korpen4444 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) Um, I'm not "scared" of a child's toy figure. Just some things I don't like. Is that so hard to respect? That second pic (in the above post) is creepy. I actually don't see the problem in clone faces. Of course, that might be 'cause I'm crazy. Either way, that's my preference. And you have yours. Now the matters over. Edited February 26, 2014 by korpen4444 Quote
Moon_Knight Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) I think Lego ultimately gave us the Barbara Gordon version of Batgirl because she's the most well known (She's had a lot of TV exposure, so she is admittedly the most recognizable Batgirl). And I assume just like they did with the Robin minifigures we'll see a new version every so often. So I'd think Stephanie Brown will appear eventually (I mean we have three different Robins, I can only assume one day we'll have that many Batgirl's). I agree. I think another reason is because of her reboot for the New 52 series. I think we're going to see a lot of New 52 minifigs in the future. We've seen New 52 Nightwing and Martian Manhunter, and you could say that the Aquaman minifig was based off of the New 52 design because of the long swoopy hair piece. The new costume for the LEGO Green Lantern LED flashlight also looks like the New 52 Green Lantern's. Perhaps we'll see a New 52 Cyborg in the future (fingers crossed). I would like to see a New 52 Wonder Woman and Batman too. Superman's Man of Steel costume looks fine to me. I don't see why people consider the Flash minifig to be based off of the New 52 Flash though. The New 52 Flash has lightning all over his costume. Maybe somebody can help me understand this... B-Lister Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I agree that they seem to be moving away from classic outfits. It is my hope, however that they cut classic fans a break from time to time. Quote
Borex Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Many of us see a minifig's ability to be creepy or evil as a very good thing. Here's to hoping LEGO keeps that up. I finally have some sets to buy after what I found to be verrrrry disappointing Spiderman and Batman sets. Hear hear!! To more superheroes and villains! To the wellknown and the not wellknown!! To the sexy and the creepy!! And at last, to more comicbased designs (not really hating on moviebased, well ok a little haha). Quote
korpen4444 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I think GL is classic-comic-based. And BTB makes a good New 52 Batman. Quote
B-Lister Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 We're talking about the LED right? Not the movie uniform from the SDCC exclusive? The LED looks like classic, but so does Flash, despite the new typeface on the box. Quote
korpen4444 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 In regards to the creepy thing: Hey if it was Croc or Zsasz, I don't mind creepy. Heck I'd snap at any DC villain. But MARVEL, hmm. I don't like TM cause of the mask(I'm not a fan of skeletons), but othher than that, he's a cool figure. MODOK's just plain weird though. I think the problem is, Lego tried to make him like a traditional figure, instead of the freak he really is. So he looks even more freakish as a minfigure. They could've designed him better is what I'm saying. We're talking about the LED right? Not the movie uniform from the SDCC exclusive? The LED looks like classic, but so does Flash, despite the new typeface on the box. We are talking about the LED figure. Quote
B-Lister Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Taskmaster reminds me a bit of Deathstroke. Mostly due to preferance of weapons. But I am just starting to get into Marvel (I have been reading DC for 20 years) so I don't know if it ends there. Quote
gedren_y Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 To all that discussion about the various Batgirls: I remind you of Barbara Wilson, niece of Alfred Pennyworth, in the Batman & Robin movie. Big departure from the DC universe, but she is one to consider. Quote
korpen4444 Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 new purple pants hulk variant that everyone has wanted, with a new face print new Thor variant new falcon new Task master new Modok I understand that, but the build is, meh to me. It could be more. Like a mix between the Doc-Ock set, the Hellicarrier build, and this. But that's just me. Quote

Though, considering the films that immediately followed (Steel, and Catwoman), it's practically Shakespeare. Edited February 26, 2014 by Mister Blisterfists Quote
strangely Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 First in story doesn't change publication history. Of course not, nobody said it did. But in story continuity is important too. So at the end of the day though both statements were true, publication date said Betty, DC canon said Barbara. You can have it both ways, so hooray! I think ultimately I'd prefer Stephanie Browns first minifigure appearance to be Spoiler. I would rather she get a unique persona rather than be just another Batgirl. That was my problem with the Tim Drake Robin we got, he's my favorite version of Robin, but ultimately many people can't even tell him apart from from the other Robin variations we've gotten. He just ended up being another Robin variation. Red Robin would have been more unique. Quote
B-Lister Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) Valid points, but it feels like a demotion to a character who earned her place. (That opinion applies to both Barbara and Stephanie). Just my opinion. And one DC clearly doesn't share. Edited February 26, 2014 by Mister Blisterfists Quote

Now the matters over. No one disrespected you. We, like you, enjoy voicing our opinions on public forums. You explained yourself well enough and that's cool but from our earlier conversations, I wonder if you are just a bit biased against Marvel (which is a totally valid opinion, btw)? Marvel Avengers and GotG are really saving the super hero line(s) for me, this year. I've been heavily critical toward TLG for the newest Batman and Spiderman sets, so I must gives props when they are due. Decent builds with bases, recognizable vehicles (or least in a non-descript way, like the Hydra "tank") and great minifigs who are all either brand new or an alternate version. Kudos to LEGO for these sets! Quote
B-Lister Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 (edited) I bought the Batcopter/Nightwing/Man Bat set. I would rather have a Blue Nightwing, but a Red Nightwing is better than No Nightwing. Man Bat is a great figure, and the Copter is a great build. Mr. Elijah Timms Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 Picked up the Avengers Lab and Penguin sets today. Absolute home runs in the figure department. Obviously comic Thor and the purple pants are the stars of the show, but Taskmaster's great, and Falcon is easily the diamond in the rough here. Awesome fig. And the build's not as boring as it looks. Nice play set with a fair amount of playability built into it. Quote

Kudos to LEGO for these sets! I don't hate MARVEL, I just like DC more. For me, DC has figures that interest me more, and I can make uses for having a variety of Batmans. I want the Cap set, and the Electro set for the lightning pieces, and also the Bank Truck for the Guard(I have no guards yet). I want Thor and Hulk cause I missed out, but the rest is just, meh. I'm not really into the GOTG though they were cool on USM I guess. See for me, this is how I see the following sets: Batman vs. Penguin: Cool minifigs(though the characters aren't new), nice duck, penguin minions! Manbat Attack: Need Nightwing, so I'll pick it up. Manbat is okay, Batcopter is sweet! Riddler Chase: Need a Riddler, got to have the Flash, I must have the BTB suit!(It reminds me of my favorite Batman, the Kevin Conroy one), Batmobile's sweet, Riddler's dragster is okay for the price, seeing as it's bundled with an awesome Batmobile. Steamroller: Need Joker, and this one's awesome. Joker Goons are always nice, need Babs and Damian. Steamroller is neat, Batplane is good for me cause I don't have a Batwing(I suck. I know). Lab Smash: 3/5 great figs(Thor will always be singing to me, and MODOK, well, see above.), meh build. Could have been more Lab-ey Bank Heist: 2/3 good figs, need a Cop for my SH(I made some customs but still), okay Bank Truck. Spider-Trike: 1/2 good figs, parts are nice, the Trike could be better. Spider-Copter: Should have been a SHIELD Copter. 2/3 good figs, a pretty cool Bigfig, some nice features, but pretty meh overall. Hydra Tank: Best one, hands down to me. 3/3 good figs, an awesome bike, and an awesome vehicle. Milano Rescue: It's okay, I can't really say more until we see the figs more clearly. But, the Milano looks good. Rocket Rescue: Groot's pretty big, Rocket is okay, The others I don't know about. Build looks meh. The final set(seen in catalog posted a couple pages back): Okay Nova Corps fighter, can't say about anything else. Black Bird: Easy get for me. 5/5 great figs, a little unsure about the Blackbird itself, Sentinel is okay. So, yeah, I just like DC more. Quote
B-Lister Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 I will likely grab the Hydra tank, I want a more comic styled Cap. Quote
The-Daryl Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I agree that they seem to be moving away from classic outfits. It is my hope, however that they cut classic fans a break from time to time. They did with the Truck Heist set (including a "classic" Doc Ock) that set SAYS it's based on Ultimate Spider-Man but he's way different looking in that show. Hopefully the trend continues and we get a set or three a year with the classics :) Quote
B-Lister Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I was referring to the DC switch to the New 52 outfits, but wouldn't mind seeing a few Classic Kirby/Ditko/Romita designs for the Marvel figures. Quote
Moon_Knight Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Yeah, it appears that we're getting New 52 outfits for DC sets and classic outfits for Marvel with John Byrne's Wolverine and the classic Storm and Magneto. They did with the Truck Heist set (including a "classic" Doc Ock) that set SAYS it's based on Ultimate Spider-Man but he's way different looking in that show. Hopefully the trend continues and we get a set or three a year with the classics :) Good point. That's for sure the old school Steve Ditko Doc Ock. Quote
B-Lister Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 All hope is not lost. Flash, as you stated earlier, is classic. I hope they maintain a balance. I can handle a mix, especially with the heavy hitters. But if we ever get so lucky to get third or fourth stringers (I am forever an optimist), I prefer to defer to the iconic, over the modern. Quote
strangely Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 All hope is not lost. Flash, as you stated earlier, is classic. Actually I think he's the new 52 version. The insignia on the torso features yellow around the circle and the lightning bolts on his mask are consistent with his new look. However Lego Batman 2 features the classic design. Quote
B-Lister Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 (edited) But the lines on the new 52 outfit aren't present. Still, you may be right. The lightning bolt 'belt' is the New 52 style. Barry's costume remained unchanged from 1985-2011. Edited February 27, 2014 by Mister Blisterfists Quote
