Numbuh1Nerd Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I agree. I wish the X-Men movie would have done suits more in line with the comics instead of the matching pleather unitard/jacket combo. Even in The Avengers movie, Cap was the only one wearing more of a costume, explained away by Coulson as something "old-fashioned". Unfortunately, comics are pricing themselves right out of existence. What kid has $4 for a comic nowadays. Why, back in my day, I would hump 5 miles up a snow covered hill to school and back every day; and comics cost a quarter! The suit they had prepared for Wolverine for The Wolverine looked great! I don't see why they don't go with that! In the Avengers's defense, the only two members of the team that really have costumes in the books are Cap and Hawkeye. Everything else is armor or a uniform or a straight-up transformation. I do wish they would've done a little more for Hawkeye's outfit, maybe adding something similar to the mask or some equivalent to the little feather patterned skirt-thing. As for the price, I don't think $4 is TOO bad. It's certainly harder to buy a whole stack, but keeping up with one or two books isn't that hard. There just aren't a lot of places to get comics, and most people just don't seem to appreciate them. Reading comics requires commitment of the highest degree. You have to spend four dollars every week or so to get the next chapter in a story that's who knows how long. Not to mention the way DC built the New 52 so that you have to buy every title to really understand what's going on. I tried keeping up with Teen Titans and Batman and Robin, but I couldn't do it. Now I just try to read the trade paperbacks when I can get my hands on them. Quote

If you don't have to read them on their day of release, and just want to pick and choose stories and such, the digital versions of the comics can be much cheaper. Like $1-2 per. Steep but still a lot better than $4. Most of the publishers use Comixology.com Quote

ReZourceman Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Wow. Hulk's Lab Smash is absolutely awesome. Review here; Excellent, excellent minifigures. Really puts the Spidey-Doc-Ock set to shame with one very good figure and two really boring ones, this set has five ABSOLUTELY superb figures. Quote
B-Lister Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) Will the Martian Manhunter be available through the online store? If so, the Smash Lab will be moved up the list. Edited February 26, 2014 by Mister Blisterfists Quote
Rinzler Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Ye it £50 in the UK which is basically the steamroller and a small item. Actually, I'm buying the Hulk Lab Smash and Spider-Trike VS Electro Quote
korpen4444 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Steamroller and Riddler chase for me. Will the Martian Manhunter be available through the online store? Yes. I don't see what others see in the Smash Lab. I don't like MODOK, TM creeps me the hell out, I may get this set JUST for the Heroes. I'm not really feeling it. Quote
B-Lister Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 This set is based of the Avengers Assemble cartoon! Well so says the box anyway Missed that part. But the toon is closer in look to the comics, so it's all cool! Steamroller and Riddler chase for me. Yes. I don't see what others see in the Smash Lab. I don't like MODOK, TM creeps me the hell out, I may get this set JUST for the Heroes. I'm not really feeling it. I don't have many Marvel sets yet. It offers two heavy hitters in Thor and Hulk. I think Falcon adds some extra value as well. Then we have the Villains. No hero is worth his salt unless he has good villains. At this point, anything that isn't Loki, is a breath of fresh air. MODOK wouldn't be my first choice, but the figure is sweet. Taskmaster is another very solid choice (though Zemo would have been sweeter). For me, its five figures I didn't have. I like the X-Men set but I already have a Magneto and Wolverine. I would go with the steamroller, but the only figure I want there is Damian/Robin. Quote
korpen4444 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 What about Batgirl? My main problem is that while TM and MODOK are good villains, Their appearances creep me out. I take that into consideration when looking at something. "Do I feel comfortable around it?" I only have the Doc Ock ambush set, so I'm looking at getting Cap, Thor, Falcon, Hulk, and IM for a Justice League vs. Avengers battle. Since it's cheaper to collect DC heroes than Marvel Heroes, I try to collect DC first, then get the MARVEL sets as I see fit. Plus, I still want to collect this year's Hero Factory, Star Wars, Police, a couple of Friends sets, and a few sets from last year's Chima, Star Wars, MARVEL, and HF. So I have a lot to do before buying these MARVEL sets. But, I can't go without Joker and Flash any longer! Quote
B-Lister Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) Nope. It was a mistake to ruin Oracle. My Batgirl is blonde. I also want Flash, but, just like Robin, I'll just buy the figure. I have no need for another Batman, or Riddler. As for creepy villains, I find the mark of a good villain is badassery or how scary they look. Both Taskmaster and MODOK pass the test. Um, the real Batgirl is Barbara Gordon. She's useless as Oracle(and booorrring). Who wants a figure that JUST sits in a wheelchair? Xavier can pass because he's Leader of the X-men(technically). I think BTB Batman is a figure every DC fan should get. That style suit(B:TAS throwback) will be the suit I'm gonna use mainly. Riddler's awesome, and if you don't want the character, use the parts to make a custom villain or whatnot. I just feel uncomfortable around creepy stuff. It's nothing against the character, it's just how I feel. Either way, you like what you will, but I just can't get the appeal of the Lab Smash. Also, if I want Stephanie Brown, I'll just ask for Spoiler, thank you. Edited February 26, 2014 by korpen4444 Quote
B-Lister Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) "Real"? What makes her Real? She's not the first. And she was Oracle longer than she was Batgirl. She may be the 'current' but that doesn't count for much, look at Robin. She did more as Oracle than she ever did as Batgirl. And Stephanie definitely earned and served the mantle well. I respect your preference, but you don't need to be so condescending. Oracle was far from useless, and an excellent role model for those of us who are disabled. I distinguished Stephanie as "My" Batgirl, not as the "one, true Batgirl". I stated a preference. You effectively replied with "You're dumb, what you like is dumb, it is beneath my notice, and I must re establish what is right." You didn't use those exact words, but your tone suggested it, whether you intended it to or not. I'd like to think it was just poor wording on your part to state a preference, as I can see no reason that I upset you. And you are forgiven, but some consideration for why my opinion may differ would be appreciated. Edited February 26, 2014 by Mister Blisterfists Quote
korpen4444 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) Barbara WAS the first. Then Joker killed her legs, and she became known as Oracle. But I don't like Oracle 'cause she sits at a computer most of the time. The only part of her story as Oracle that I like, was when she got to walk again. It's in some comic. I just don't get why one would like the replacement more than the original. I realize it's a preference, but I like Babs as Batgirl, or as Com. Gordon(BB). Steph is good as Spoiler, and that's my preference. You took what I said the wrong way. I wasn't trying to be "condescending". I wasn't saying this: "You're dumb, what you like is dumb, it is beneath my notice, and I must re establish what is right." At all. I like Stephanie too, but I think Lego made a better choice making Barbara Batgirl. She is the most iconic. And I'd probably skip the set if they put in Steph as Batgirl. I just don't know the character that well, and so I just gravitate to a character I know and love more. Anyway, you say potato, I say potatto, and I respect that. Friends? B-Lister Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) Betty Kane was the First Batgirl. As for iconic, what makes an icon? Exposure, marketing. Perhaps if DC marketed her, Steph would be the iconic one. Kind of like how to many, Wally and John Stewart are the only Flash and Green Lantern they know. And they're no less valid than Barry and Hal despite DC's continued insistence that we accept Barry and Hal (I won't). And no harm done. Edited February 26, 2014 by Mister Blisterfists Quote
korpen4444 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Betty Kane was the First Batgirl. She was? Huh, I never heard of her. I guess I have to do some more Bat-research. Wait a minute, she was in Young Justice. Huh, I would have never guessed she was a hero. Quote

Huh, I would have never guessed she was a hero. Just use Wikipedia. That's what @Mister Blisterfists probably did. Barbara Gordon/Batgirl has played a more significant role as Batgirl than any other character including Betty Kane and Stephanie Brown. Yes, she was the Oracle but she was Batgirl in the 1960s Batman series, Batman: The Animated Series, The New Adventures of Batman, and played a more significant role as Batgirl in Young Justice than Stephanie did as well. She's also played a more significant role as Batgirl than any other character in the comics. Know your stuff before you blab it out. I better shut up about this useless information though. Just saw all of the Marvel sets at my local target last night. I decided to just pick up the Tumbler poly for now. It's amazing how a small bag of LEGO can make a crummy day so much better. strangely Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 You're both right technically. Betty Kane was the first version of Batgirl created for the comics, however thanks to changes in continuity her Batgirl persona was erased and replaced with Flamebird. So history was rewritten so that Barbara Gordon was the first Batgirl after all. Though in the few seconds it took me to type this they might have changed the continuity again. I think Lego ultimately gave us the Barbara Gordon version of Batgirl because she's the most well known (She's had a lot of TV exposure, so she is admittedly the most recognizable Batgirl). And I assume just like they did with the Robin minifigures we'll see a new version every so often. So I'd think Stephanie Brown will appear eventually (I mean we have three different Robins, I can only assume one day we'll have that many Batgirl's). Quote

Yes Barbara is the most recognizable Batgirl out there, so it was a smart move by Lego. Maybe instead of multiple BGs we'll see Spoiler and Black Bat. Then I can make funnies using "Spoiler Alert" as a joke. Quote

B-Lister Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) Just use Wikipedia. That's what @Mister Blisterfists probably did. Actually, I am just a fan of annoying minutae. First in story doesn't change publication history. But publication history is no marker for popularity. I am a big Bat Fan, and I was riding very high on the excellent storytelling during the period between Final Crisis and Flashpoint. The writing is still pretty good, but I just don't care for the changes they made to the Bat, Flash, and Titans families/History when they rebooted. Trust me, my geek cred is not in doubt. I know my Bat history, and my opinion is that Barbara's contributions as Oracle outweigh her contributions as Batgirl by a factor of Ten. Your mileage may vary, and my opinion is no more valid than your own. I am sure your love for certain lesser known characters is also as strong, especially considering your name.
