Thelegomaster Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 At least we didn't get a Groot like this: *snip* Good lord! Groot is terrifying!!!! I would rather have some sort of like goblin mold for groot Quote

gedren_y Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) New katanas have square guards- they have for a little while now. Actually, the square guard long blade is called a shamshir. This and this are katanas. It's not ideal, but it's not really any different than Yoda or that little house goblin or whatever it is from Harry Potter. Dobby? I forget, not at all familiar with that franchise, I just recall his figure form being "thicker" than pictures I'd seen of the movie character. Rocket looks pretty good regardless. Likewise with Groot's size, he varies a lot. It's a little bit of a bummer to not get his "standard" slightly-larger-than-human size, but I don't mind giant Groot. I'm with you here. An easy way for lego to make little Groot is a printed version of the minifigure statuette, like the voodoo doll Jack Sparrow. My only real want for the actual character is Yondu. If he isn't in the small set, I likely will pass on most of these sets, and just Bricklink the parts I want for other things. It's adapted from a film. I keep seeing people criticize the duck, but that's not really Lego's fault. Blame WB if you don't like the Penguin using a duck boat. I think it's a fun throwback. That is my favorite of the Batman movies. Mainly for the fact that we got a truly insane Catwoman and the very disgusting Penguin. Those two haven't been characterized so well since. montgocloud Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I like the size of Groot, but are those dark green bricks on his arms and legs? If it is then that's... weird. In my opinion, Groot should be made only of shades of brown. But, maybe there's a story context for the splashes of green, though I don't see any in the trailer. Quote

It's a 2 minute trailer, what do you expect to see for a 2 hour long movie?! You can see Groot has some moss growing on him in the trailer. Maybe when he grows huge the moss grows too. Or maybe he will be infected or something It's also on a little Hasbro Figurine Why is Groot so big? Facepalm, If we would know that a lot of questions would be answered. Quote
KingPixels Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Why is Groot so big? This has been answered countless times on previous pages. Groot can change size by absorbing wood. Quote
strangely Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 (edited) This has been answered countless times on previous pages. Groot can change size by absorbing wood. Yeah I keep on seeing that question repeatedly and I get the impression that some people are referring to why in that situation did Groot get bigger, like an in story reason for why he's using that power. It's less of How and more of Why. Which, by looking at the set it is a little confusing. I mean he seems to be fighting normal sized people, so I don't know why being the height of a building in needed in this situation. Though I'm sure it will make sense when the movie comes out. LegendsOfNinjago Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I'm really skeptical about getting the Martian Man Hunter, I mean it's free with 75$ but I'm wondering whether or not there will be set with him later this year. Quote

I would say based on other years that we won't see Martian Manhunter for a very long time. The past two years we've seen these figures nowhere outside the promo. The regular Minifigure Hulk won't appear in another set and Jor el won't either. Also since a LEGO are calling it an exclusive I don't think they have any plans to release he again in the near future. Quote
strangely Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 More imposing? He's already taller than a normal person and made of wood, that's pretty imposing to begin with. I'm sure in the movie it makes sense but here it seems like overkill when there's only two villains in the set. I would have preferred a normal sized Groot, but I suppose being mostly brick built actual height can be adjusted. I'm really skeptical about getting the Martian Man Hunter, I mean it's free with 75$ but I'm wondering whether or not there will be set with him later this year. I doubt we'll see this version in a set any time soon or ever. I don't recall any of the previous exclusives making it into a set. Unless they decide to throw him into a comic set I don't see him being included until he makes an appearance in a movie and I don't even think he supposed to be in Batman VS. Superman (Though based on how many characters they're shoving into that movie it's possible). If you want him then this is probably your best opportunity, otherwise you might be waiting a long time. Hrafnblod Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 Actually, the square guard long blade is called a shamshir. This and this are katanas. Well, bricklink can call it what they want but it's nothing like a real samshir. And the mold is used interchangeably with katanas- new ninjago figs and Leo from the ninja turtles use the square guard ones. I'm fairly sure the smallest set is confirmed to have Star-Lord, a Sakaaran and a Nova Corps dude. 99% sure there's no Yondu. We don't really know how big a role he's going to have in the film, either way- my guess is that it's a smaller part than Korath, who we also didn't get. That is my favorite of the Batman movies. Mainly for the fact that we got a truly insane Catwoman and the very disgusting Penguin. Those two haven't been characterized so well since. I'm partial to Batman Begins, but that one's definitely a good one too. I kinda think the penguin boat is Lego throwing us AFOLs a bone, since most kids won't have ever seen Penguin's duck boat. Evidently a number of AFOLs on here haven't either, though! I'm really skeptical about getting the Martian Man Hunter, I mean it's free with 75$ but I'm wondering whether or not there will be set with him later this year. They'd never give us a promo fig in a set later that same year. Most likely won't get him at all, at least not for a long time. If you want him, you'd better pick him up while you can. Quote

Those two haven't been characterized so well since. Wow, your favorite?? Props to you man, because I'm a huge Tim Burton fan and would say that Keaton's my Batman (Kevin Conroy is a very close second). I couldn't say that Batman Returns is my favorite Batman movie though. I'd have to go with The Dark Knight. You can't beat the the Batman/Joker chemistry. It's the closest we've ever come to Alan Moore and Frank Miller's Batman on the big screen. It was the first time that I realized that the Batman's greatest foe was the Joker, not because the Joker killed Jason Todd or crippled Barbara Gordon but because the Joker is complete chaos. Batman is the greatest detective ever but not even he can figure out who or what the Joker is all about because the Joker's unpredictable. He does the exact opposite of what you'd imagine. "Some men just want to watch the world burn." - Alfred Pennyworth (Michael Caine) I also have to mention that Burton's Penguin and Catwoman are very inaccurate compared to the comics. While I like Burton's portrayal of Penguin, Burton's origin story of Catwoman gives me quite a laugh. Gotta love when Selina Kyle goes into her apartment after falling out of a 30-story building and goes berserk. How do you show the world that your pissed off? Throw your stuffed animals into the sink's garbage disposal. I love Pee-wee Herman's cameo as Penguin's dad too. I do hope LEGO continues to look into the past to bring us some more old Batman elements into their sets. I'll easily take an Adam West Batmobile or even better--a Tim Burton batmobile! Quote
Suspsy Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Why WOULDN'T Groot choose to make himself bigger---and thereby stronger and more durable---against a formidable opponent like Nebula? If you have an advantage in combat against an opponent, you employ it. Only fools believe in "fighting fairly." Quote
Numbuh1Nerd Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 My favorite live-action Bat-films are Batman Begins, Batman Returns, The Dark Knight, Batman, Batman Forever, Batman and Robin, and The Dark Knight Rises in that order. Well, Rises and Robin swap spots sometimes, and I have yet to see the Adam West movie, but still. I hope Lego looks more to the comics and tv shows than the movies, though, as the movies have never managed to get it quite right. If they did some more Batman: The Animated Series stuff, we'd be golden. Although I'd prefer them go for the Justice League Unlimited than Batman: TAS Also, I'm still holding out for a possible people-scale Groot. I don't like the idea of having my Guardians standing in front of a fifty-foot teammate. Quote
TheBatstan Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Groot should've been a Hagrid-esque size, it's accurate and it could open the door to medium size figs that are not meant to be big-figs like Colossus, Kingpin etc. Quote
Suspsy Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Groot only looks like he's 14-20 feet tall in proportion to RR and Nebula. I think if Lego had gone the minifigure route with him, there'd be just as many complaints about how he's too small. Perhaps somewhere down the line there will be a smaller version as a promotion or a LegoShop exclusive, but I doubt it'll happen soon. Quote
OneStudShort Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Why couldn't they use the "toy story woody" legs and arms and a tall head on Groot. How are you going to display him with the minifigures now and I thought the hulk was to big. Quote
korpen4444 Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 However Lego did Groot, it's fine. Y'Know, seeing that GL "Lite", I'm thinking whatever the exclusive that's coming this year, It'll come with him. On one part, I'm excited. On another, afraid for my wallet. Quote
montgocloud Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Another curiosity is whether the Milano will come with a potted plant to represent Groot. In the comics, this is how he travels with the team, so I imagine it'll be the same in the film. Then, you could fit all of the Guardians in the ship! Quote
OneStudShort Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I just bought the new Hulk with purple pants. Looks very cool next to the one with tan pants. I hope they make abomination so I can put purple pants hulk next to him. I got him off of ebay so I hope he is the real deal. it says lego on the bottom. So i think I'm good to go. Quote
ReZourceman Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Love the Cap VS Hydra set! here is my review; Red Skull's head strikes me as being a pretty good sub for a minifig sized Red Hulk, so I'll be doing that soon. Need more Hydra goons too! Quote
