Sam892 Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Now for that I need an explanation for. MOS was the first movie in DCs life action universe but GOTG is some Sci-Fi tale having nothing to do with anything in the MCU except for like a scene with Thanos sitting around and barely being explained at all. Connections with the MCU are barely helping the film since most people that would care about a Sci-Fi film are those that already watch everything Marvel. With the failing of nearly every Sci-Fi film made that wasn´t already a household name in the last few years it seems riskier to do that instead of a Superman movie considering they at the very least break even alone through the name. Superman Returns made enough money and that was a sequel to some movies from the 70s that are abysmal for new audiences. I talked about LEGO not giving a crap about comic cons. We got a high-res pic of a single Batman wave 1 set in 2011 from NYCC (and right around the same time we got okay quality confidential pics of all sets from france anyway). That was basically it. Sets only get announced through fully LEGO themed cons and events and the San-Diego con. LEGO never gave a crap about comic conventions. They always send somebody over who sells their newest sets but that´s it. Before 2011 the biggest thing from LEGO during San-Diego were the crappy con-exclusive sets that are only relevant for scalpers and the few people that actually go to the con, it practically never happened that LEGO announced something. They prefer to keep every information to themselves and let everything show up without a warning in stores. Set lists for the superhero lines take always much longer than the other themes. I think Around October/November or worst in December when they are already in US stores. Also there are rumors that DC plans to put MOS, Arrow and the new Flash show in the same universe which could mean we will get Arrow sets in the next few years or at least get him when they are finally doing Justice League in 2023. Also there is a rumored JL cartoon and the DC cartoon line-up is constantly changing anyway. I would think a Green Arrow fig is on their to-do list right beside the other major Justice Leaguers like GL and Aquaman. Thor 2 is a November release, the december release Hobbit has only a single set announced. We will probably only know for sure in October/November when the first 2014 wave gets detailed. Superman's and popularity has been decreasing rapidly since the 80's, plus despite what has been said regarding MoS there was no big DCU plans. This film has been in production for 3 years long before DC wanted to do a big universe, and they stated that they didn't know if they were going to make one. It's only after MoS that they decided they wanted to make a larger universe, and they still haven't made any plans as of yet. MoS could have been a massive flop and there was no certainty that kids would want toys based on it. Superman isn't a character that appeals to kids today as well. With GotG there's a lot that appeals to kids. Cool ships, aliens, space battles and much more. Plus we don't know how much it ties into the MCU. For all we know it could tie well into Thor, Avemgers and future projects. The characters also appeal to kids alot more, a talking raccoon that shots aliens and pilots ships can't not appeal to a 8 year old. Quote
North Lego Star Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 GotG is not something I personally see appealing to kids as it's not much a superhero movie, rather than a Sci-Fi action film. Lego alreay has Star Wars, which is very appealing to kids at the moment, to fill that Sci-Fi Film spot so, I wouldn't expect to see any GotG simply because it's not a well known property like Superman is explaning why it wasn't a risky move by lego to make MoS sets. As fot Lego DC, I think we can expect this year to be very similar to 2012 meaning all Batman, but 2015 will be the have lego touch upon the World's Finest Movie and maybe if Arrow is made a part of the DCU as it is rumored to be, some Arrow Sets as well, but that's something that I wouldn't set your hearts on. If everything goes as planned though, 2016 we'll get Flash Movie Sets and then in 2017 we'll probaly get Justice League sets. It's just about waiting, so I think at this point we'll just have be patient and wait it out for everything. Quote

I remember a few weeks back that DC said it was unlikely that Arrow will be brought over to the DCU. Also neither a Flash film or Justice League film have been confirmed. Plus having one property that is of a certain genre does not reduce the possibility of another, unless there is something in the contract. The same convulsions could also be drawn between LEGO, Marvel and DC. LEGO already has DC to fill the Superhero void, why would they need Marvel. LEGO has had both Galaxy quest sets and Star Wars sets on sake at the same time. While not a Licenced property both are Sci Fi. Plus if the guy at TT games is correct (which he most likely is) we will be seeing GotG sets next year. I do not understand why people don't think we will see them. Quote

I think it's the matter of Marvel having so mush material coming out next year that leads people to believe GotG sets are not coming. We'll probaly get 3 Captain America Set, either 2 USM or ASM2 sets and, if lego wants to balance things out between Marvel and DC, they'll probaly release an X-Mansion. That right there is Marvel's 6 six of the year. Also, the regular Superhero sets don't come with more than 5 minifigs, so if there were a GotG set in the regular wave, it would just be the 5 members of GotG and that's not much of a set. So lego would probaly have to make any GotG set an Arkham Asylum size set to included the five heros and the villains, which would push back the hopes of getting an X-Mansion Exclusive. Again though, we'll just have to bw patient and ait and see what happens. Quote
Blakstone Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 Superman is well known the world round. In LEGO terms, he had his own set long before the recent movie came out. I have long been a Marvel + Batman fan but I bought two Superman sets. If LEGO comes out with a GotG set, I will have to see some pieces in there that I need for a MOC before I buy it. I do really want Thor 2 and some Winter Soldier sets. Quote
TheBatstan Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 More covers. Those other IM armors are so amazing and so are Loki and Thor. http://www.brickhero...-loki-iron-man/ Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 So where are we supposed to be able to buy these covers? Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted August 8, 2013 Posted August 8, 2013 The local comic book shop is a good place to start. I'm planning on calling mine, and seeing if they can hold one of each issue for me. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 I want one of each also. I'll have to look around. I've never been into a comic shop before. Quote
CustomJoe_MD Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 (edited) Love the artwork, it made me think of how we probably will have to wait a decade for some of those minis to get released. That cover with the Widow, Cap and Brown Wolverine is mouthwatering. I'd buy a set just with that and some villain they could kick around. That would be a Cap mini to be proud of. Do you people think the Classic Loki would re-use the movie headgear or a new piece with poneytail?? (and hope for smaller more curvy horns, that thing was ridiculously big) Edited August 9, 2013 by CustomJoe_MD Quote

The characters also appeal to kids alot more, a talking raccoon that shots aliens and pilots ships can't not appeal to a 8 year old. I know nobody wants to remember it, myself included, but Superman Returns is a movie that existed in 2006. It got merchandise and made a good profit. Superman was also main part of the Justice League show that aired in the same year and appeared in nearly every other DC show since then at least in cameos (Brave and Bold, The Batman) or in an important supporting role (Young Justice) and completely detached from this there are countless clothing items that casuals buy every year. Even though he wasn´t in any film that was important and actually good people still like and recognize him, even the children. Superman is right behind Batman in popularity and sales if anything. WB had countless Superman movies in the works in all those years but never went forward with anything because every idea was either totally dumb and nobody on their executive board wanted to point this out before working on it for two years or it conflicted with the Nolan trilogy. WB wanted to start a DC movieverse with Green Lantern which utterly failed, MOS was conceived during the making of TDKR and was always meant to start a new universe, even when they deny it, WB just didn´t want to announce or confirm any plans for a MOS universe since Green Lantern was announced as the start of a DC universe, a trilogy, supposed to get its own cartoon and everything else basically while the film bombed hard. Superman was always popular or at least known and sold at the very least well enough to break even. Something like Lone Ranger and Speed Racer, a movie based on a show that wasn´t relevant in decades, or GotG, something that nobody knows and is a sci-fi film, a genre that didn´t have a popular movie outside of Star Wars and Star Trek for a decade, is pretty much a guarantee to not break even, let alone be any good. The only thing GotG has running for it would be its cast, general positive reception with the sci-fi crowd and connections to the Marvel universe. All things that only internet people like you and me care about and are common with all the other countless sci-fi films that made a loss. It´s very possible that LEGO makes GotG sets, seeing how their main targets for licenses are overly successful multi-year franchises and obvious flavor of the month box office trainwrecks it could go either way. How the Comic-Con figs for Marvel had 350 available and for DC only 200 were given away can imply that contracts were finally modified to suit the 8 IPs Marvel covers against the 2 DC is confident in, but what do I know, I wasn´t right with any predictions since 2010. I`m just that saying I can understand that you believe in GotG and it will probably happen but saying MoS is riskier than GotG is going too far into the other direction. Also neither a Flash film or Justice League film have been confirmed. Flash tv show confirmed. Spin-Off from Arrow (Flash will appear in three episodes there first) and he will be in his traditional costume (or at least something very near to it). It sounds like they want to make Flash compatible for kids and the JL movie and edgy enough for tumbler teenagers. If they really don´t want to carry over Arrow it would be a very dumb decision considering they want everyone to be like Batman and Arrow is the nearest thing we have to Nolanman right now.Plus if the guy at TT games is correct (which he most likely is) we will be seeing GotG sets next year. Wasn´t there somebody talking about how TT only saw sets of the beginning of the year? Because that could rule out the possibility of a X-Mansion since Cyclops has a regular head with a physical visor on it in a way that would need very special printing techniques and a new mold, when a S@H exclusive could only make him a regular fig with a 2D-print visor. And generally every X-Man in this game is using at least one never seen before mold. On the other hand the Mansion maybe just wasn´t shown to them because they release it in summer/july to tie in with the movie and it doesn´t count as first half of the year. Would make sense since next year the S@H promo fig will be Marvel again and they could tie them both together, like how the May 4th Star Wars fig always has a UCS set coming with it.I do not understand why people don't think we will see them. Because 2013 and 12 every company got six or five sets and right now Marvel has 5 films/shows (ASM2, USM, Cap2, Thor2, GotG) to cover plus maybe also X-Men (more sets confirmed), Fantastic Four (would be weird to include them on the cover of the video game but not give a single set) and Avengers Assemble (maybe not as it´s the same as the movies and those get covered already anyway). This doesn´t even turn out at one set per IP in the worst case and we all know at least one of them will get multiple sets so this is more of a question of who is the least important and GotG just comes to mind with them not even having connections with the MCUs story aside from maybe showing Thanos in a scene or two. Don´t forget that S@H sets can´t use new molds (which cancels out a GotG S@H exclusive) and that Marvel and DC not only get the same amount of sets but also sets in the same price categories. If they would do a 100+ GotG set with the most important people from the film that would mean for DC a 100+ set and since they don´t do Justice League because we can´t have nice things it would have to be Wayne Manor and the Manor maybe couldn´t even be released since it has a very samey role to the Batcave and Arkham Asylum. Omicron Posted August 9, 2013 Posted August 9, 2013 Also neither a Flash film or Justice League film have been confirmed. Zach Snyder himself at ComicCon said there will be a Flash and Justice League movies. Flash tv show confirmed. Do we really need another one? The first one didn't even last a season. :P -Omi Quote

TheLegoDr Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 That's a good video. I hope to see a lot of those figures in sets down the road. They even made a Punisher! But so far the characters look good. Quote
DJ Bricks Posted August 10, 2013 Posted August 10, 2013 Well according to an interview between a Lego Rep and Agent M( Marvel's YouTube promo guy) at SDCC, the reason no Marvel sets were show for the 2014 winter wave is to keep things "secret" until its closer to launch. This leads me to believe the winter line consists of Thor: TDW set(s), CA:TWS sets( the movie comes out in April) and th USM set featuring the Green Goblin fig. Then the summer has ASM2 and GOTG (Marvel is really shoving this down kids throats with the USM episode, new toys, and a rumored TV cartoon, I would bet my Lego collection Marvel would want Lego sets based on it) sets. Then again the TT Rep could have seen the Spidey sets and assumed they where the movie versions. Quote
legoIgor123 Posted August 11, 2013 Posted August 11, 2013 Does anyone else think they should Lego need to open up to more comic book super heroes and villains? We have about: 3 Spideys 4 Iron mans 2 Supermans 2 Riddlers About 100 Batmans Where are the others? It's nice to see Flash and WonderWoman or Hawk eye or Captain America or Thor or Black Widow. But there's still loads more! Why do they feel the need to put a new Batman in every set? I hope new characters (not just Flash) will come next year... Quote

Freddy Bricker Posted August 12, 2013 Posted August 12, 2013 Everyone's making so much fuss about this set I feel like I'm the only one who's thinking about Marvel right now. The 6th 2013 Marvel set has had no word so far which is kind of bugging me considering the release Thor 2 coming out this year. Anyways, Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain America 2, X-Men Days of future past, and the Amazing Spiderman movies are coming out next year, Lego only makes 6 Marvel sets, can someone please explain to me what that means for Marvel 2014? 4 movies with only 6 sets, will they pass out on X-Men and Guardians of the galaxy? I honestly believe Marvel needs more comic book based sets, so I would love it if Lego passed on X-Men, but does anyone have any idea about it? Anyways I really want the Flash but find this set mediocre, I think the batmobile looks terrible and I overall hate dragsters, so I guess I won't be getting the flash :( Quote
