Faefrost Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Nope, it's a usual occurrence with the early Bionicle sets. Here are some subthemes from 2001 to 2004 where 3 sets can be combined into a larger figure with the instructions spit between the sets: http://ww.brickset.com/browse/themes/?theme=Bionicle&subtheme=Toa%20Mata http://ww.brickset.com/browse/themes/?theme=Bionicle&subtheme=Bohrok http://ww.brickset.com/browse/themes/?theme=Bionicle&subtheme=Toa%20Nuva http://ww.brickset.com/browse/themes/?theme=Bionicle&subtheme=Bohrok-Kal http://ww.brickset.com/browse/themes/?theme=Bionicle&subtheme=Rahkshi http://ww.brickset.com/browse/themes/?theme=Bionicle&subtheme=Toa%20Metru http://ww.brickset.com/browse/themes/?theme=Bionicle&subtheme=Vahki And here are a couple of subthemes from 2005 where 2 sets can be combined into a larger figure with the instructions spit between the sets: http://ww.brickset.com/browse/themes/?theme=Bionicle&subtheme=Toa%20Hordika http://ww.brickset.com/browse/themes/?theme=Bionicle&subtheme=Visorak After that, the practice is stopped altogether... The practice wasn't completely abandoned. Three of the 2009-10 Power Miners sets were designed to be combined into one larger vehicle. I believe there may have also been some sort of combined alt model with the Atlantis series as well. Quote
Hey Joe Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Hey, sorry, but these sets look like something my four year old came up with after our City sets were dropped and scattered into pieces. Imaginative is one thing, chaos another, I dunno. The dumpster set might squirrel onto my buy list, but that's about it. I've also been looking for an excuse to stop buying the CMFs, this may be my out. Anyway, I'm sure it'll be a fun movie. Joe Quote
obsidianheart Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Don't forget the Exo-Force combined models! Quote
KingPixels Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 (edited) Which one is the Ice Cream Machine/Tuck? I can't tell. http://farm4.staticf...21ba1631c_o.jpg Also, why is everyone so excited for a possible Johnny Thunder minifig? You can get those off eBay for a couple of dollars. jamesster Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Also, why is everyone so excited for a possible Johnny Thunder minifig? You can get those off eBay for a couple of dollars. Because it's Johnny Thunder. A revamped, modernized version of him appears in the background of the trailers we've seen and we're itching to get it as a real minifigure. Quote
AndyC Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Hey, sorry, but these sets look like something my four year old came up with after our City sets were dropped and scattered into pieces. I think that's intentional. A LEGO movie needs to be more than just a normal movie using minifigs in it, it needs to capture the whole building/rebuilding ethos. I suspect we'll see them in the movie get broken up and rebuilt into these crazy contraptions. I also have a feeling the original designs will probably appeal more to many AFOLs than the wacky alternate designs. Quote
Yooha Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Did anyone watch the Lego Movie webpage for more than one or two days? How often do they unveil the sets? Not as if we hadn't seen them, but still. Maybe the text will help us e.g. what the castle cavalry can be transformed from. Quote
escortmad79 Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Ice cream van only for me, not keen on the rest! I'll get the kebab vendor off BL. On the whole the first wave of sets next year is very disappointing for me! Out of all of them across Lego Movie/City/Friends I'll maybe get 3/4 sets Quote
Temet Nosce Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I've gotta say, I love them all. I really like the idea of a mish mash of sets, I'm sure they will appeal great to kids as well Quote
strangely Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Also, why is everyone so excited for a possible Johnny Thunder minifig? You can get those off eBay for a couple of dollars. Well first off this would probably be an updated version with new printing. Second he's a classic. I for one would love to get a new variation of him. Quote

Fikko3107 Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Actually, there've been some more recent sets in other themes that did that, including such current sets as the Legends of CHIMA constraction figures. Additionally, the first Star Wars minis sets from 2003 also included additional parts to make portions of additional vehicles. Each of the four sets from the first wave came with the parts to make two vehicles (Anakin and Sebulba's pod racers, for example, or Luke's X-wing and Vader's TIE Fighter), plus roughly one-fourth of a TIE Bomber; with all four sets you could make the eight main vehicles, plus the TIE Bomber with parts from all four. The second wave similarly had parts for a Y-wing fighter distributed amongst the four sets, so those four sets combined would make five vehicles, one from each set plus the Y-wing from parts from all four. Didn't the Exo-Force line also include provisions for combining parts from pairs of sets into larger models? The practice wasn't completely abandoned. Three of the 2009-10 Power Miners sets were designed to be combined into one larger vehicle. I believe there may have also been some sort of combined alt model with the Atlantis series as well. Don't forget the Exo-Force combined models! Pardon me, but I was answering the original question as specific as I can. To be technical, those Star Wars Mini Models contained extra pieces, and are not combiner models themselves. Reminds me of those Marvel (specifically X-Men) Action Figures which comes with parts to create an extra figure if you buy em all. Exo-Force sets did not have extra provisions; their combiner models are all built using pieces from the sets. However, these are extra instructions that you need to download online, the ones that are eventually taken down. These instructions are not split between the sets. Ben 10, Chima Constractions, Superheroes Constractions (Both DC and Marvel.), Hero Factory sets from 2011 and above, Friends Animals sets, a single Alpha Team combiner and a single Dino combiner all uses this method. (There might be more, I'm not sure.) Take note that I distinguish "Alternate Models" and "Combiner Models"; those that I just mentioned are all solely Combiner models. I'm not sure about Power Miners and Atlantis, the latter especially. I think Power Miners did have some, although I wouldn't have known since I've really just gotten out of my Dark Ages 3 years ago. I think Power Miners did have combiner builds, but I'm pretty sure they weren't PDF-Weren't they just some inspirational pictures? As a closing note, I'd like to mention that, besides the combiner that is released for the theme, LEGO Club, the website and the magazine, also sometimes create combiner model instructions based on existing sets, though the numbers online are starting to diminish. Personally, if we're getting a Devastator-esque combiner model of the blocky, black robots, I have a feeling they might be under the LEGO Club brand... Quote
just2good Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 According to FBTB, Metalbeard's Duel is $35 in the US and has 412 pieces. Quote
Wodanis Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 After seeing the images I am beginning to wonder if these will be like Lego Creator sets where you can build three in one models or as per the current discussion combine them? Certainly in the case of the Ice cream plane set it looks like you could build an actual ice cream truck. Quote

So it looks it :) I'm looking forward to seeing the alternate builds as well. Quote
Klaus-Dieter Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 (edited) Thank you very much for the pictures! I find the sets , but that's supposably because I'm an adult and not a child. Which I really like are those great new minifigures which are included in every set - a lot of new amazing minifigures you can use for the City theme! So I hope that the minifigures will be available through the customer service seperately since I have no need for all these other parts included in the sets. Otherwise that would get very pricey when buying them via ebay. Klaus-Dieter Edited November 7, 2013 by Klaus-Dieter Quote
lifeinplastic Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Well first off this would probably be an updated version with new printing. Second he's a classic. I for one would love to get a new variation of him. I'm not personally bothered that he's not in the Lego Movie sets. I am bothered, however, that he's not in a current line of available Adventurers sets! Come on Lego, stop messing about with silly mish-mash themes and bring back Johnny T and his foes and followers (and Monster Fighters while you're at it!). Quote
Dorayaki Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Also, why is everyone so excited for a possible Johnny Thunder minifig? You can get those off eBay for a couple of dollars. I'm not his fan, but a redesign still makes difference. Why not? But rather than that, I'd honestly love to see other old characters who even had no physical minifigures. Quote
obsidianheart Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I'd honestly love to see other old characters who even had no physical minifigures. I'd like to see a Clutch Powers figure, despite the fact I've never seen the movie. Quote
Yooha Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 (edited) (picture of JT) Whooa, does he wear flip-flops? Or aren't there toes? I'm not a fan of JT either, I guess because he was in my dark ages. Edited November 8, 2013 by Yooha Quote
JeagerEX Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Once if the sets are released. I hope some Chinese knockoff companies will not bootleg this theme like in Ninjago, TMNT, Marvel, DC and Star Wars. Quote
MECHALEX Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 These are brilliant. They manage to be stylistically eclectic without losing a cohesive form like Time Twisters did (and Monster Fighters to some extent, even though I love that theme) My childhood MOCs were all about theme cross-pollination so these sets (and the film too) sound they really recapture that. TheLegoDr Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 I have kept up pretty well with this thread, but I may have missed a few posts. Anyway, here goes.. To any Cafe Corner builders, it looks like the Metal Beard Duel set has a dark bley parrot again, so that will have easier purchasing again. So almost all of the exclusive Cafe Corner pieces are available through other channels now since many are in current sets. The second floor window panes have been updated (but I changed mine to actual windows anyway) and the top floor windows might be harder to find and the 1x4x5 doors will never exist again (again I modified mine to fit 1x4x6), but other than that I think they all exist again so bricklink prices will hopefully go down. Just to give a heads up. Otherwise, the sets themselves look neat. I will definitely pick up a few, but can probably pass on a good chunk. I was expecting to love this theme since January SW wasn't very appealing, but I guess I can save some money for summer 2014. I was hoping the castle set would have had older figures, not the newest line that I don't care for. Quote
Bricknblue Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Why does the ice cream truck have an Octan sticker on it? Quote
