strangely Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I keep thinking along similar lines. One more addition would have made the cost more bearable. Who would've been a good fit, do you think? I imagine an Xavier figure would only raise the cost. I would like an Xavier, but I don't think his inclusion would have been fitting. The X-jet is a bit cramped for a wheelchair (Plus I'd rather save him for an X-mansion). I think Jean Grey would have made sense. Though maybe Mystique would have been better, if only to even out the heroes to villains ratio. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 If the X-Jet hadn't included two characters that we already got, I'd also feel better about it. Sure, it's great to Wolverine's mask and all, but really a fifty buck set with only two new characters is a big let-down. By comparison the Hulk Smash set had a lot of goodness going on MF-wise, and even with Thor the new version was significantly different. I love X-Men, but ultimately the X-Jet doesn't feel like it's worth buying. Maybe I'll get it anyways and feel bad about it, but it's a major let-down. Quote
Colossus Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) The X-Jet set is a major let-down, especially for the price. Shoulda put more effort into the minifigures and done a better job on the jet, especially seeing what was done to make the quinet look so spectacular. That cheesy Sentinel is a waste of bricks. Seems like a cheap way to justify a $50 pricetag. It should have been designed better and sold as its own set. Edited May 7, 2014 by Colossus Quote
Im a brickmaster. Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 I like the jet. You gotta keep in mind they TRY, mind you, to keep everyone happy with a build and figures that appel to fans of all ages, the large majority being, kids! I can always agree in the world we live in, that the price is about ten bucks to much. I also think perhaps a Rogue minifig or some villan would ease the pain a bit. Bottom line, IM going to get it Don't hate on the little kids stuff, man! Quote
Marvelfan120 Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 (edited) I too like the jet... I agree that the Sentinal is a bit lame (not to metion that Magneto) but I'm a glass half full guy and at least we get Cyclops, Storm and Wolverine with a Cowl... with a cowl! Edited May 7, 2014 by Marvelfan120 Quote
Clone OPatra Posted May 7, 2014 Posted May 7, 2014 Don't hate on the little kids stuff, man! I'll absolutely hate on sets that I feel deserve it. I don't think any designer here was 'being lazy' and I would never say so, but the set is still unappealing and a major let down, especially for being the second set which has finally had some X-Men. The Marvel Superheroes line has had quite a lot of sets in all price categories that really knock it out of the park, but this isn't one of them. The Sentinal is perhaps a valiant effort for the size that LEGO wished to market, but it still looks rather silly. The minifigure selection is, as I voiced earlier, sad, with just two new characters. I'm actually strongly inclined to think that just one more new character would have made me feel significantly differently about it. As it is, I've never been a huge fan of Wolverine's cowl look anyway, and this look for Magneto isn't terrific. I completely understand why Wolverine and Magneto are included, but for anybody with the first X-Men set this one is really crying out for another new character, be it an X-Man or perhaps Mystique. The argument that it's a kid's toy so we're not allowed to have any standards just doesn't fly. Besides, even children can dislike things. I had some sets that I thought were pretty lousy as a child. The only thing I can think of is that perhaps LEGO is treating Wolverine and Magneto as they treat Spider-Man or Batman. Not every kid got the first X-Men set, and it has been out of stock for quite sometime now so maybe LEGO just seems Wolverine and Magneto as favorites of the kids and wants to give them more of an opportunity to get them? At least they are offering a variant on the characters as opposed to Spidey Quote
Colossus Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Sorry, all. I may have been a smidge too harsh on the Black(BLUE)bird set. I'm just very (sob) sensitive when it comes to The X-Men. The designers do an excellent job making builds that have to fit within a price point. I should have said the set was planned poorly, not designed poorly. The Blackbird and Sentinel could each have been great enough to stand on their own. It's just that too much was crammed into one set, making both Sentinel and Blackbird mere shadows of what they could have been. Hell, I woulda settled for a Bionicle-type Sentinel. Throw in a Colossus big fig, Rogue, Gambit, and Archangel or something; The X-Men powerhouses. Instant win! Quote
Spider-Man Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Hopefully the set still sells well despite it's flaws and signals to LEGO that there is a big market for X-Men Quote
Colossus Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) This is true. Edited May 8, 2014 by Colossus Quote
wesker Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I'm pretty satisfied with the Blackbird. Its a lot smaller than what I would have liked but its still a well designed set. The Sentinel should have definitely been a separate release though. Something around the size of the Ent from the Tower of Orthanc set would have been perfect! Quote
gundamz Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 I think the Blackbird is the right size, though as I said, my issue with it is that it looks rather generic. But, I understand the designers has to work with what they've got. The Sentinel, IMO, doesn't look too good. First, it is missing its beanie (aka watchcap, for those who prefer that term). Yes, that is important to me. Second, it's arms and legs are too spindly. It doesn't look menacing enough. This is what Sentinel should look like: http://www.hcrealms.com/units/dofp001.jpg The minifigures are also a let down. Only 2 new minifigures (not counting figures of characters we already have but with a different design). Also, Cyclops' suit design is rather plain as it is basically just blue all over. I greatly prefer his 90s costume where he's not wearing anything on his head and where he has a distinctly yellow and blue costume. Like this: http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20061127160342/marveldatabase/images/e/e2/Scott_Summers_(Earth-616)_013.jpg. I think Storm looks pretty cool though. Quote
phanstasm Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 (edited) I've stayed away from this topic for a while to avoid the movie spoilers, so I don't know if this has already been posted. It looks like there's a chance we might see the Batman villains Scarface and the Ventriloquist in an upcoming set. The talented Lego comic illustrator "Polywen" has featured the characters in an upcoming Lego Club comic. You can see them next to Scarecrow in the bottom left panel of the image below (link to full size: https://www.flickr.c...ly/13888550427/). Let the speculation begin! Speculation began and ended a while back. It's interesting for sure, but there's no way to know if it will happen. Really they didn't even show us a full design, just a hat and a new hairpiece, which isn't a lot to go on. Quote

On Xavier, must he have a seat in the X-Jet necessarily? Perhaps the story would go that him and Magneto are having an altercation while the X-Men deal with the Sentinel. Not every kid got the first X-Men set, and it has been out of stock for quite sometime now so maybe LEGO just seems Wolverine and Magneto as favorites of the kids and wants to give them more of an opportunity to get them? Right. That's something to remember. Quote

Sir Brickalot Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 The more I look at the X-Men set, the more I want it. GIMME X-MEN! Quote

Robianco Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 There's actually a bootleg release of the Helicopter set out now from a company called Bozhi. Even the packaging is totally copied from the Lego on with the Super Heroes logo etc... It's one thing they bootleg the figures but to bootleg a whole set with just the Bozhi logo (in a red square) replacing the Lego one is beyond cheeky. Quote

LEGO need to stop all these ridiculous bootlegs that are coming out of China. It only really happens with the Superheroes line which isn't surprising, but it's still awful. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 It's not just Super Heroes. I've seen bootlegs of Ninjago and TMNT also. Probably whatever is a hot seller for LEGO, they want to capitalize. As far as Super Heroes goes, I want the Blackbird set, but I don't care for most of the figures. In all honesty, I almost just want Storm. Poor Cyclops, he never gets any love.. I originally wanted to get all of the SH sets this year, but then I started analyzing and just picking up the few figures I wanted instead. I've definitely saved money in doing so, but it does upset me that I mostly only buy LEGO for the figures now... Quote
