TheLegoExperience Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 I actually think that would be a fun set, especially if they throw in a new villain and Justice Leaguer. It's still better than a Spider-trike. EVERYTHING can be better than the Spider-Trike. When the only redeeming thing for that was the Electro minifigure. Definitively one of the worst sets this year. Faefrost Posted June 27, 2014 Posted June 27, 2014 Ooo! One thing of interest, since we are talking about Heroes with recognizable Swooshable vehicles. It is pretty much all but confirmed that Blue Beetle will be a recurring character in the third season of Arrow. Given all of the wonderful parts from Galaxy Squad, and the fact that Between Arrow and Flash we are seeing a steadily increasing amount of real costumed heroes on the small screen, might we be seeing a set or two surrounding some of those characters? Even if not there TV versions. A classic Blue Beetle Bug would be a no brainer in Lego these days. Quote

Green Arrow so far has only appeared as an exclusive. Green Arrow doesn't seem to have a prominent role in the next Batman game. This makes me think that Green Arrow will not appear in a set, and that could mean only two ways Blue Beetle could be released. Number one as a March exclusive, which I always look forward to; or number two, as a SDCC exclusive, which is the number one thing i hate about the theme. Hopefully though, LEGO will prove me wrong. Well, we got Aquaman before Flash, Green Lantern, Cyborg, and Martian Manhunter who were all more prominent in LB2 than him. I think he only had a cameo in the story. I would be surprised to see Green Arrow or Blue Beetle next year though, unless it is as an exclusive. But it would be a pleasant surprise.... Edited June 28, 2014 by Super Fish Oil Quote

Colossus Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 As I understood it, I'm guessing he's referring to the near-infinite variety of bat-themed vehicles TLG can produce for Batman sets. Batmobiles, Batboats, Batwings, Batcycles, Batsubs, Batcopters, BatUVs, Batsubs, Battanks, Batsmartcars, Batsegways, Batrockets… large, small, Arctic, black, dark blue/gray, they can always come up with a new iteration to fill out a set. While the potential for minifigs is tremendous even when you step out of the Batman area, it becomes a little trickier to fill out a set. Not many other superheroes have as much in the way of easily-identifiable transportation or home bases. Sure, with enough digging you can find all sorts of goofy vehicles for Spider-Man, Green Arrow, and Superman…but would it be worth making a set built around it? I think probably 'yes', tho they'll be awfully silly (like Superman's Supermobile--with extending mechanical punching-arms!). In absence of silly non-Bat vehicles or stuff like Riddler's dragster, there's mech suits like Lex's power suit (would be great for Metallo!), there's various City-type vehicles like the armored truck in the Doc Ock set for bank heists & the like, but I imagine it's more of a challenge to craft compelling sets in various sizes around all those characters. With Batman, it's easy: hero, villain, maybe a sidekick and/or henchmen, maybe a colorful enemy vehicle, and some Bat-vehicle. Rinse, repeat. You said the word, "Bat", like a thousand times. : ) While I'm sure Lego designers could make some fantastic vehicles for any hero, I think it comes down to what DC is willing to market. I think DC is so spooked thinking that nothing but Bat-stuff sells. Think about the recent non-movie related Marvel sets that have been released: MODOK's lab, The Daily Bugle. DC characters could easily be swapped into a similar environment-type set. Make a lab for Braniac, make The Daily Planet. Or, looking at the Avengers' Quinjet. Make a JLA Javelin set in a similar size. I dunno, just spitballin' here. Quote
TheLegoExperience Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 (edited) Just March? I always thought there were more then 1 a year.. For Super Heroes, yes, only March. I couldn't tell you the other specials they have... Edited June 28, 2014 by TheLegoExperience Quote
8BrickMario Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 (edited) Well, Marvel and DC want to cram Bats and Spidey down our throats, but LEGO is trying to find ways around it by this point. They are subverting the themes of those two heroes by making sets (Lex's mech and Lab Smash) without the themes' mascot heroes, and inserting secondary heroes into sets as well, (Aquaman, Flash). The movie sets let LEGO branch out while satisfying DC and Marvel. It's not all their fault in the little variety we've gotten, and it's improving. Edited June 28, 2014 by 8BrickMario Quote
Dharkan Posted June 28, 2014 Posted June 28, 2014 Well if I'm not wrong, Lego can pay for releasing more sets with figures as they please. So I hope Superheroes theme sells good enough that they consider making it a bigger theme like Star Wars. I really do. (because seriously, I'm tired of Star Wars lego, DC and Marvel is more fun) Quote

(because seriously, I'm tired of Star Wars lego, DC and Marvel is more fun) Superheroes has sold extremely well and has officially been designated one of lego's Evergreen themes. (Basically this means it's not going away) It will not surpass SW any time soon, but it is on the same playing field these days. The Theme is slowly and steadily growing. Right now it's biggest drawback is that it involves multiple licenses under a common theme. Quote
legofreak86 Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I just had a thought about the 75th anniversary Batman Exclusive. If its going to be lots of money like I think I heard £179.99 maybe it ties into the Batman WB exhibit and has all the bat vehicles from the movies with the Batmen, and with his villains and allies.Cause at WB they have the vehicles displayed with the costumes currently. Paying Tribute to all the movies would be fantastic. I mean who doesn't want Michael Keaton's Batmobile??! It could include: Keaton Mobile, Forever Mobile, Redbird, Batman and Robin Mobile, Batblade, Tumbler, Batpod. Then figure wise each Batman from each movie, Robin (forever), Batgirl (batman and robin), Alfred, Penguin (returns), Catwoman (Returns), Joker (1989), Riddler (forever),Two Face (forever), Mr Freeze (batman and robin) Poison Ivy (batman and robin), Scarecrow (Begins) ,Ras (neeson), Joker (TDK), Catwoman (TKR), Bane (Coat)(TDKR). Batmen Included would be 1989/Returns suit, Forever (silver suit, with night vision other side of face), Batman and Robin suit dark blue with silver accenting, Begins Suit, TDK suit but in Black. That would be good wouldn't it. Btw surprisingly looking it up Batman Forever's Silver Suit had no nipples, Batman and Robin's end fight suit didn't have any either. It was only the suits used for the majority of the 2 movies and forever's weren't even that noticeable batman and robin's on the other hand were... Quote
Dharkan Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 I'd love if they did 3 batmobiles together as an exclusive set but we probably will end up getting the rumoured tumbler Quote
legofreak86 Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Its unlikely to be the 60s mobile by the way. The WB studio tour isn't even allowed to display any props or the car from the 60s show as they only have the rights to the blu ray/dvd release expected to hit this year du to that being the only thing their deal covered. So a 60s mobile seems out of reach for now. Yeah I guess it will probs be the tumbler but a tribute to cinematic Batman with all the vehicles of the films and all the allies and enemies from them would be frickin awesome. I mean imagine the Keaton mobile with shields feature, machine guns, afterburner, Forever mobile with rotating wheels, grappling hook e.t.c, Tumbler with batpod. That would be pretty awesome. Quote

Such a rights mess doesn´t really prevent Lego from getting the rights. Mattel and several other companies already produced models of the 60s Batmobile and Lego needed joint rights packages for the Back to the Future car and I suppose for the Ghostbuster car, too. And let´s not forget the suspiciously 60s-like-looking car from that one Facebook photo from which we also got hints towards a real version of Astronaut Batman from the game and the purple Superbatman. The UCS set this year is the Tumbler but we will get our 60s Batmobile for sure. Quote

Are you sure DC only have the rights to bluray/ DVDs for the 60's show? As DC produce a monthly comic book series in the 60's TV show that uses all the actors liknesses. They also produced some hot toys statues of 1966 Batman and Robin. Surely they wouldn't be able to do this without the full rights? Edited June 29, 2014 by Sam892 Quote

While 20th Century Fox owns rights to the footage of the Batman '66 series, DC owns the rights to the likeness and trademark of the '66 Batman. Lego could easily make the '66 Batmobile and get away with it because DC owns its likeness. http://www.bleedingcool.com/2013/07/14/what-do-have-planned-for-the-66-batman-show-at-comic-con/ Quote

BrickyNolan35 Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Even though the new season of ultimate spiderman will be web warriors I think that there will be episodes seperate from that theme which most likely lego will base its sets on if it produces any. I think this because next week there is an episode titled "Return of the Guardians of the Galaxy" and it doesn't seem like that one be the season premier episode. Quote
legofreak86 Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Thanks. It was a combination of watching all the films back on Blu Ray (apart from Batman and Robin) and watching the TDKR featurette about the history of the Batmobile. Oops!
