A "few" pages ago didn't an AIM scientist appear in a comic with MODOK and Red Skull? And a year before that, didn't Jimmy Olsen make a cameo in a Superman comic? I think that's all this is. And as for the people asking why they would go through all the trouble of designing a minifigure of Ventriloquist: They didn't. It's just the back of his head, not that it would be that much trouble to make the whole minifigure. If you look at the Spider-Man comic, it features plenty of civilian characters we haven't gotten, plus Peter, Ben, and Flash. At least two of those probably aren't going to appear soon, if at all.

Edit: And the Green Lantern mention is just trolling at this point. :hmpf_bad:

This isn't "trouble" to design a minifig. This is a few minutes work for an artist to sketch in a comic panel using a minifig style character for a little story. I don't think it technically even rises to the level of concept art in the overall scheme of things. Just as with the AIM beekeeper and Jimmy Olson, there are a lot more things involved to make an actual production figure. Lots of validations and testing. Lots of approvals.

DC head honchos revealed recently that the upcoming Bats vs. Supes movie will not only include Cyborg, but will also be followed up by an honest to goodness Justice League flick.

In 2017.

Hopefully by then, TLG and DC have exhausted every possible Batman minifig and Batmobile variant so we can get to the rest of the DC Universe! I can't wait!!!!

Well if the Wall Street Journal is anything to go by Justice League won't be the only DC movie in the next few years. They're reporting as are many others that DC are also making films for Shazam, The Metal Men, Fables and 100 Bullets. I wouldn't expect sets areound those last 2, but surely the Metal men and Shazam would stop Batman getting all the limelight in the LEGO aisle.

It would be different if the AIM Scientist was secretly one of the two main antagonists of the story, but he wasn't. He was a dude in the background. We're going to get Jimmy Olsen eventually anyway. Uncle Ben and Flash Gordon wouldn't be in a set in any logical circumstance whatsoever unless the former was bleeding out onto the pavement, which seems rather unlikely. The Ventriloquist is a Batman villain made of entirely existing pieces that is relatively well-known and could easily be incorporated into a set. It makes sense and plenty of it that he would be in an upcoming wave of DC sets that we know nothing whatsoever about.

Is he one of two main villains, or is he just making a cameo as a Bat-rogue staring at a screen? I know that LEGO magazine comics are not exactly fine literature, but would it really make sense for Scarface and Scarecrow to want Superman, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern, but not Batman? They are probably working for Lex Luthor the "benefactor" just like Penguin and Poison Ivy.

Also, we'll probably have to agree to disagree here, but I do not think that Ventriloquist is relatively well known. I'd consider him high D- or low C-List, but hey, that's just me. I would have said the same about Man-Bat.

This is pretty much what I meant, actually, but more technical and clear. I'm too wordy sometimes and don't quite get my point across....

Ooh, some Shazam sets would be cool. Black Adam. Metal Men could be neat too; it would be a nice change of pace.

It just seems bizarre that they would include obscure villain Ventriloquist in a comic if he had no future relevance to the sets or story, and barely even counts as a proper cameo. He technically isn't fully designed, and to tease him or give him a cameo where the target audience wouldn't know him doesn't make sense.

I'd say he's solid C list by now. His appearances on Batman the Animated Series must have helped his image (Since he was spectacular on that show by the way), and he has had some recent limited face time in the Arkham games. Another interesting point is that I think he'd be far more familiar to kids than many of the Beware the Batman characters (If they appeared in sets)--I'm sure far more kids know who Scarface is compared to Mr. Toad. But, that's besides the point (Oh Nemo...anything to bring up B:TAS... )

I think there is something to be said about showing him in the comic however; afterall it would seem far more likely we'd see other villains already released to fill the character's role instead--unfortunatlely, it may be that we might just need to wait until the next issue is released, so we can then clearly see the character and his importance in the story for a specific reason. Hopefully, he does--since I'd always love to get new characters as opposed to more wardrobe changes for Riddler and Joker.

I just hope to see the theme move farther out of "Remake Batman" territory, with the new wave and hopefully another new villain. Since the DC line was a reboot, it's been disappointingly unoriginal for many of its sets, so I'm glad about and hopeful for new material.

I consider him relatively well-known given his cameo in Arkham City and his recurring appearances in Batman: The Animated Series. I'd say he's a High C, but with major appearances in what's considered one of the greatest cartoons of all time, I'd say he could be easily listed as relatively well-known.

Precisely.

With the vague information on these new DC movies and the confirmation of a Justice League movie coming very soon, I think that we'll really start to see the LEGO DCU expand greatly in the coming years. I can't believe that the Metal Men are getting a movie, though. I mean, I'd barely heard of them until about a year or so ago, and they don't even have the Indie status to buffer their possible failure. Not to say it will be bad, but it just seems so odd of DC to specifically pick them from the mix, even though there's been characters we've been begging to see in live-action (The rest of the Bat-Family, the Teen Titans, etc.). Maybe they're hoping for a Guardians of the Galaxy effect?

Sorry to interrupt the current discussion but would somebody PM or give me the measurements of the Junior Batman Cave? (preferably in cm)

The Ventriloquist is (in my opinion) known just as much as Man-Bat if not more, and seen as how we got Man-Bat in the winter wave I can't see LEGO holding back on making the Ventriloquist and Scarface.

Give me Slade aka Deathstroke over ventriloquist any day! His role in arrow is HUGE now. Plus he has a lot of media centered apon him currently. I'd love to see a set of green arrow (TV show version) and Batman facing Slade and Dark archer. Both villains have featured in arrow but slade is not exclusive to arrow as he is predominantly associated with batman. Interesting seeing so much backstory and plot focussed on him in arrow though. Really adds a certain depth to what some used to consider a simple mercenary for hire. Plus his costume is blue and orange which fits into both arrow and the classic comic designs and would make him slot in nicely with the other villains we have in Lego form. Personally in Future DC sets I'd like to see: Deathstroke, Arrow, Dark Archer, Ras Al Ghul, Black Manta, Clock King, Dead-shot and if we have to have a return villain then scarecrow as he has thus far in this line been inaccessible to anyone who does not own/ Doesn't want to get the asylum breakout. It would make sense as the penguin returned this year after being in the asylum with a IMO far superior variant.

I would much rather have a Origins based Deathstroke. The one in arrow just seemed a little cheesy to me, his helmet didnt look right. :sceptic: Given how much hype was put around him before the launch if the game not to mention the exclusive DLC I would say most kids would know about him.

Wait, are you referring to this version in Arrow, or this one? Because if it's the second one, I whole-heartedly agree with you. If it's the first, you are out of your mind.

I'd even go for this Deathstroke if it meant getting a Deathstroke fig, but honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if he found his way into a set sometime soon. I'm not sure if I've said it here yet, but DC love Deathstroke and if they can stick him in something they will. That's what happened with Son of Batman.

Having a helmeted Deathstroke would mean that the face could be Manu Bennett's eye patched face with double side. They could also include his CW count Dooku style widow peak dark brown hair maybe with white highlights in it.

I don't think we will ever get a deathstroke, the only way i could see one is by a comic con exclusive. Hearing rumors about green lantern and cyborg being in the Batman vs Superman movie, that tells me we will get them when sets for the movie come out. So no Green Lantern for awhile.

Well green Lantern is a whole other arguement, but with Deathstroke I can't see why not. After all Deadpool ( who's a parody of Deathstroke is extremely popular. ) was turned into a figure so I don't see why the couldn't make him. Plus he's appearing everywhere these days, young justice, teen titans, beware the batman, Arrow, arkham origins, injustice and countless more appearances. He seems to be the character that DC are pushing big time, oh and he's technically a batman villain which makes it more likely.

I find it odd that the Guardians of the Galaxy sets have no presence on the new LEGO Store calendar. Not even on the back — I'd have expected at least one to appear there. Unless there's been a scheduling change and they're not releasing in June after all?

Posted

The best reason I've seen for not making Deadpool is the printing issue. Which would be easily rectified with a helmet like Flash's. And would preferably look like the one from Arrow, especially after having seen last night's episode.

As Sam892 said, he's a Bats villain technically, so I'd be fine if they had Batman, but if they make Deadpool they better put Green Arrow in the same set. With a motorbike. I mean they always have to put vehicles in, right? Arrow could have his motorbike and Slade could have like an armored truck with a Mirakuru henchman or something (Just to get another mask :3 ) And Bats could have another Batmobile or a Bat-bike depending on the size of the set.

... ...

I think it must have been because I saw "Deadpool" in the middle of Sam's post right before writing mine  Plus it was late.

arg... This worries me... Lego changes it scheduling far too much!

Hopefully it isn't a scheduling change and more so that they are going to promote the sets and push them when the movie actually comes out. That way they get people (like me) who will buy them the day they are out, and then there will be those who wait to see the movie and decide on buying them depending on their opinion of the movie.

After watching episodes 13-15 of beware the batman I realise surely soon it should be time to see Ras in a set. Lego can't claim that beware is no longer successful enough to continue tying in cause it recently was nominated for a daytime emmy and it is returning to TV in July (perhaps to coincide with bat's 75th?). I could potentially see a future set involving Ras at least but maybe katana and badass Alfred as well. Their designs would lend themselves well to Lego representation and would finally allow Alfred into a set in an action role. Obviously with another vehicle or maybe Wayne manor. Maybe as Deathstroke also turns up in episode 22 they could do a set with Ras, stroke and a goon attacking Wayne manor in a vehicle and have Arrow, Alfred and Black Beware Batman variant seen on the calendar fighting them maybe with katana as an extra. As both arrow and beware have dealings with the league and Deathstroke in their current series it would hit two birds with one stone so to speak.
