HawkLord Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Found the X-Men set at Fred Meyers - they had probably ten copies. Quote
just2good Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 Awesome review. I like the Sentinel's dance moves! The Blackbird looks really great, and Storm is probably my favorite minifigure, and she's one of my favorite X-Men, too. It's nice to see a neutral black female face (Stass Allie had purple eyes), and I love her arm-cape. I would have preferred a comic version, but it matches the movie well, and it's nice to see the hairpiece in white. I knew the X Men set had promising results! The Blackbird (more like the Bluebird) looks great, the minifigs look great. Just the price is atrocious, $50 USD usually means $60 CAD up here Thank y'all! The price is the worst part. Storm is also my favorite minifigure in this one! So glad we're getting a neutral face black female! Found the X-Men set at Fred Meyers - they had probably ten copies. Sweet! Us Southerners don't have Fred Meyers, but that's good to hear! Quote
Captain Nemo Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Thanks for the video-review just2good! I have to say I'm really excited to get this set. I love the X-men characters, and I think the jet looks spectacular. Although, I do think I'd mod a few things; such as beefing up the Sentinel so he's not so thin; and I'd actually want to fit some more seats in the jet, I'm sure it could seat six! Thank y'all! The price is the worst part. Storm is also my favorite minifigure in this one! So glad we're getting a neutral face black female! You are a bit right on this; however I have to say I'm far happier paying 50 for this set then the Joker's Steamroller set--and I'm first and foremost a Batman fan! Quote
squirtlepower Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Nice review, thanks. Really pumped to get this set, X-men are my favorite from the marvel universe and I've been disappointed with the lack of lego sets. Debating on getting 2 sets, gonna need more than 1 sentinal, plus a second blackbird might aid in building a larger version overall. Could you possibly take a picture of the older Wolverine wearing the new mask? Thank you. Quote

This set is miles ahead of the Steam Roller set. There's only two cool figures in that set compared to all for figures in this one being awesome, and it is apparant the focus on the one vehicle in this one (the Blackbird) has helped make it look sleek and fun. Nice review, thanks. Really pumped to get this set, X-men are my favorite from the marvel universe and I've been disappointed with the lack of lego sets. Fritzy Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) Nice job and congrats on finding the set, just2good. Glad you're enjoying it. And thanks for the pics, as usual. The ship looks good from the back view. Just the price is atrocious, $50 USD usually means $60 CAD up here Ugh, I know. Crazy. Definitely have to wait for a sale on this one... Looks like I won't be buying it from the LEGO store. Also, just as a side note, I read a note on Reddit that the GotG sets won't be sold at the LEGO store until June 1st, so for those who've been on the hunt for early set releases, TRU may be your only option. edit: Just saw the Wolverine pics. The back printing is a nice touch! Edited May 20, 2014 by Fritzy Quote

Cammo Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Thx Just2good for the review. No sign of the Guardians sets? It's not like they spoil the movie or something and therefore have to be released later on... Weren't the Lone Ranger sets released in May as well last year? Quote
legofreak86 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 The reason I think the sentinel is that size is because in the new movie the past sentinels are that size as to a person they look about 3 times taller and the same applies with this and the minfigure. My guess is when designing this set, Lego saw the designs of the movie sentinels and noted their height and decided to use the height of the movie ones to allow interact-ability with the human size figures. In essence this seems very DOFP similar. In the trailers we keep seeing the Jet and the purple sentinels. Plus magneto's outfit is when he briefly became headmaster at Xavier's school and an ally to the X-men. Although he is fighting storm on the box I like to think he is fighting the sentinel as it would seek to kill him too. I think the wolverine in this set is an older version to the last one perhaps another influence from FOX as in the alternate ending of the wolverine (2013) we see him being given a modern styling of the brown and yellow complete with mask. Plus the face looks more mature and the facial hair is more prominent exactly like the DOFP film version. Both likenesses are based on Hugh Jackman no doubt but I think the new one is meant to be older. Quote
montgocloud Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Is anyone else finding the X-Jet at their local LEGO store? I'd hate to drive there for nothing Quote

Zilcho Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 After watching the trailers it looks like Groot isn't much bigger than the other Guardians, but in the sets he is a lot bigger... hmmm Quote
TheLegoDr Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 ^Someone said in the movie his character can change size based on wood he touches or intakes?? I don't know much about it, but I guess his size changes. Quote
legofreak86 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Hope the guardians sets come out in the UK in June. I was Hoping to pick them all up in one go with the X-Men set as they look like really cool sets and the movie looks incredible. Quote
Sam892 Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 After watching the trailers it looks like Groot isn't much bigger than the other Guardians, but in the sets he is a lot bigger... hmmm It's part of Groot's powers heres what Wikipedia says about it wiki quote Groot can absorb wood as food, with the ability to rebuild himself and enhance his strength. He can control trees, using them to attack others, and also appears to be resistant to fire. He is able to sprout, dramatically increasing his mass but also severely inhibiting his movement. Groot has been seemingly killed on three occasions, each time regrowing from a sprig. Due to Groot's lineage, coming from an ancient and ennobled sap-line and being the scion of an elite royal house, Groot has received the finest education from the most gifted of tutors. He is highly intelligent and has a tremendous grasp of quasi-dimensional super-positional engineering. Quote
Rinzler Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 This is kinda off topic... But, has anyone bought the Chima Gorilla Legend Beast just to alter it into Gorilla Grodd? I thought that would be an interesting idea for those who want an enemy for Flash... I had that idea in January Quote

Numbuh1Nerd Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Hey, so is Wolverine's mask rubber or hard plastic? Quote
just2good Posted May 20, 2014 Author Posted May 20, 2014 Hey, so is Wolverine's mask rubber or hard plastic? Hard plastic, and didn't even come in the China-made bag! Nice review, thanks. Really pumped to get this set, X-men are my favorite from the marvel universe and I've been disappointed with the lack of lego sets. Debating on getting 2 sets, gonna need more than 1 sentinal, plus a second blackbird might aid in building a larger version overall. TheBatstan Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I'm kicking myself now for not getting the Chopper Showdown back when it was still available. I could've used the head and cowl from the new set to make the iconic costume. Quote
Colossus Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) My local Lego store had The Blackbird/"Sentinel" set available, and I just hadsta get it. While the Sentinel is just as disappointing in hand as in the pics, I have to say The Blackbird is a very intriguing build. I wouldn't have thought that a vehicle this size was gonna look as good as it does with so few bricks. A couple sections reminded me of The Quinjet build, and I dig that tapered look along the fuselage. It's too bad the @ss end of the plane is so puny. It looks really outta scale. But the cool thing about LEGO is being able to build whatever I can imagine. And, in the end it works out for my whole family! My son loves the Sentinel, my daughter has claimed Storm, I have Wolvie with a cowl, and my wife has no idea I dropped 50 clams on more LEGO. Win/win/win/blissful ignorance.
