Since the Emmet minifigure does not have white sparkles in his eyes (it always bothers me when people call them pupils; they don't resemble anything of the sort),

Oh, no I call them "shines" but most everyone else calls them pupils, so I did to be more clear. I honestly don't know why...

Honestly, I'm not fully pleased. I know it's a neat and commercial idea if an original media story provide good theme for actual bricks. However, we should have seen it in previous media including Clutch Powers and City Undercover. If TLC only begins to consider it for newer media, it's dissapointing.

Better late than never, surely? Besides, this is a much bigger enterprise than straight-to-DVD Clutch Powers flick (hopefully better too) or City Undercover game. And wasn't there already this set that's sort of linked to City Undercover.

I have to say I really like this first set and I would buy it but I do wonder how many of the sets will have Emmet and Lucy in and I will probably just buy the one or two sets I like the most. I am not sure how they will get me to want all the sets but maybe they will cant wait to see more. I don really like the whole idea of CMS and I hope I can get the figs I want from the sets but if not those might be my first CMS I get. I didn't even get the London Olympics one, living in east London and loving the whole 2012 thing. Edit I just made myself want some Team GB CMS off to ebay.

Well, yeah. Excluding TV cartoons which aren't original but based on existed themes, the original stories given by other Lego media (video game, direct-to-DVD) can only be known by consumers. The movie story can be more comprehensively known and used in commercial merchandise.

I simply think since there would be 17 sets for this movie story (though no knowing if promotional minor sets count), other stories can at least get more than one set.

Though offtopic, I think the City Undercover game code didn't play a good role in Lego City products. City sets mostly used generic minifigures and scenes, but maybe Undercover can be a subtheme and make 2~3 sets based on the story. The Lego Movie feels more like an independent new action theme.

I'm excited for this! For once we'll be getting some accurate movie sets (I'm looking at you Iron Man 3 Ultimate Showdown ).

Does anyone think we'll get Clutch Powers or Chase McCain figures if they appear in the movie? Or will we be getting Batman in these sets?

Seventeen sets based on one movie seems quite alot. Given that they mentioned that the sets will represent various lego themes from the movie maybe there is hope for a pirate set. This does bring a very curious question. Assuming that there wil be one huge set to be rhe flag ship set of the movie out of he seventeen, what can it possibly be.

Or will lego just produce smaller economical sets since the target audience of the movie will be little kids who would obviously not be able to purchase a bunch of higher priced sets.

I'm imagining we'll get two or three waves. One large one (ten sets or so) at the start of the year then another smaller wave (five sets) in the summer then a tiny wave (two sets) when the DVD is released.

To be honest, I'm expecting one wave. I mean, why not? I also think, for non-licenses, we're only going to see Ninjago, Chima, this, and a little bit of City and Creator next January. Heck, Chima might not even be around.

You never know, TLG might also produce some UCS sets for this film too, like that Big circular hall at the start of the trailer.

There's no reason Chima wouldn't be around at all. I've seen plenty of positive reaction to the Legends of Chima sets among parents of young kids, and the only indication we've seen that Chima isn't doing well (other than purely anecdotal accounts of what lingers on or flies off store shelves, which tend to be contradictory for plenty of themes no matter what their lifespan) is the free Speedorz set given out with orders of a certain size through shop.LEGO.com. Assuming that this IS in fact a response to poor Speedorz sales (and we don't know for certain that it is; could have been a planned marketing campaign), it still only tells us that Speedorz sales have not met expectations. Also, there's no reason to assume that free giveaway will not be effective at improving Speedorz sales.

Now with all this in mind, look at the size of the Legends of Chima line. Currently, there are about 15 regular-issue sets, 16 Speedorz sets, and 6 Constraction sets. That doesn't include sets distributed through irregular channels like the Brickmaster book, polybags, and minifigure accessories set, but still it stands out as a BIG number.

It's entirely possible that Legends of Chima will "fail to meet expectations" for 2013. But not every failure has to be a catastrophic one. If there is not enough of an audience for 37 Legends of Chima sets to be successful, that does not in any way mean that there is not enough of an audience for four to ten Legends of Chima sets to become successful. And it is very common for a large, expansive theme to get a smaller lineup as a final wave. It happened with BIONICLE, and with Exo-Force, and with Space Police III, and with Atlantis, and with Power Miners, among many other examples. Releasing a smaller wave like this allows the LEGO Group to capitalize on any remnants of the theme's popularity without a huge additional investment, and simultaneously it means they can potentially see more of a return on the theme's initial investment. Instead of all that theme's specialized new molds never getting used again, they can reuse them and stand a better chance of getting their money's worth out of them.

So all things considered, I can't think of any reason Legends of Chima would not continue in 2013. But like most themes, there are no guarantees that it will continue at its full strength.

Back on-topic, I think The LEGO Movie will likely have at least two waves of sets. But even if it does have multiple waves they will not necessarily be consecutive. Keep in mind that LEGO will have a vested interest in maintaining the hype for this movie not only through its time in theaters, but also into the time of its home release. But again, a second or third wave will likely be smaller than the first wave, as with most themes.

Seventeen sets does sound like a lot, but they can achieve this since they will have multiple themes across those 17 sets. That will capture a lot of interest among a large variety of fans. As stated above, a wild west set, pirates, castle, city, space, licensed, unique to the movie...the list goes on. Tell me, there aren't LEGO fans that fill those categories.

With that said, 17 at once would be a bit shocking only because of the shelf space needed and to make room for other themes. Plus, if they did cover that many themes, I would end up buying a lot of those 17....not good for my wallet...

Here's a little different of a look of the western place, from Collider:

This is from the game, but I would love to see a set on a western building like this- two floors.

The image above isn't appearing, and it takes a while to find it, so here it is.

It's appearing on my computer. :shrug_oh_well:

I would love to see some concept art for this movie at the panel, so we can get an idea on what these sets will look like.

It's a broken image for me. I think you can see it because you posted it.

I could see it but now I can't, poop.

The brothers brick just posted a picture from Comic Con for the 2 main character's.

I hate to say this, but link? Can't find it on the crappy new Flickr.

They must of removed it.

If you cannot find it at all, they must have removed it. It may still be out there, though.

Cow lick. That's what that bit on the back of his hair is called. A stubborn tuft of hair that refuses to lie flat no matter how hard you comb it or flatten it.

I'm not a fan of Emmet's look. Or Lucy's outfit and hair pink and blue decoration. Lucy could have looked amazing but the pink and blue are just too garish. The vehicle Lucy drives is nice looking but not my sort of thing. It looks unbalanced and clunky.

The robot police are cool. nice vests and the heads are nicely robotic without being over the top. Lovely new weapons and the night vision goggles piece is a sweet addition. Their vehicle is a little overdone but looks a lot nicer than the hero vehicle of the set.

I probably won't buy the set that's been revealed but the robot cop minifigures interest me a lot so i hope there's plenty of them scattered across the other sets.

Emmett also has some comb lines in the front. Lucy isn't too bad, she's just punk.

This is the new trend in cartoons right now, like in the new and successful Pac-Man show airing on Disney XD right now. Don´t have a problem with her, normally main characters only consist of useless pieces (like Emmet) and she at least gets a hoodie, some new neck part and the hair could maybe work with some customization.
