Quote
TheBatstan Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 After taking a look at all the 2014 Marvel sets, the Doc Ock set looks the best (with the Cap set in 2nd). It has everything I need. I never picked up the other Spidey sets so Ill get a Spider Man, a classic Doc Ock instead of Ozzy Octavius from the last set, a bank truck which can be useful for a number of situations and the Driver has a Bruce Wayne face which I need after my dog ate the last one. Quote
Piranha Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 As for ASM Spiderman and Black suit Spiderman, I doubt they'd ever get put in sets, same goes for Black suit Sup's. I disagree, Spidey's black suit is almost as famous as his red suit. And The Amazing Spider-man is a mega blockbuster film franchise. Most likely Disney just wanted TLG to push their lame USM rendition on everyone. Quote
CorneliusMurdock Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Be sure to post that in the MCW, but do you mean an actual custom or a purist? I think the Chima fox was excellent for a Squirrel Girl. I feel Lego had her in mind when designing Furty. That tail will be the reason I purchase that set. It's just too perfect. If I can find a torso that I like for her, I'l certainly try making it purist, otherwise I'll try making a decal myself. That reminds me that I have to start getting some supplies for that sort of thing so I can finish my wonder twins. Yes, the SDCC figs are nothing like the Olympic ones. Even though I don't live in Europe, I was able to get a few from a friend (Thanks, Foog!) and even now they don't command that high of a price on the secondary market. We'll just have to see if TLG comes to their senses this year. Cloney, that's exactly how it should be. Give out preview figures. They did the same thing with Bilbo only they made it a game for the kids. Quote
Hrafnblod Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 And while agree that we'd probably never see Squirrel Girl inside an actual set, I would rather have nothing than TLG making an awesome design (of a character I would love to have, btw) that would be forever out of my price range. I don't know if that sounds selfish, but that's how I feel. I do plan on making a custom Squirrel Girl if I ever get the time. I think the right parts exist now that a little decal work would pull it off. Selfish or not, I totally get it and agree. I don't really see how the SDCC figs are good for anybody except resellers. It might get a little hype and attention for the Lego booth at the show but it leaves a bad taste in a lot more people's mouths afterwards. Especially, like someone else pointed out, with the exclusive DC figs since we don't get jack for non-Batman characters in the actual sets. But won't the GoTG sets be out by San Diego Comic Con? Also, I see that some people have been talking about the Marvel sets being up on Toys R Us, but aren't they meant to be a March release? If they are truly appearing now, then wouldn't that make the gap between the DC and Marvel sets little less than a month? As has been mentioned, they're on Toys 'R' Us's site but not to actually order. And no one has reported finding them in stores. I don't think they're actually available yet. Probably in a few weeks, closer to mid-February. Quote

Most likely Disney just wanted TLG to push their lame USM rendition on everyone. Yes, I am very much aware of the popularity behind the black suit. Perhaps I should have given reasoning in my original post, my mistake. It's just that since Lego currently only makes sets "based" off of Ultimate Spiderman, it seems that they would've never given us a Black Suit Spidey since he barely appears in that suit in the show. And as for the Amazing Spiderman, I just got the feeling that Lego and Marvel would like to focus on other properties, even if Marvel owns the merchandising rights to said movie. You bring up good points, I just think that since USM barely shows the black suit, and Lego already has so much on their plate as far as sets to make for Marvel, I thought it was best they ended up as SDCC exclusives. He has appeared in the show, though. The sets don't really seem based off of specific scenes of the show (though I've only seen one season on Netflix), if they keep going with USM sets they might give us Iron Spider, Black Suit spidey, other variants that have popped up in the show. Won't get my hopes up though. Quote
strangely Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I disagree, Spidey's black suit is almost as famous as his red suit. And The Amazing Spider-man is a mega blockbuster film franchise. Most likely Disney just wanted TLG to push their lame USM rendition on everyone. Indeed, Disney is pushing USM. So long as it's on the air they're going to milk it for all they can get. The fact of the matter is cartoons don't have a great shelf life. USM is getting to its third season and has already done 52 episodes. Superhero cartoons don't last forever, most seem to make it to about 60 and then end. The truly popular ones get spin-offs or rebranded. More than likely Disney will do that within a couple of years. So undoubtedly they'll push as many products out while it's still hot. The fact that we got a non USM based set this year is sort of writing on the wall to me. Adding a non USM set into the mix tends to suggest to me they want an easy transition for when the show does end. It makes sense they aren't doing ASM2 sets right now, they have the rights to it and all future Spider-man movies. They can make sets off of that any time and it will remain in the public consciousness longer. But USM has a smaller lifespan for being profitable. On the bright-side though once that's done the door will be wide open for comic and movie sets. Quote
The-Daryl Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Iron Spider would be interesting. I'm a little surprised that with 3 more spidey's in this coming wave at least one wasn't (Since all it would be is different printing, and a Venom back piece with arms - no new molds). Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I would love an Iron Spider figure. And Hrafnblod, you better not get your hopes up to high, but a man can dream! And can someone please confirm the release date for the Marvel sets? They have a funky scheduling going on with those. Or so it seems. Quote
wesker Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 Thanks for correcting me on MOS, I plan on seeing it soon, it's said to pretty good. IMO, I've seen a fantastic Thanos custom for sale using just a regular minifig head, and the gold Chima armour. As for Phoenix, she was one of those damn Comic Con figs, as they've done Azog and a few others CC exclusives with little to no modification in regular sets, just a year after there comic con appearance, I see it as a (admittedly small) possibility. Plus, they could do her dark Phoenix attire, crazy psychotic grin and all. In addition to my previous ideas, maybe a Sentinel figure? Minifig sized, like Nimrod and his Sentinels? Another option for Phoenix is altering the colours on the figure like they did with Nolan Batman. He was a Comic Con exclusive in 2011 but we still got him in a retail set last year. The only difference was the figure was dark grey instead of black, but the print was the same and its intended to be the exact same costume as the Comic Con version. I think they can get around Phoenix in her classic green outfit if they replaced the yellow parts with gold (like Iron Man and C-3PO) and possibly a different shade of green. Maybe even change the hair to either a new colour (dark red) or a different piece (like Emma Frost or Viper's in the video game) Quote

March-April is what was being tossed around but with them popping up on retailers' website listings we don't really know for sure. Definitely a bit weird, but I imagine March-April is the 'street date' but we may see them in the wild before then-- last year's castle theme was supposed to launch in August but started popping up in May/June, for example. Hrafnblod Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 If it means anything, I've seen a lot of Juniors sets in store. -Sci Which stores? Also, where are Juniors sets located in stores, generally? Are they on the "lego aisle" or are they usually in a section for younger kids' toys? On that note, did we ever get the US price for the Juniors Batcave? Quote
mulletwing Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 The Junior Batcave in Australia is at $35 in Big W, $40 elsewhere. So I presume you guys in the US will get it at like $20. Quote
CM4Sci Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 *I* haven't seen them, but I saw a few pics of the sets in a store. -Sci Quote
gedren_y Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I am of the opinion that the March release date has to do with MegaCon. As a major fan convention, Marvel and DC should be there. It is possible we could see the trailers for Guardians of the Galaxy there, and if so, we may also get to see the Lego sets. Dare I type the "E" word? Speculation . . . gotta give it up. Quote
