strangely Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 The Damian Robin didn't get much of a change to his outfit, if at all between the Real DCU and the New 52. That's true. But it is still consistent with how DC is currently portraying the character. That's what I'm trying to say, DC decides how they want to portray their characters for the year and hands out their standards to the merchandisers. Quote
B-Lister Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Well, that character hasn't been 'current' for exactly a year today. Quote

TheBrickPal Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) I hope I'm not the only one disappointed in the many Spider-Man sets we are getting. Not only is the Marvel subtheme of Super Heroes going with the same character over and over, but some of these don't even make sense. Spider Copter? Spider Trike? Can't he just sling webs? Of course, this is only my opinion, but I'd really like more variety than just Avengers and Spider-Man. X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy are a good start. Fantastic Four, anyone? Of course, this is only my opinion, but I'd really like more variety than just Avengers and Spider-Man. X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy are a good start. Fantastic Four, anyone? I agree the Spider Trike is 100% pointless, but I somewhat disagree about the helicopter. Don't get me wrong the color scheme is terrible and the build rather underwhelming. But I actually think it's somewhat practical for certain situations. It would be useful in areas where there's not many places to swing from. And I think it's sort of a reasonable vehicle to have in the GG chase that's being portrayed in the set. I mean if the Green Goblin flew above the buildings then there wouldn't really be a way to catch him. And I suppose Spider-man can only swing so fast, so a vehicle might be needed to catch the Goblin on his glider. Again it's only really helpful in a few situations, but at least it can make sense in the context of the set. It would have been much better if it conformed to the Shield color scheme though. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I too agree that the Spider Trike is awful (and not just because it's a Spider-Man vehicle, but because it's a terrible-looking vehicle), but the other two are ok. What LEGO really could have done to make them better would have been to come out with some Spidey variants. It doesn't help that the figure they're using now looks crappy, so to get him over and over is really a shame. Either a redesign or a few different costume variants would have really added to the Spidey sets. Quote
strangely Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Yeah, the reuse of that same Spider-man almost always hurts what I think of the sets. It is a pretty awful variation and surprisingly isn't even a good match for USM. I mean having watched a couple of episodes I can say that the colors shouldn't be that bright. Just changing the blue to a different shade would be a vast improvement. And honestly even the webbing and eyes don't match the cartoon that well. I mean it sucks even as a representation of that costume. And it's weird that this is pretty much the only character in this theme that is literally the same each time he appears. Honestly if they don't change him next year I might just not buy any more Spider-man sets (At this point I'm almost exclusively buying them for the villains). Quote
Ultron Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) Am I the only one who doesn't think the spider trike is that awful? Yes, It's impractical but it's not so bad. I would've preferred the spider buggy! I love the model from the video game. It's so cute Edited February 28, 2014 by Luna Lovegood Quote
strangely Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 If it had been the spider buggy I would have bought it instantly. The trike on the other hand just bothers me, from the way it functions to the fact that it's not really a trike. I've yet to find a single thing I like about it. I can get over a vehicle not being practical, but this one just bothers me in every other way. Quote

I just like it better than the spider cycle we got in the venom set. I'll take a buggy though but no spider vehicles after that! Quote
strangely Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I'll take a buggy though but no spider vehicles after that! Yes, now that you've mentioned the spider buggy I really want to find the pieces and build one myself. I like how it looks in game and I enjoy the history behind it in the comics (I'm amused by the role it plays). Unfortunately I don't think all those pieces in those colors exist (Though a lot of them do). And of course the webbing would be difficult to replicate. This is the big problem with these games, they always contain massive amount of characters and vehicles that will never be in actual sets. Quote

Part of me believes the buggy will appear in a set though. Spidey is running out of viable options! Plus it's the only one of his vehicles in the game we haven't gotten I think. gedren_y Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 IIRC, the Spider Buggy was never Peter's idea. A car company created it and offered it to him for a promotional deal. I don't think Peter ever got the hang of driving it. It was intended to be ridiculous, but the toys created from the design sold so Marvel kept it. Now we have other ridiculous Spider-man vehicles. Suspsy Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 As far as I'm concerned, Lego Flash is Wally West, who should never have been replaced by Allen, period. Quote

Moon_Knight Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) You're joking right? Wally replaced Barry who replaced Jay Garrick. Know your comics. Barry Allen replaces Wally West in Rebirth. Although West is still considered a Flash, Allen is THE Flash of the JLA in Blackest Night which takes place right after Rebirth. So yeah, he does replace Wally West. I guess I could advice you to follow your own instructions but that would be kind of douchey, huh? Edited February 28, 2014 by Moon_Knight Quote

Original Comics, and in most TV series, Barry Allen is the second to take the Flash name, the first to don the cowl. That's how it is. I mean, Wally's awesome, but my Wally is either Barry's nephew(which makes no sense if he's "replaced" by his uncle), or Barry doesn't exist at all(DCAU). So um, DC, having Barry replace his nephew is the most stupid thing I've ever heard. Edit: Just looked it up. I was still right. Wally replaced Barry, who then got resurrected, and replaced Wally. Moon_Knight Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) Edit: Just looked it up. I was still right. Wally replaced Barry, who then got resurrected, and replaced Wally. I completely agree with you there. You're absolutely right when it comes to order. Jay Garrick was the first Flash and the Flash of the Golden Age. DC Comics revamped its comics for the Silver Age and Barry Allen became the Flash. Allen dies in Wolfman's Crisis on Infinite Earths and West takes over. As far as I'm concerned, Lego Flash is Wally West, who should never have been replaced by Allen, period. I'm sure that @Suspsy was talking about Barry Allen replacing Wally West in Geoff Johns' Flash: Rebirth. He was resurrected in Final Crisis and took back his mantle. @Suspsy could've easily been talking about Barry Allen being the Flash in the New 52 as well. It doesn't really matter though because @Suspsy's comment was an opinion. He must like Wally West more than Barry Allen when he SAID: "As far as I'm concerned..." There's a lot of people that like Wally West more than Barry Allen because they grew up with him or like his goofy personality more. @korpen4444 - People are sharing their opinions on this forum. That's what this forum is all about. Unfortunately it's not about comics, it's about LEGO which @Suspsy was mentioning. He's going to consider his LEGO Flash minifig Wally West because he LIKES Wally West. I will consider my LEGO Flash minifig Barry Allen because I LIKE Barry Allen. We don't need to accuse people for not knowing their comics or tear them down for liking Marvel more than DC. Let's all be considerate and respectful human beings even though we do disagree with some things. There is one thing we can say we have in common though. We all like LEGO! montgocloud Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 (edited) Just a quick question, but wouldn't this whole discussion be better suited for the "What Comics do you Read?" topic in the culture and multimedia forum? This is about the sets, not the various properties they're based on. EDIT: Ninja'd by Moon_Knight! After seeing the GOTG trailer another time, I'm starting to like the Groot figure a lot more. I had never noticed the moss that is prevalent on his film counterpart, so now I understand why there are splashes of dark green on the figure. Edited February 28, 2014 by montyofmusic Quote

Right. Which was widely regarded as a bad move. Again, Wally earned his right to the name "The Flash" but because certain people within DC felt things should always be the way they were on The Superfriends, characters who earned their mantles in succession, were stripped of those names, and relegated to second, or third tier status in favor of those who they replaced in the first place. Yet another reason why the reboot doesn't sit well with me. I still love the movies and animated spinoffs, but only rarely read the comics anymore. CorneliusMurdock Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Discussion about characters appearing in LEGO form are okay, but we should stay away from these kinds of arguments in the thread. If someone expresses an opinion different than your own, be tolerant of it. The "know your comics" attitude has to stop from everyone. Quote
