Freddy Bricker Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 The suit looks great, except I feel they should've thrown in dark gold boots to balance everything out. Not yellow boots that would look cartoony, and this all-red look is why I won't be picking up the Riddler Chase. Quote
B-Lister Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) Cutting off the nose to spite the face? The Flash is the main draw of that set, but if the rest of it doesn't measure up, I can see where you wouldn't see value. The Riddler, and the Dragster is a waste, though Batman, Flash, and the Batmobile balanced it for me. Your mileage may vary. Edited March 11, 2014 by B-Lister Quote
korpen4444 Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Well, if you really want Flash, I would say get the Riddler Chase. Who knows if he'll pop up again, and if he does, will he have boots. Maybe you could improve him. Quote
B-Lister Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 (edited) Like it or not, they decided not to do leg printing on the Superheroes sets. I imagine as a cost cutting measure, as the printing is the most expensive part of a set. Not buying a figure or set isn't going to send the message to TLG. You should contact them directly. Yes, Flash is the draw, but I also love the Riddler in this set(partially because I still need him), and The Batman in this set. And I still need a Batmobile, and the Dragster's good for parts, but it makes a great getaway vehicle too! Quote
B-Lister Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 I loved everything about the set. Though The Riddler, and the Dragster least of all. Batman's BTB deco is great, the Batmobile is a fun and great looking build, and Barry is amazing. I already had a Riddler, so he wasn't as big a draw, but can see how he's a good value for someone who doesn't yet have one. Though I personally wish it had been Two Face, as I don't yet have him. Actually, I only have Freeze, Catwoman and Penguin(though he's in the mail). But all the others are easy to get(MBA, JSR, BC,TBvsB) , so we need another Two-Face. Quote
Samiens Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 I don't really like boot printing on minifigures, I always find it looks a bit odd. Quote

Freddy Bricker Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Well considering the source material had boots, I feel it best to see the actual minifigure with boots. As long as the figure can pull off the bootless look, then fine. However this look on the Flash came out awkward to me and with a repeat Batmobile, Riddler, and Batman, then I don't see why I'd haul over 30 bucks to get 3 things I already have, for one minifigure that didn't even impress. That's just the way I see the buy, plus I feel the DC side of things is being wasted on one character, so I'll just wait till this one character starts pulling me in like others have, but for now, I'll keep waiting for another Superman set, Flash set, or or hopefully GL set. And no, I won't hold my breath Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 I said I'd be waiting for another Superman set, meaning I was impressed with the first and want more diverse sets that have non-Batman characters in them, as well as more diverse villains. I didn't like the Man of Steel sets, and feel that it is kind of strange that Lex is my only non-Batman villain. Superman vs. Power armor Lex is by far one of my favorite SH sets, I find it funny that such a fact would be in question. Quote

And no, I won't hold my breath Yeah, but the Batmobile is more awesome than the 2012 version, Bats is the best one yet(no one can deny), and I believe Flash can pull off the bootless look. Besides, IF we get another Flash, he probably wont have boots either. So the boots argument is pointless. Besides, I thought sets were about peices and the build for you guys, not whether a minifig has boots or not. Quote
Numbuh1Nerd Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 I like The Flash's tv costume, but no yellow boots? Hmm a bit to take in. No boots? I guess we really WILL get a set based off of this show! The only thing I don't like about it is the bright red backing on the symbol. Maybe if it were the same red, or even traditional white I'd be fine. The thing about Flash is that there really isn't a way to make him "dark and gritty" without sacrificing everything great about the character. His optimism, sense of humor, and relationship with his city and it's criminals make him an all around bright character, and is ultimately what makes him so appealing. He's so down to earth. It'd be like making a "dark, gritty, and realistic" biopic about Jennifer Lawrence. Quote

Exactly this. That's why a "dark" version of Flash would never work. Quote
B-Lister Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 What, aside from the costume indicates 'dark and gritty'? A bright costume might not have looked right, or may have had issues with special effects. There may be very practical reasons behind the palette choice. Quote
korpen4444 Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 What, aside from the costume indicates 'dark and gritty'? It's part of the Arrowverse. 'Nuff said. Quote
Numbuh1Nerd Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 The more I look at my current Superman fig, the more I want a New 52 version. I'm beginning to lose my fondness for his design. I really wish that, if they insist on making Batman the focus, adding in one of the other hero's bad guys in his duo sets. Maybe have Riddler replaced with Mirror Master or Captain Cold, Mr. Freeze teaming up with Black Manta, etc. I particularly want a Cheetah for Wonder Woman, since she has absolutely no villains thus far. Supes could use Metallo, Bizarro (screw of, SDCC exclusive) Doomsday, and maybe Toy Man (I have an odd interest in that guy. He seems like such an unmined character with lots of potential. Then again, I've never read a Superman title, only watched some episodes of the animated series, JLU, and the animated movies.)I think we need more villains from across the DCU, because Batman's foes are made to be challenging for Batman. Superman could take down Bane with a quick blast of heat vision to the venom tube. Wonder Woman's lasso would make quick work of Riddler. Flash could beat Joker easily for the most part. Aquaman's got the mad sharks to take on just about any of them. Throw Brainiac, Giganta, Weather Wizard, and Ocean Master respectively at 'em, and they're going to have a tough time. Quote
korpen4444 Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 I agree with all of what you said. Except the part about New 52 Supes. But we need more non-Bat Villains. Brainiac! Quote
Numbuh1Nerd Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 It's part of the Arrowverse. 'Nuff said. Given Arrow is constantly ripping off elements of the Batman universe and especially the Nolan movies, I'm wondering what they'll do with Flash. Maybe he'll be a constant rip-off of Man of Steel? Get all of Superman's baddies after they run through about 4 of his many good ones? Don't get me wrong, I love Arrow, but they really need to make a Green Arrow show and not just a budgeted Batman show. I agree with all of what you said. Except the part about New 52 Supes. But we need more non-Bat Villains. Brainiac! What can I say? I like the belt Brainiac would be absolutely stellar (no pun intended), especially in a big Justice League set. Brainiac and Darkseid would make for great JL villains, both in overall threat and number of henchman they could include. Quote
Moon_Knight Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 I personally find it ridiculous that the Flash even has boots. I understand that all comic book superheroes back in the day had boots because that was the thing to do back then but being a marathon runner/hiking enthusiast, it doesn't make sense. The Batman needs some combat-like boots, which Jim Lee and Paul Pope did in their art, because he's kicking butt and jumping off buildings but the Flash needs running shoes. I'm glad the yellow boots are gone. Many will most likely be against this but why not some golden Asics or even better, some decent running shoes with lightning bolts on the side? Quote

It's a little hard to even imagine anyone in a full bodied red suit wearing running shoes. I live in a mental state that says that in a real-world representation, the Flash's boots, as well as Robin's, are segmented and stitched in such a way that they are prime for running above all else. Numbuh1Nerd Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 After checking out a decent picture of the full, upright suit, he's got some gold detailing on the boots that works well enough for me. His torso piece looks a little too reminiscent of Green Arrow's. I can imagine the first meeting of the Arrowverse Justice League, and everyone walks in and realizes they're all wearing the same suit but with different logos. After like, 30 seconds of awkward silence, Batman: "I'm gonna go Bat-change." Superman: "Yeah, did we put any phone booths on here?" Wonder Woman: "It is far superior to my undergarments. I'm keeping it." Green Lantern: "I have to go speak with some Smurfs about this. *mumbles* "the ring makes the suit" my megablocks * Flash: "It's better than the one from the 90's, and I can't afford a new one, so..."
