Overall I'm pretty happy with the GotG sets, except for these nitpicks:

  • Drax is grey.
  • Star Lord has a red trenchcoat like he did in the concept art, rather than a jacket like he has in the final movie.
  • Groot looks awful. I'd really much prefer a minifig-sized version.

Hes soo close to being grey in the movie. other toy manufactureres also has him grey.

They probably based it on this concept art. It sucks that they made him grey since he's definitely more green in the final movie.

About the Nova figure, he is the Nova of the USM cartoon, which is Earth-1610. He has a different backstory to the Nova of the regular Marvel universe, which is Earth-616. Both the Novas I believe are currently Sam Alexander, but the first Nova in 616 was Richard Rider. He got his powers from the dying Rhomann Dey, a Nova Corps Centurion. The Nova Corps were the peacekeeping force of Xandar.

The GOTG movie appears to be before the Annihilation storyline, and thus before the destruction of Xandar. The Nova Corps in the movie appear to be filling the role of the stock law enforcement that the 'heroes' have to get around to "save the day." The Guardians in the movie are basically space vigilantes.

This storyline may even be set before Rhomann Dey passes his power to Richard Rider. That way Marvel could give us a movie with Nova some time down the line.

The upcoming sets are okay, but then again I have no interest in buying sets to build Marvel. I want Ronan the Accuser for other theme purposes, so I may buy the first set we saw. I will probably buy the X-Jet set to part out, only keeping Wolverine and Storm the way they are. I won't call that plane the Blackbird, because Lego didn't get the SR-71 look right. Since we aren't getting Yondu, the other GOTG sets hold no appeal for me.

I think it's safe assume a Nova movie is certainly on the table, but the deciding factor will be the publics reception of Guardians.

I actually still think he looks pretty green there, it's a very subdued green, but putting him next to Gamora, who is full on green, hasn't helped the poor fella.

Makes me wonder how many people see these pics before the set is complete, surely someone from the studio could have voiced the fact he IS green.

Maybe they don't want two greenies in the same set though?

Now remember what they did with the Hulk promo fig? It would not only be a nice move to have a minifig scale Groot, I would absolutely prefer this over the brick built one, which is just way too big.

Just give Groot arms and legs like Woody from Toy Story.

Marvel gives the company standards to follow I believe, so it is possible that they recommended the color they feel represents the characters best. Drax's color is sort of a weird area, he looks both green and gray depending on the lighting, even the other toy companies can't decide what color he is. Perhaps his color changes throughout the film. Either way I'm sure these sets had to pass inspection by Marvel, so I'm sure the final coloring is to their liking.

I sort of agree about them not wanting to make characters too similar. I mean I think young kids might look at a green Drax and just see Hulk with tattoo's. I doubt that was the main reason they chose the color, but I tend to think it played a part in the decision.

Add a specially molded head and you have a properly sized Groot. Really I'm sort of disappointed about how Groot turned out, I don't think the color was a great choice either.

Yea, I think that's the only negative from the GOTG sets. :sceptic:

These sets and minifigs look incredible -

Star lord with jacket and helmet is perfect

Gamora looks great

Rocket is phenomenal

Drax is disappointing that he's grey but the printing is great

Groot is by far my favourite - dan abnetts guardians is by far my favourite comic book series and the groot is perfect for his runs version!

He actually looks silver there.

I don't know what trailers people have been watching, but Drax has always looked fairly grey to me. As some have said, there's no proper LEGO color for what he 'really' is, but I think grey was a good choice. Perhaps olive or sand green would've worked, but then he might have ended up looking way too green. Grey works for me.

So does this Nova have any actual connection to Spider-Man in the comics? Because if he does, maybe he could be our unofficial link between the Avengers and Spider-Man.

The sets look great but a question: Is Star Lord's weapons a new mold, they look like there from GS so I'm unsure.

both those weapons in gotg are new molds.

Just spent 45 minutes designing a Triskelion Building from CA: TWS in Lego Digital Design, and I can see why Lego did not release CA: TWS sets! The Triskelion is arguably the most interesting thing that we do not have yet in Lego form, and the time it took to build was ridiculous! In addition to that, it is more like a scarce modular then an actual set which would be about £50. Furthermore, it is the dullest and most boring item I have designed, as there are no play features! I understand now why we saw no Captain America sets, but I am still gutted. :(

I'm not too bothered we didn't get Cap sets, but if you're telling me they couldn't have made a £20 set with him in his stealth uniform, Batroc the leaper, and Black Widow or some random terrorist with some smashable scenery stuff, you're crazy.

Same goes for a £12 set with him and winter solider and a computer thingy he needs to fight winter solider to get access to.

The sets you just described, iamste, sound incredibly dull, and I think that's telling with Cap: TWS. Sure, LEGO can make whatever set they want, but there's nothing in TWS that pops. Even the minifigures would be kind of grey and black overall. While it's a shame not to get the Winter Soldier himself for those who want him, tying into the film with the colorful Avengers Assemble sets was a great way to go.

Thor: The Dark World, on the other hand, sadly could've spawned a few awesome sets. The designs of the Asgardian and Dark Elf vehicles are cool, and there are tons of characters in Thor that have awesome costumes that would translate into interesting minifigures. It's sad LEGO decided not to make a couple Thor sets, but I think keeping a couple boring grey 'computer thingy' sets from Cap out of the lineup was a good decision (but then LEGO went and made a couple stupid Spider-Man sets that really didn't need to exist…).

I'm not bothered! I'd rather get the comic book/tv show sets either way. But to suggest Lego couldn't come up with anything to base a set on is nuts. We've had WAY duller. How could a £12 set consisting of the climax of the movie with a set piece and the two main characters be dull anyways?

While I don't think a range of sets for Cap 2 would work I think that a Death Star style helicarrier set could've worked with different areas with stuff from The Avengers as well as Cap 2. That way we could have all of the stuff missing from both movies like Nick Fury, The Winter Soldier, Maria Hill, some SHIELD agents, The Falcon, new Black Widow, new Captain America, etc.

Also, I think that the Guardians sets look fantastic and, while unlikely, I hope we can get more that are comic based as I think Marvel Now Starlord looks way better than in the movie, we could also get a green Drax.
