And Doc Ocks fig you talked about has green legs with only the front having white printing. If Ock were a game-only character they would have made the white of the labcoat around the whole leg part like how they did with Connors.

Pic of Ocks fig in the game

For the same reason I also think Electro from the game will be a toy since his legs are fully green when normally they would have boot and underpants printing.

When he is identical with a comic design it is a comic-figure. Movies never translate the comic design 1:1 only partly or completely retooled.

I hope you are right! Game ock is the best design yet. The face makes me instantly think of the 1994 animated television show as does the lab coat and outfit. Handy thing there also is that with those hooks on hoses you'll be able to have your doc ock supported by his claws when posed but you can probably turn the arm's round for when he uses then whilst standing on the ground! the perfect compromise. So villain wise this year could be amazing: A better doc ock, Ultimate Goblin, Modok, winter soldier, whoever the black hooded guy was and electro? That's a villain packed year finally our marvel rogues gallery can catch up with the ever growing DC/Batman multitude of villains. That's possibly six new villains for 2014. plus there are still the Xmen sets which could give us some more villains. Maybe if they are DOFP sets we could get magneto (film version).

Sandman, Electro, Doc Oc, Kraven, Mysterio, and the Vulture are the original and the ultimate Sinister Six has green goblin instead of mysterio. If we do get sinister six, my guess is that beetle will be on the team because he's a member in the ultimate cartoon.

Im not a big fan of the Doc Ock in the game but I did like the old one but once again the set was not that good, Im hopping for great sets this time around

In my opinion the new doc ock is pretty cool however i am concerned about the tentacles, As the old tentacles were clicky pins they were controllable and could be positioned how you wish, However new doc ock has tubes for tentacles meaning they dont stay where you put them. Though im sure this can be sorted somehow.

On another note who wants a galactus clock!!

Yeah USM Sinister Six is Beetle, Ock, Electro, Lizard, Rhino, and Kraven.

If we get Ock again it'll be his seson two look, which really isn't that different except the face with goggles and some scars.

And yes why would a game only vehicle need net launchers? That's probbly the set with Goblin, the copter for Spidey and a second person (White Tiger, Power Man or Coulson) and the Glider for Gobbie. But how would the do his bombs if he's a big fig? Please no catapult type launchers

I suppose the tentacles wouldn't be a problem if the set had a lot of places for him to grab onto. When the tentacles are hooked to something they should stay in place. Or I suppose Lego could redesign the tube with some sort of wiring inside to allow it to be posed.

To each his own. I actually thought that the Ultimate Spider Man version of doctor octopus in the show was an insult to the character. I only bought the set with him in as Spidey was included and even if the inspiration for the design of the character was flawed it was still doc ock and I didn't get the 2004 one so this was the only opportunity (I figured) to get a doc ock in a set. However if the comic version is the one in the next year set I will welcome it with open arms opposed to the joke that the ultimate one was. The old 2004 version though will never be replaced however as Alfred Molina's performance was so pitch perfect it defined how the character should be played in cinema.

Please, try to keep the TMNT discussion and news in the dedicated topic. Thanks. :classic:

You say that but the discussion was relating TMNT and Marvel -together- (specifically the marketable comparison of the two) and when talking about that in the TMNT thread I was told to come here. It's a circle if you've notice ;p.

The Spider-Copter in the game has a net launcher. Why would a game-only vehicle need a net launcher? I don´t think we will be able to either capture or beat up people in the game so it´s probably because the actual toy has a netlauncher and they don´t want to replace it with more flickfire missiles. The description of that Spidey set with a vehicle with two rotors on its sides and the price point of 35 - 50€ fits the model in the pic below.

I think you're spot on there. It makes sense since the aquaman set was based off the videogame model.

Well if you go to Brickipedia and see Power Man's picture, he pretty much has the USM costume minus the hair.

So we may get him this wave and Agent Coulson, maybe another year for White Tiger

I actually hope at some point we get the classic variant Green Goblin like in the game, I think he looks awesome like that. Also I really hope that when/if we see the Green Goblin in the ASM2 we don't see a similar design to the USM design as I really hate that and I defiantly don't want to see that in a film. I would much prefer to see a design similar to his Original trilogy one, I did really like that a lot. Probably going off topic there so sorry for that.

I heard a rumor a while ago that the Green Goblin(from ASM2) will be simiral to the Green Goblin from Sam Raimi's Spiderman movie. And I hope this rumor is true since I'm not a fan of the USM Green Goblin's version.

I hope not. I want him to actually turn into a crazed goblin like in the comics, not just put some suit of armor on. :/ And I don't want him to be like the USM one either..

Bring me the purple pajama hat, elf boots, man purse wearing version of The Green Goblin! Sometimes a man in a green mask wreaking havok is better than a genetically altered musclebound freak with homicidal tendencies. Less is more, I say.

I wonder if the sets we are assuming are "Avengers: Assemble" and "Ultimate Spider-Man" are actually sets based off the videogame. Think about it, Marvel has been promoting this game like crazy. Variant comic covers, constant advertisements in the comics, etc. I wonder if they would go as far as to commission a few sets based off the game.

Just a theory.

That would make sense....

That sounds plausible.

I was just thinking that too, the lab set sounds like a level in the game. I would prefer game based sets over ones based on the TV series. Was a spider helicopter ever featured in USM? Or was it just something made up for the game? If so, there is a good chance the sets are based on the game. Which in turn is based off many renditions.

Well besides the Spider-Cycle, Power Bike and S.H.I.E.L.D. vehicles, therw isnt a whole lot to wotk from. lego could just be doing. What other toy companies do, put things that are not in the source materil and make a toy out of it

Ok, someone smarter than me (judging by the wonderful MOCs on this site, this is probably most of you) please help me understand something, from a marketing/industry standpoint...how can these games be made with no plans to actually make the minifigs and sets? It just seems like a total no-brainer to sell more games AND more LEGO.

LEGO can only put out a certain number of sets each year or they'll oversaturate the market: there will be more sets produced than the LEGO-buying audience can afford. LEGO selects the number of sets to produce based on the number that stores are willing to provide shelf space for, which is in turn based on how well those LEGO themes have sold for those retailers in the past.

Furthermore, designing models for a game like this is much less work than designing sets. In a game, the models basically just have to look good. In contrast, actual sets have to be tested with focus groups, tested for stability, designed for various specific price points to maximize sales, etc. In the case of licensed themes, they also will make much more money if they are designed to tie in with franchises that are going to be receiving a huge marketing push, specifically new movies and heavily-promoted cartoons.

Also, some of the LEGO games have had far fewer "unique" minifigures and models that hadn't previously appeared as sets. The LEGO Super Heroes theme simply hasn't existed for long enough to include every character that Marvel fans would want to see in a video game. Not to mention that some characters command more of an audience than others, so the more obscure a character is, the less likely they are to appear in sets. A video game offers the freedom to indulge in the full freedom of the Marvel brand, without worrying about which characters sell better than others. The more characters, the wider the net it casts for fans of Marvel characters familiar and obscure. Whereas including more obscure characters in sets is tantamount to designing intentional shelfwarmers.

It probably comes down to licensing issues. The owners of the property ultimately dictate what's made into a set. Also they dictate how many sets are made. So ultimately they choose to put the focus only on certain characters and vehicles, what's most popular and most likely to sell. And realistically there's no way for Lego to put out all those characters and vehicles, it would take years to produce the hundreds of characters that get featured in those games.

Plus the content in those games isn't actually done by Lego, except for existing character and vehicles that Lego has already designed. So the minifigures and vehicles designed by the video game company might not reflect what the copyright holder of the characters wants, so that's an issue as well. Plus those game only characters are usually designed in a way that Lego wouldn't want to spend money reproducing (Excessive leg printing, arm printing and new molds would prove costly for Lego to do which is why the minifigures we do get are simplified)

Now genuinely Lego could do more, and it looks as if next year will attempt to incorporate game stuff into the sets more than they have previously.
