TheLegoDr Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 If you think about it, everyone's cones are at a different wavelength, so everyone will see colors differently. But what you perceive to be green or gray will vary depending on lighting. I can easily see both in those pictures. There is a greenish tint to the gray. But I wouldn't say 100% either way. Plus it goes back to what LEGO color has on hand since they won't create a new color for one character without introducing it with the rest of their line. Also, Marvel would have a say in how they want it portrayed. Just be happy we are getting one. I don't know who the Guardians are, but their figures look cool. Quote
Suspsy Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 I think there ought to be a pasted post somewhere to remind everyone that Groot is capable of increasing his size by absorbing wood. Mind, I don't fault anyone for thinking the brick-built figure is inaccurate. It's not as if Groot is as well known as the Hulk or Superman. As for Drax being gray, well, maybe that was done to distinguish him more from Gamora? Or maybe the minifigure was conceived based on a miscoloured depiction? Quote
Sam892 Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Drax in the movie isn´t really green and goes a bit into a greyish direction which makes him look grey in bad lighting like "strangely" linked but making him flat-out light grey is going too far, he is obviously olive. Like with Boba Fett where the limbs of his overall are a different shade of light grey and instead of making the whole overall light grey because when you don´t look several minutes on a pic of it you wouldn´t even notice that difference, Lego made it goddamn blue because the designers are too stupid and colorblind nowadays to make a judgement call and choose what real people see. And on the topic of accuracy, how tall is this Mixel joints Groot anyway now in relation to minifigs? 10 or 12 metres? He seems awfully big to me when he was just like a head or two higher in the movie and maybe twice as tall as a regular person on the first concept art. At least we can´t blame Marvel for the non-film designs like with Iron Man, the concept art seems to be pretty clear about it. http://media2.firsts...CharsFullXL.jpg Groot can increase his size rapidly at will so I'm guessing he's increased his overall height by double, in order to face nebular. strangely Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 (edited) Plus it goes back to what LEGO color has on hand since they won't create a new color for one character without introducing it with the rest of their line. This is what I've thought since the beginning. These toy companies don't have unlimited color palettes, so ultimately they have to make a choice. I'll admit the Drax minifigure is too grey, but honestly any of the green shades would have been to green, so there's really not going to be a winner here. And creating a new color for him would be pointless, partially because it would just be difficult to recreate that color, and it just wouldn't be cost effective. I think there ought to be a pasted post somewhere to remind everyone that Groot is capable of increasing his size by absorbing wood. I understand that reasoning, I think most people are just upset that's the variation they gave us rather than the one that's scaled to match the rest of the minifigures. They should have given him a regular sized variation too (Just like they should have given us a Bruce Banner minifigure to go with the Hulk bigfig). As for Drax being gray, well, maybe that was done to distinguish him more from Gamora? I tend to think Marvel may have made this choice just because they have several green superheroes already. I mean they wouldn't want kids to mistake Drax for bald, tattooed Hulk. Edited April 10, 2014 by strangely Quote
montgocloud Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 To help settle this, let me point out that the photos being posted of green Drax are on-set photos. Judging by the trailer, Guardians of the Galaxy has a very rich blue/orange color filter, which drastically drowns out and distorts green, resulting in a more gray Drax. Maybe it's not as gray as the minifigure, but it's definitely closer to light bluish gray than any LEGO hue of green. Quote
SMC Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 wow I just read two pages of green/gray lets move on Quote
rodiziorobs Posted April 10, 2014 Posted April 10, 2014 Groot isn't minifig-sized because Rocket is (presumably with short legs). In the trailer you see Rocket on Groot's shoulder, something that couldn't happen if they were both minifig-sized. If Rocket had been the size of the Friends animals, then small Groot might have worked, but thank goodness they didn't go that route. Quote

I do like the feature shown on the back of the box where Rocket is on Groot's shoulder I think brick built was probably the right way to go, however I wish they could have sized him down just a little bit. I know Groot can change size, but I think a scaled down version of what we got would have been a nice compromise between huge Groot and a normal resting size Groot. Quote
KingPixels Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 He really looks grey to me. There are other colors mixed in for sure, but he seems to be primarily grey. There's obviously a reason Lego chose grey for the minifigure. I think lighting sort of plays a part as to why he looks green some of the time. That's taken from the poster which is set at night. That's why he looks grey. Quote

Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 (edited) I'm quite surprised that we're getting so much discussion regarding the colour of Drax. I personally think he has looked green in every picture I have seen, but I am unconcerned about his minifigure being grey. Considering other inaccuracies we've had from TLG (dare I mention the Iron Man 3 wave), this slight inaccuracy (or accuracy, depending on what colour you perceive Drax as) is nothing too major; after all, the minifigure of Drax still looks very good and is very detailed. *EDIT* 400 posts. At last. Edited April 11, 2014 by Star Wars NutJob 69 Quote
Tom Jurassic Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 I enjoyed the IM3 wave. The Mansion was too small, but was a nice addition, and the vehicles are pretty cool tbh! Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 The sets from the IM3 wave weren't bad as general sets, but as sets based on IM3 they were pretty bad. Pretty much all of them were highly inaccurate to the movie, though the Mansion was very accurate. Some of the minifigures also left a lot to be desired (the Extremis soldiers and Killian with glow-in-the-dark heads were dreadful for example) and a lot of the cooler suits from the movie were left out as well. By comparison, the sets for GotG all look completely excellent, though their accuracy to the movie remains to be seen. All the minifigures also look very good, though I am very disappointed with how Groot turned out, even if he is able to increase his height like that. Quote
Toby Adams Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 I like the sets ,but I wish groot had brown or green joints. It would also and more custom mech possibility's! Regarding The IM3 wave, it was great and perfect. The mansion had a few defects and so did the £12 set but overall it was fantastic. Heck, I even painted a iron man suit in black to make an IM4 parody. The whole 'colour of drax' thing has been taking up a lot of space and TBH I don't care as long as we get the figure. BE GREATFULL! Quote

Moon_Knight Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=97937 Holy crap... I'm freaking out. Quote
Lord Rahl of Clannad Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Wow... that helmet looks wonderful up close! I'm also curious about that environment Star-Lord is running through in the second picture; it sort of reminds me of Tatooine from Star Wars, though in this case it's probably just some random world where there is some fight scene or something. This makes me realise that we still know very little about the movie. Even the sets for the film don't give too much away outside of character designs. This is going to be very interesting, very interesting indeed... Quote
Dreamweb Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 This new X-Men set is a must have for me! Cyclops, Wolverine, Magneto and Storm minifigs in one set - what else is there to say? Can't wait to get my hands on it! Quote
8BrickMario Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 (edited) I know everyone talks about how many minifigures an actor has for their characters (Alfred Molina, Harrison Ford, Helena Bonham Carter, Johnny Depp, etc.), but this has to be the fastest an actor (Chris Pratt) got their first two (Emmet and Star-Lord) in less than a year! Though Emmet was already a minifigure, but technically it still applies! Edited April 11, 2014 by 8BrickMario Quote

Oh my that is an amazing mask I can't wait to get the LEGO version of it! When the pictures of the set first came out I thought the LEGO version looked too flat, but now it seems to be darn near perfect. Thanks for the link! Edited April 12, 2014 by Spider-Man Quote
