I REALLY want to buy some of these but since I'm not into City stuff (or the new Castle line, Kingdoms was better IMO) so I don't want to get any of the 2 in 1 sets, and I don't want to get back into Collectable Minifigures...I think I'll just get sets with Emmet and the other main characters...Love the Emmet polybag and the Pirate Ship (I would only buy it for the couch and Unikitty though...)

I did find some rumors about the prices of "Bennys ship" and the "Police Dropship".

The LEGO Movie

  • 70814 Emmet’s Construction Mech – 707pcs – $70
  • 70815 Police Dropship – 853 pcs – $100
  • 70816 Benny’s Spaceship – 939 pcs – $125

Seems fairly expensive, given that there is no licensing fee for the theme.

Especially the Dropship. (Thought it would be a 70$ set and Bennys Ship a 90- 100$ set -.-)

And compared to the price of the new AT-AT and its peicecount either the movie sets are too expensive or Lego star wars is getting more affordable .

75054 AT-AT – 1,138 pcs – $120

If Benny really is that price, it is officially off my to buy list.

Maybe for you. $150 is my limit for that set..CLASSIC SPACE...

Also, did anyone notice the cow on Metalbeard's "Sea Cow"?

That space ship is a beauty. Lots of greebles yet still that retro, simplistic look the classic space sets have. Also, SPACE ASTRO-!!KITTY!!! I think Benny's helmet will have the crack printed on it, or possibly sticker-ed. The construction vehicle mech is also amazing, and although less exciting than the spaceship, I just love the bulkiness of the whole thing. The police van, ironically, looks like the ultimate Blacktron spaceship (even though the cage resembles the Space Police I or II cages (I can't remember which)).

With this wave, I'm starting to think these sets pulling space away from other themes is worth it.

If you got to the character page here http://www.lego.com/en-us/movie/explore/characters/benny you can see how I think the helmet will be released...it looks like it has a "crack" sculpted tot he helmet...its not really cracked though...this is different than the actual crack in the movie image. It looks like Benny has a crack but it will be sturdy enough so it does not break. Still wish Benny didn't come with such expensive sets..I'd rather get more mid range priced sets than one large one.

If ever there was a case for stickers, this would be it.

Seriously. I'm getting one no matter what. The price only determines how many more I buy.

The prices for those sets were based on a conversion from the Hungarian store, and as we know some countries pay a premium more than others.

Upon reflection, and the pricing of LEGO Movie sets so far, I would expect:

  • 70814 Emmet’s Construction Mech – 707pcs – $65
  • 70815 Police Dropship – 853 pcs – $80
  • 70816 Benny’s Spaceship – 939 pcs – $90

I'm normally a pro-sticker guy, but you have to be kidding here. Applying a sticker to a surface thinner than a plate would be ridiculously difficult, and there probably wouldn't be enough surface area to keep it attached even during normal use.

You're right. This is just the only time I would prefer a sticker. Because I would rather have an uncracked Classic Space helmet than a cracked Benny Helmet.

I believe that the crack is moulded into the helmet, almost like having the illusion of a crack without actually making a pre-broken piece.

The one thing I'm happiest about with this theme is how Chris Miller and Phil Lord are forcing TLG to resurrect some of their older, extremely beloved characters, such as Johnny Thunder and Benny, and even the references to Blacktron and Fabuland.

I'm really hoping that this is the first in a franchise of LEGO Movies that will bring a whole new spark of creativity that seems to be lacking in recent years.

On pages 9 and 11 of my kids' latest lego magazine are pictures of the 2 variant MetalBeards. Page 9 is the one from the boat - he has a snarlier face and a couple of other minor differences with the one in the duel, but looks to be the same size.

Do we get different magazines in the US? I don't have any different pictures of Metal Beard on those pages. The only picture that looks slightly different is on page 5 and it is only because it is from the movie and has an extra chain and different pieces on the front of the treasure chest.

I am not really into classic space, but I definitely would be interested in Benny's ship. But the price definitely determines if I pick it up. The Sea cow will probably be a pass mostly due to price.

You probably do - and it will be better than the one we get in the UK, come out earlier, have polybags, Target exclusive figures and, if it could, cost half as much!! Maybe it is just from the film, although in the UK version it looks a lot like a real figure. But that may be because it's a film about figures. Anyway, the Sea Cow version looks to have an off-centre lock like that guy.

If it makes you feel better I've never gotten a magazine with a polybag :) I'm not sure why they made changes from the toy to the film as they look like those would have been easy to do for the toy as well.

Does Metalbeard's Ship count as one of the 17 sets? I think it might since it's part or the regular numbering, which is disappointing because that means there are no more sets to reveal. So no Batwing, sadly. Either way, it's fine I guess, since we're getting all these awesome homages.

Edit: 200th post!

I'd say so. Also, it was one of the seventeen sets shown on the designer's table.

I wasn't really expecting to see licensed characters in the LEGO Movie sets, because I can't see any reason the LEGO Group would add anything to a set based on one of their own IPs that would require them to pay royalties on that set, when they could just include the same figures or models in a theme they're already paying royalties for.
