KingPixels Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I'd have mixed feelings about that. :P Any Mr. Freeze minifigure sporting head printing like the 2006/08 one would be welcome, but I'm not sure how likely that would be mixed with that helmet, considering it'd possibly take inspiration from The Batman. I really liked The Batman, so I wouldn't mind that. For reference: Quote
strangely Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 I'm suddenly reminded of why I disliked The Batman. Arkham or Batman the animated series Mr. Freeze are preferable. Hopefully there will be a Fantastic Four set, that helmet looks pretty awesome. Quote

BFN Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 let's just hope LEGO doesn't take inspiration from The Batman for the Riddler, he possibly had the worst design on the show. After racing-suit Riddler, that variation would actually feel a step closer to the character. :P I really liked The Batman, so I wouldn't mind that. It's a cool design, for sure, but I find it hard to justify from an in-universe standpoint, and the classic goggles/clear helmet look is still the best in my opinion. I'd be thoroughly disappointed if LEGO did another Mr. Freeze without goggles; the original's head alone goes for far too much on Bricklink. Quote
8BrickMario Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 (edited) Why on earth would LEGO make sets based on The Batman? It's fairly out of date by now, and the target audience (present-day kids) wouldn't understand it. LEGO makes things for recent or classic properties to cash in on the public's interest. Fritzy Posted May 17, 2014 Posted May 17, 2014 Yeah. For those reasons, I can't see it happening. New DC or Marvel themes/sub-themes would be stellar, though! Quote
dverburg Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 just bought X-Men vs. the Sentinel at a Fred Meyer in Boise, ID. Regular retail price. They had tons and tons. But no Arctic, GOTG or Ultra Agents. Quote
Only Sinner Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Looking forward to a review of the X-Jet. Come on, I know some of you have it already! Quote

Aubeltastic Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Bootleggers don´t make the designs themselves but at least they sell it. Lego chooses to not give us more opportunities to give them money (Megabloks had Marvel CMFs, there is no reason for Lego to not do them) so I am giving my money to people that will take it and don´t play these stupid games of which lone JL member to release this year. If only these Bootlegs were available outside of USA, that is. Lego is like the old business that thinks they can go through with their plans without realizing the steady growth of the internet and its redneckbeard people on it that customize and sell something everyone needs and wants. Of course it's stupid, thinking they can wait and - until then - sell some of these or those figures in order for the people to buy those instead and only THEN release the other ones later on down the line. Expecting neckbeards to buy them all... but it kinda works, so eh. And they are available outside the US, my dear Aubel. Chinatown stores around the globe, Poland's huge black market, flea marts and of course ebay itself are oppurtunities to get THE figure you always wanted, but would never buy anyway. Quote
Numbuh1Nerd Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 I really loved The Batman. It wasn't afraid to be different with it's interpretations. While I don't think that LEGO should use a whole lot of those designs, it would be nice to see Mr. Freeze like that were we ever to get a fresh variant for him. If they're going to do variants they might as well be very different instead of just wearing a coat (Seriously, Penguin, Joker, Riddler, what's with these guys and jackets?) or being those lame action-figure-y variants like their doing with the Ninja Turtles theme or Arctic Suit Batman. They could just as easily give us some nerdy goodies. Speaking of that flame-head piece, over on the purist Superheroes thread someone had a very good Agent Coulson using a recent head from the new Star Wars sets that fit him perfectly. Almost too perfectly, given it's a head that would normally be covered up by one of those big gaudy expendable Star Wars trooper helmets. Somebody earlier said something about Ghost Rider becoming very easy to purist with that piece in circulation. Maybe LEGO's doing this on purpose? Silently tossing us these perfect pieces for characters that they don't plan on making? Of course, with the new flame-head piece they're going to use that for any number of other characters. Even if this is just coincidence, maybe LEGO should start secretly supplying us with perfect purist parts? Quote
just2good Posted May 18, 2014 Author Posted May 18, 2014 The new Spider-Man polybag is out at most Toys"R"Us stores. It's awful, I wouldn't pick it up unless you're a completionist or you want to make some custom Spideys. Quote
Fritzy Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 The missiles look like Tic Tacs! Haha. Good to know I should avoid this one. Quote

Godtshep Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I actually don't think the model is too bad-it's definitely better than the Spider-Trike! Quote
BrickBuilder3213 Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 This is kinda off topic... But, has anyone bought the Chima Gorilla Legend Beast just to alter it into Gorilla Grodd? I thought that would be an interesting idea for those who want an enemy for Flash... Quote
just2good Posted May 19, 2014 Author Posted May 19, 2014 I got the X-Men set at my LEGO Store today! Please note, I say X-Jet instead of Blackbird quite a lot throughout the review. I realized this later on, so I do apologize. Overall, this set is surprisingly really good! The Blackbird itself has an awesome interior, and the exterior design, while a bit small, is sleek and swooshable. The minifigures are fantastic, and while there's only four, the printing on them is stellar (as are the moulds). The Sentinel is funny but very articulate, and is more of an action figure than a display piece. Quote
8BrickMario Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) Awesome review. I like the Sentinel's dance moves! The Blackbird looks really great, and Storm is probably my favorite minifigure, and she's one of my favorite X-Men, too. It's nice to see a neutral black female face (Stass Allie had purple eyes), and I love her arm-cape. I would have preferred a comic version, but it matches the movie well, and it's nice to see the hairpiece in white. Edited May 20, 2014 by 8BrickMario Quote

I thought that would be an interesting idea for those who want an enemy for Flash... I know lots of people have used the CMF Gorilla suit and the Chima gorilla minifigs to make custom Grodds, but not the actual brick-built ape. Also, that is kinda off topic, but it's totally on topic over at the Purist Superhero Figures thread! There's lots of great stuff over there to fill the cracks in the Superhero theme so I encourage you to check it out! Awesome review. I like the Sentinel's dance moves! That is very much the Storm from the comics. The more I look at the figure though, the less I like it. I'm not even sure why. Quote
TheBatstan Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I knew the X Men set had promising results! The Blackbird (more like the Bluebird) looks great, the minifigs look great. Just the price is atrocious, $50 USD usually means $60 CAD up here Quote

I thought the set was movie-based (somehow, don't know why), and assumed it was to match, but it just seems to be slightly different comic designs. The only difference is the hair which could be better, but is fine as is. I still like her, though her "storm eyes" face doesn't appeal to me much, Edited May 20, 2014 by 8BrickMario Quote
