Masked Builder Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 My gosh those are great! I was planning on getting them all anyways, this just reenforces my earlier thoughts, Why didn't Captain America get this treatment? Quote
gundamz Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 GotG sets look awesome. Love the detail on the figures. (And I'm not even a GotG fan). Plan on getting Rocky the Raccoon as a separate minifigure. Xmen set looks great!!! :) Let me know if you come across any close-up pictures of Rocky the Raccoon. Would love to get one for my collection. (I like raccoons). Quote
Sam892 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 We need another set to get Yondu and the Collector! Not really, though. Even if some things from the film never make it into a set, these are still a nice mix. Definitely better than either the IM3 or the Man of Steel waves since none of this stuff is redundant. The Metropolis Showdown and Mandarin Lawnmower were basically useless sets, whereas the smallest one of these actually looks cool and seems nice. I get the idea from the trailer that the collector is being set up for future movies. It looks more likely that Nebular and Ronan will be the main bad guys, with Thanos and the collector being saved for Phase 3 Quote
Suspsy Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I'm absolutely thrilled that Groot, RR, and Nebula are in the same set----and it's NOT the most expensive one! Who else plans to have their Groot stomping on orcs? ;) Quote
KingPixels Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Could someone explain to me why Drax is grey? He isn't grey in the movie, he isn't grey in the comics, so why is he grey here? Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Could someone explain to me why Drax is grey? He isn't grey in the movie, he isn't grey in the comics, so why is he grey here? Knowing LEGO and their history with movie sets, they probably saw some concept art of Drax being grey (if any exists) and so assumed he would be grey in the movie as well. If not, it was probably just some unfortunate colouring error. Not that I personally mind it too much; after all, these sets are nowhere near as bad as the Iron Man 3 or Man of Steel sets. Quote
Tom Jurassic Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 These look absolutely gorgeous. The designs are perfect, and they look like a heck lot of work has been put into designing some really cool sets with some great features! The X-Men set looks great, and I am thrilled the X-Jet can fit three mini-figures! :) The GOTG sets look amazing, particularly the Milano! I definitely am excited for these sets. One question; which figure is the NOVA Officer, and is he essentially an Intergalactic Policeman? Quote
iamste Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 (edited) The Nova Corps officer is the guy with the red star thingy on his helmet. They're essentially space police, yeah. Hopefully this will Lead in to an actual film about the character Nova, who is an office of the corps, ala green lantern. I find it hilarious/unfair that us Marvel fans already have our Nova mini fig, when demand wasn't even that high to begin with. You'll get your green lantern one day guys. So is he similar to the Nova from USM? Also, if he's in the cheapest set, that's good. I assume there is more then one Nova Officer in the Universe? Quote

Hes soo close to being grey in the movie. other toy manufactureres also has him grey. Quote
Legoman123 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I am really loving the Milano Spaceship Rescue set. The exterior looks excellent and the interior looks even better. I can't wait to pick this up! The other two GOTG sets look really good as well. As for the X-Men set I really wasn't expecting it to look as good as this. I am very happy with the amount of seating we are getting as I thought it was just going to be a two seated X-Jet (I think there is actually four seats). Overall I think this is the best summer wave we have seen from the Supeheroes theme. Quote
strangely Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Could someone explain to me why Drax is grey? He isn't grey in the movie, he isn't grey in the comics, so why is he grey here? Well he has a pretty unique color, it's grey with a greenish tint, so it was probably hard to match against existing colors in use already. I think honestly it's a toss up between sand green and grey, either colors would be a workable match, but neither ultimately match the color in the movie, but that's just how it is when you have a limited color palette. And some of the other toy companies have been using grey, so I assume that the color may have been specified by Marvel. Quote
Dr Leg O Brick Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Perhaps, either he is grey at this point in the movie, closer to grey than sand green as strangely said or, that concept wise, he was grey to begin with. Consider this, who else is big, green, and tough? Perhaps Marvel's initial plan was to avoid confusion. I sure as hell can tell the difference, but could a five year old? Perhaps Marvel considered that his tattoos where different enough and when filming stuck with Drax's green colour. It's a shame Yondu or the collector isn't in the sets, if the Collector does play a part in the film it would've made nice to get part of the collector's collection, what a colourful set that would've been. Still, I'm bursting with anticipation for the three GOTG sets, can't wait till August. Quote
Only Sinner Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I like these new Marvel sets better than anything else TLG has made for Marvel yet. Although the builds in the X-Men set are too small, that's ok as that is what mods and MOCs are for, besides the minifigs more than make up for it I especially like that Storm! The bar has definately been raised with the GOTG sets, too as all of them are very well designed. The builds are wonderful, except maybe the Knowhere Escape. The character designs are fantastic, even the repeat Starlord fig is totally different. I don't care that Drax is grey, his printing is some of the best I have ever seen, and he may very well become my new favorite minifig. Great job with these sets, TLG! Quote

Piranha Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 The Milano looks great, one of my favorite Marvel sets yet. Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Wow, can I just say that these sets are spectacular? Didn't want to buy more than just the 2 Avengers sets this year, but these will be pulling me into the Superheroes line again! I'll be the first to say that I love the build in the Nowhere escape set, and Nebula will be highly anticipated (though I know that this is a shared opinion). As for the Milano, the seating arangement is great and I love how contary to Star Wars ships, the "cockpit" is connected to the rest of the ship, and can be walked through. Actually, I'm starting to think the Milano has no cockpit. Either way, I love all of these sets. The fact that Gamora, Drax and Starlord all have dark red on is making me think that the Guardians will all be wearing uniform-like outfits. As for that ugly Sentinel, wasted back of a vehicle, and terrible minifigure selection and design that is known as our 2nd X-Men set since the beginning of this line, all I have to say is: see ya later X-Men. Really wish more work would've been put into this set, though I think I'm in the minority, or at least the vocal minority. Quote
BrickyNolan35 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 We could've at least gotten a small set with the new Cap suit and Nick Fury fighting the Winter Soldier with a SHIELD van or something. Although SPOILERS: I think we'll get the chance for a Winter Soldier figure later on. (this is the best way to hide spoilers that I could come up with right now, so highlight to see.) It was amazing, and a lot of people are calling it the best Marvel movie yet, which makes the lack of sets a little odd. The new Cap set was obviously they're attempt to cash in on it, with the old suit showing up for a pretty big portion of the film. Although why they didn't just have Winter Soldier on that tank instead of Red Skull and change up the color scheme is beyond me. Those Guardians sets are pretty cool. I'm still not way into Groot, but that Nova Corps member looks really cool! Rocket's got shoulder pads for some reason, maybe they used that new piece to fix the tail problem. Whoever the blue girl is (names aren't my strong suit) she looks pretty awesome, too. Hopefully I'll be able to get some purist use out of her. Gray Drax isn't doing anything for me. Does Star Lord have a new hairpiece or is it the same generic male one? Not really that much of a spoiler Quote

X-Men is my favorite Marvel comic group, and definitely want the official Cyclops and Storm, but it feels hard to want to shell out $50 just for that when the GotG sets look so awesome. The X-Jet just looks pretty bland, like a bunch of slopes, and the Sentinal is awful. I'd prefer a bigger, more complex Blackbird in the ilk of the Quinjet or Milano over this despite it surely costing more. Quote

Seeing what they did with Guardians of the Galaxy lets me know that they could do a lot better with the X-Men, they're my favorite Marvel team after all! As for comic though, I put Spiderman over them anyday. Quote
Suspsy Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Saw Captain America 2 tonight. Enjoyed it very much. However, after seeing the film, there is no doubt in my mind that Lego made the right choice with this year's Marvel sets. Give me Hulk Lab Smash and Captain America vs Hydra over something based on TWS or Thor: The Dark World any day. Quote
gedren_y Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 About the Nova figure, he is the Nova of the USM cartoon, which is Earth-1610. He has a different backstory to the Nova of the regular Marvel universe, which is Earth-616. Both the Novas I believe are currently Sam Alexander, but the first Nova in 616 was Richard Rider. He got his powers from the dying Rhomann Dey, a Nova Corps Centurion. The Nova Corps were the peacekeeping force of Xandar. The GOTG movie appears to be before the Annihilation storyline, and thus before the destruction of Xandar. The Nova Corps in the movie appear to be filling the role of the stock law enforcement that the 'heroes' have to get around to "save the day." The Guardians in the movie are basically space vigilantes. This storyline may even be set before Rhomann Dey passes his power to Richard Rider. That way Marvel could give us a movie with Nova some time down the line. The upcoming sets are okay, but then again I have no interest in buying sets to build Marvel. I want Ronan the Accuser for other theme purposes, so I may buy the first set we saw. I will probably buy the X-Jet set to part out, only keeping Wolverine and Storm the way they are. I won't call that plane the Blackbird, because Lego didn't get the SR-71 look right. Since we aren't getting Yondu, the other GOTG sets hold no appeal for me. Quote
gundamz Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 (edited) The LEGO Xmen XJet/Blackbird appears to be based on the Xmen animated version of the plane. See http://img2.wikia.no...ackbird_002.jpg Note the prominence of blue colour on the plane. See also https://www.youtube....h?v=wZAhqEiq4cA. It is not based on the movie version, which is almost entirely black. http://www.digitalsp...-blackbird.html My main gripe with the Xmen set is the very poor price/piece ratio. Nevertheless, I think I'll get it because I like Xmen. Edited April 6, 2014 by gundamz Quote
