SlimShady Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Yeah, Nightwing's glider isn't very versatile and it could be more aerodynamic ... They've done great work with Penguin and Scuba Batman, it's nice to see Penguin in so cheap set ... Quote
greeny Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I think I'll be getting both of these! I like the design of the Bat copter but I agree with Wesker that Nightwing's jetpack is pretty stupid. It would have been nice if we got Nightwing's bike instead but I guess the action of this set takes place in the sky! I'm happy to get Penguin in a cheap set but that Diver Batsuit looks awful Quote
Legoman123 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Is that a new torso on Penguin I can see! I hope so, because I have the Arkham Asylum set with the Penguin in it. If it is a new Penguin I will defiantly buy that set. Quote
SMC Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 And here they are, two fresh, big pictures of 2014 DC sets. Thanks nice to see real pictures Quote
SMC Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I am on my phone so the pics are small can someone tell me if batman is the one we already have, some where thinking it might be gold but that could be the other set Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Finally at least larger images.......I do like the new Bat-Copter......though I agree on the fact Nightwing's craft is a little lame.......but remember it's all about Batman isn't it eh ? Quote
Mr. Elijah Timms Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Wow, I never realized how small that Bat-Copter was. It can't be much longer than the Joker's in the BatWing set. We can also now confirm that Batman has a new head print in the Penguin set, with a respirator and blue eyes. Very nice. Quote
Legoman123 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I think the other thing that Penguin is holding (not the umbrella) is supposed to be his cigar. Quote
strangely Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I think the other thing that Penguin is holding (not the umbrella) is supposed to be his cigar. In his left hand is the device he uses to control the penguins. If Lego put a cigar in one of their sets they would be in so much trouble, it would literally make the news if they did that. Quote
lightningtiger Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 (edited) I think the other thing that Penguin is holding (not the umbrella) is supposed to be his cigar. I would say the other thing Penguin is holding is a controller for his army of penguins......perhaps a detonator ? Edit - dam, beaten to it ! Edited November 2, 2013 by lightningtiger Quote
Cammo Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I wonder which colour the Penguin's pants are. The pink colours looked kind of goofy on him in the AA-set... Quote
TheBrickHitHouse Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Such a shame - the Lego movie gives us this great batplane and batmobile and NEITHER is a set?! How did that occur... Quote
SoupOrFishOil Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I like both of these sets. It's good that they are changing Penguin up a little. I'm a bit disappointed that Nightwing doesn't seem to have his escrima sticks though. Quote
Kez Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Both of those sets look great, l can't wait to see the other updated pictures of the other few sets, thanks Quote
zipper778 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 A new Batman suit with a new face as well! That is going to be a great small set. Now I want to see a clear image of the Joker set. This is looking like a pretty good wave since we're getting two brand new characters. Quote
Repeter Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 (edited) AFOLs make up less than 5% of global LEGO sales. It's enough to be important (which is why TLG has an entire department for adult fan interactions, where KimT and Kevin Hinkle work). But not enough to influence set design. If you want TLG to make more bases, convince German boys (TLG's number one market) that this is what they want. Anecdotal evidence from how "all the kids you know want bases" is not going to get that done. :/ Sorry if I find your 'figures' and slant to be very short-sighted..much like TLG. Figures from 2009 (when the 5% figure was floated to us) do not show what is happening in today's rapidly changing world. These figures also do not show the secondary market activity, of which AFOLs most likely make up the vast bulk of. Labelling observation as 'anecdotal evidence' has long been the fallback argument of the stubborn and the unimaginative (I am not saying this is you, Darth--just how I see that bspecific statement). I am quite sure that in any market research, kids like playing with bases/forts/structures. If you would like to trust a pile corporate research whose main goal is to follow the 'safer' route (in this case, a saturation of vehicles), by all means, it seems as if TLG has your back. I, however, want more and will continue to critique and give anecdotal evidence (the basis of all such research) of what I think could be better. Is that cool with ya, Darth? On topic, thanks for the pics, Slim Shady. I will def scoop that Penguin set, despite no real new figs. I want those cute penguins and that vehicle. That Man-Bat set, however, is a no go. The Man-Bat is just sad--no ripped jeans even? I'm older, so I would much rather have a Nightwing in blue (I assume it's the younger folk who are into the "New 52"? Last, do I really need another Batman in black? For once, the build is the most interesting part of a set, to me. Edited November 2, 2013 by Repeter Quote
Legoman123 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 (edited) Do you guys think Captain America will have a helmet like the Flash minifigure? Edited November 2, 2013 by Legoman123 Quote
Pulp Detective Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 ^ I hope so and I also hope thor will get a helmet. Quote
SlimShady Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 ^ I hope so and I also hope thor will get a helmet. Yeah, if they remade Penguin they should do that with Marvel characters too .... Quote
SMC Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I like both of these sets. It's good that they are changing Penguin up a little. I'm a bit disappointed that Nightwing doesn't seem to have his escrima sticks though. Me too that's the main reason I didn't mind the red as with the sticks it looked good Quote
TheLegoDr Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Thanks for sharing the pictures. These sets look great. I was already planning on buying them, but this confirms it. I love the new figures and a change of clothes for both Penguin AND Batman with the scuba suit. I love everything they have to offer. The sets are decent enough, but I mostly buy them for the figures, so I'm good on both fronts. I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to get your own sticks for Nightwing. Aren't they just the 3L/4L bar? 2014 is a good year for LEGO. Quote
Ceroknight Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Scuba Batman looks so detailed! I'm not too sure about the Man Bat set now though..nothing really appeals to me.. Quote
Brickadiergerard Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Thanks for the pics, Slim. The Penguin set is great: super new print for Penguin and the Scuba Batman is a great addition to the Batmen range; and their vehicles are small and perfectly formed. I'll definitely be getting it. The Batcopter on the other hand is a bit limp I think: Nightwing's weird face print; Manbat being a bit past it thanks to the earlier giant bats we've seen already; and Nightwing's glider being like something made out of a spares box on a rainy afternoon. I can see why TLG produced a Batcopter set, and I'm sure it'll sell well, but it doesn't quite cut it for me - it doesn't have that level of excellence that the Penguin set does. Quote
dviddy Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Sorry if I find your 'figures' and slant to be very short-sighted..much like TLG. I, however, want more and will continue to critique and give anecdotal evidence (the basis of all such research) of what I think could be better. Is that cool with ya, Darth? The 5% figure (while also given in 2009) is still up-to-date as of the end of fiscal year 2013, as per the numbers TLG representatives give out at public appearances. And you're right, they don't show secondary market activity, because the secondary market doesn't make TLG any money, and they do not support it. Your appeal to the secondary market as some sort of point that adults buy more than TLG's numbers indicate is, well, a tad on the ridiculous side. By its definition, those are sets that TLG has already made their money off of through the primary sale. TLG cares only about "first sale". They are a company that wants to expand profits and make money. Labeling evidence given through story as "merely anecdotal" is not a blow-off statement, it is a factual and statistical response, because that is exactly what it is. TLG invests billions of dollars in research. That is worth far more than your story about some kid you know or some adult collector you talked to at a used toy store or whatever. Anecdotal evidence has a purpose (as it is usually what sparks a company's actual research), but all your post amounts to is "I know what they say but I don't believe them, because there is no way that kids play with their sets in a different way than I do, and there's no way some dumb kids want all these vehicles that market research shows they want, because it's not what I want." You're always welcome to say what you'd prefer and how you'd wish something was different. My point in posting was that all these "bases and forts and locations would sell better" or "why does TLG keep making these characters and not these ones" posts are missing the information that is freely available to AFOLs through TLG's own communications. Kids prefer vehicles in their play, and bases/forts/locations need to be more detailed, hence the higher-price-points for sets that serve as locations. That the more affordable sets are generally vehicles is because kids prefer vehicles for their play purposes. Adults generally collect for either specific parts or for display, which is why we prize things like the modular building line. But we are not the target market, and we, as adult consumers, do not make up enough of the market to be tailored to in a way that compromises TLG's actual base (kids). TLG is a toy. That is sold primarily for children. And as for the character complaints, those decisions are out of TLG's hands, Marvel and DC (and Lucasfilm) tell TLG which characters to use in which settings. TLG then makes them. TLG does not make the character or brand decisions (such as Ultimate Spider-Man vs a Thor2 set). Those are handled by the owners of the property. (And as for the idea that TLG 'plays it safe'... http://knowledge.wharton.upenn.edu/article/how-lego-stopped-thinking-outside-the-box-and-innovated-inside-the-brick/) Quote
Carousel Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Scuba Batman has blue eyes and what appears to be a scuba mask beneath the cowl. The details aside, it's nice to get a different costume variation of Batman! The Penguin set is shaping up to the best small superheroes set to date; it's a overall great package. The Manbat set is fairly meh, I care not for Nightwing and this lacklustre vehicle/facial expressions, I have enough of that black suited Batman, and Manbat is nothing special (probably pick him up individually). The helicopter is pretty nice though, I'll give it that. Currently, I think I'll just get the Steam roller and Penguin sets, and skip the other two. I'll definitely be picking up the new Riddler via bricklink though! Quote
