Would it be a first for LEGO if you have to buy each of the sets to collect parts to make a combined model? They can also divide up the pages of the combined model's instructions among the sets. It would be cool if all the pieces from the black Micro Managers can be used to make the Batmobile.

Maybe this is thinking too far ahead, but I wonder what cool figure they will include in the DVD/Bluray release.

Nope, it's a usual occurrence with the early Bionicle sets.

More spoilers, huh? I'm suprised that TLC is willing to give so much spoilers at the same time. Generally most of the playsets are very different from any existed Lego product, which is good, but many of them are craft and vehicles, and they don't look very cohesive. It could mean that they might just appear in glimpses while other important scenes like the hall of fame are in the final products. It could be less interesting in other aspects.

Obviously there are no licensed characters included (not important, they can still be obtained via ongoing licenses), but it's sad to see no old Lego characters rehashed so we can't get a Johnny Thunder.

About the controversial CMF series, it's surprising to see that most CMF characters don't appear in these sets, but most of the characters appear along with the robots and protagonists look like generic citizens. This decision could be smart but risky, becasue they should retain some exclusive special characters in regular sets. So far the protagonists have their parts exclusive to CMFs: Wyldstyle's western dress, Emmet's hair with helmet, Mr. Business's normal appearance. We don't know if they'll reappear now or in the future.

I don't think so, since the Licensed forum is for sets and themes for which LEGO licensed the rights from outside IP holders, hence the name. LEGO didn't seek a license from itself for this theme, though; if anything, this is more like a theme Warner Bros. licensed from LEGO, rather than the other way around (though of course the movie does involve characters LEGO licensed from Warner, i.e. all those DC Comics characters).

This theme is essentially a mishmash of LEGO's own homegrown themes, and if it were broken down into those then sets from this line (or parts of sets from this line) would really belong in Historic Themes, Action Themes, Pirates, Sci-Fi, Town, etc.

Actually, there've been some more recent sets in other themes that did that, including such current sets as the Legends of CHIMA constraction figures.

Additionally, the first Star Wars minis sets from 2003 also included additional parts to make portions of additional vehicles. Each of the four sets from the first wave came with the parts to make two vehicles (Anakin and Sebulba's pod racers, for example, or Luke's X-wing and Vader's TIE Fighter), plus roughly one-fourth of a TIE Bomber; with all four sets you could make the eight main vehicles, plus the TIE Bomber with parts from all four. The second wave similarly had parts for a Y-wing fighter distributed amongst the four sets, so those four sets combined would make five vehicles, one from each set plus the Y-wing from parts from all four.

Didn't the Exo-Force line also include provisions for combining parts from pairs of sets into larger models?

Okay, real talk. I hate reading comments like this. Not the Time Cruisers bit; that's an apt comparison, considering this is one of the first "blended" themes since Time Cruisers and Time Twisters. Rather, the "smart way to dump excess parts" bit.

Seriously? I see a huge number of parts in these sets that have never shown up before in those colors. In fact, I'd wager that, including the series of Lego Movie Collectible Minifigs, the number of new parts in this theme might outweigh a number of other recent themes Lego's introduced. The logic that Lego would use what will surely be one of their most prominent themes for next year as a "dumping ground" for surplus parts is broken, especially considering that Lego just doesn't produce surplus parts the way they used to. I wish more people would just admit that a zany, eclectic theme like this isn't for them rather than try to make bogus excuses for the theme's existence.

These sets look to have a great variety of parts! I really like that we're getting a tiny bit more Western themed bits.

I get the message that those sets and the movie are all about fun and creativity. I think thats a damn good message for todays kids. But that is not my kind of sets. I prefer lines like Chima or Ninjago over those weird looking sets. I loved the first introduced set with the bike and the police car, but I'm not a big fan of the rest. It's the same with the minifigures. I'll buy 3-4 minifigures and maybe one set and that's it.

My focus is on Sci-Fi, Action and Fantasy Lines. The Lego Movie stuff is "much to city" for me.

I'm inclined to agree. I'm curious how the design process works in this case - obviously, the movie production team has some input, they've storyboarded out the plot and the designs, but who makes the final call on design approvals? But this looks much more like a carefully planned theme, with the outward appearance of randomness.

I'd say I'm most excited about the small Western set, as it won't be as expensive and also includes that cool gun, the silver chicken and even a horse. Hope it'll be a $12 set.

Well, this is the first line since Monster Fighters where I'm dead set on buying the entire line, but props to Lord Business' lair, Cloud Cuckoo Palace, and the vehicles (Add me to the "I want that Ice Cream Truck" bandwagon).

Minifigures aren't too bad either, especially the barista, Shakespeare, Lincoln, and plenty of awesome new molds on figures I'm not to hot on (Like the beehive hairdo on that secretary bot)

It will be interesting to find out if the vehicles were first designed for the movie and then later ported to real sets. Or first designed with real lego bricks and then recreated in the movie. It's seems like a major design guide for the movie is to not cheat and to have realistic LEGO builds and movements (excusing the sometimes impossible but needed movement of minifigure arms). I would not be surprised if they used something equivalent to LDD to get practical builds and then imported the models into the movie.

Quite. And the idea that the best way to get rid of excess stock is to first create a multi-million dollar movie rather than, for example, just sticking them in Pick A Brick walls is clearly crazy.

Wow, anyone else here super excited for the supposed saloon? I'm loving every set just like I thought I would, news is really going by fast! And that Ice Cream truck Oooh I just sound like a McDonalds commercial! Because I really am loving it! Also that wierd looking set with Emmet and the flying police car looks like something pulled out of 2002, I'm just not liking it. Great sets overall and I can't wait to see more. And it looks like an even balance of male-female ratio, and building-vehicle ratio. It is just such a great line, and the minifigures are great? It's all too much to handle

Very hit and miss for me. Still think the Lord Business set is the best, followed by the Fire Transformer robot, Glider and Cloud Cuckoo Palace. Most of the others (along with the fire truck) are forgettable and could be thrown into its own theme called "CITY: Transformed."
