just2good Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 The ideal release for these sets in my opinion would definitely be around the DVD release of the movie. We'd be seeing that around April-June, right around the Summer wave. Emmet's mech is definitely my overall favorite of these sets, with the Johnny Thunder set being a close close second. If it were to have a more enticing build I'd definitely make it #1, but the fact Johnny's in it makes it one of my favorite sets already. Yeah, the release of the Summer 2014 wave around the DVD release sounds the most plausible time frame. I'm completely with you on the JT set. It would be much better if the build itself was great, but the fact that we're getting JT makes it an amazing set. Can't wait. Plus, the eight figures is a great idea. Also, this is coming up! Best free TRU build ever! Quote
Lego Spy Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Do we know anything solid about the Barnes and Noble event this Saturday? Me and a friend are going. (snip) Best free TRU build ever! Great! Edited January 22, 2014 by Lego Spy Quote
ResIpsaLoquitur Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 (edited) Just2Good, thanks for the heads up on that. I've been anxiously awaiting TRU to announce a TLM event, and there it is. I added it to the Lego Movie events page in the general forum. BTW, Emmett's car appears almost identical to 2010's Small Car. Am I wrong? Do we know anything solid about the Barnes and Noble event this Saturday? To my knowledge, the kids are getting a poster and watching the trailer. My hope is that they have a super-secret unannounced polybag for the kids, but nobody's said as much yet. Edited January 22, 2014 by ResIpsaLoquitur Quote
CityBuilder Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Emmet's car is almost the same but it has mirrors, a rounder front bumper, and the plate under the windshield is black rather than white. Quote
eldiano Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Just a question what is the purpose of this movie, the sets do not make any sense at all and just seems like they just threw all the Lego together and made sets from random pieces. I am just curious lol this is just a tornado of pieces. Quote

Debricker Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 That is a preliminary picture so it can have figs that are missing, not finalized etc. I expect Johnny Thunder to be the one from TLM book. I wonder how close the Dropship is going to be to the movie 'prop', they look exact. Also, this is probably going to be how Benny will look (molded 'simulated' crack): That would be a great way to make Benny in a more retro style. If that is how Benny will actually be designed, I would want to get a few of the helmets. Quote
Flipz Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 LEGO...LEGO why...? I need to eat, LEGO, stop making so many awesome sets!!! (No, I'm kidding, don't stop, food is overrated. ) Quote
Cammo Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Nice! I was going to buy that city car and mod it to Emmet's. Too bad it's not available in most stores where I live. But now I can get a close-up of how it's build due to that building event. Quote

robuko Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Piece of resistance news from a children's book I saw today: In the end, Emmet convinces Lord Business to put the Piece of Resistance on the Kragle to save the world from what he has unleashed. Character arc for the bad guy! Quote

Lyichir Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Just a question what is the purpose of this movie, the sets do not make any sense at all and just seems like they just threw all the Lego together and made sets from random pieces. I am just curious lol this is just a tornado of pieces. The movie is essentially about the fight between President Business (who requires all his underlings to follow the instructions exactly, representing conformity) and the Master Builders (who reassemble the ordinary models of Bricksburg and beyond into zany vehicles and weapons to fight back, representing the classic Lego spirit of unbridled creativity). However, from what I've read it's not necessarily putting one form of building above the other; rather, President Business's fault isn't that he follows the instructions or makes models that make sense so much as that he micromanages the lives of his citizens and makes them all do things his way. It seems that the moral is that you should do things your own way, and that there's more than one right way to build. I don't think the sets look at all like they made sets from "random" pieces. There's a clear emphasis on rebuilding, so you have sets such as a helicopter made almost exclusively of windmill parts or a robot made primarily out of fire truck parts. There's also elements that reinforce the fact that, yes, these are Lego toys. Lord Business' ultimate weapon is the Kragle, a worn away tube of KRAZY GLUE, and Vitruvius's magical staff is really just a chewed-up lollipop. Lord Business' forces represent conformity, either in the form of the robotic sci-fi Super Secret Police or the boxy, jet-black Micro-Manager robots. Other characters include Uni-Kitty (whose candy-colored domain of Cloud Cuckoo Land adds a bit of a feminine angle as well as a feeling of pure whimsy), MetalBeard (a pirate who rebuilt himself into a mech when he was killed by Lord Business' forces), and of course Benny the Spaceman (from the Classic Space sets of old, with a broken helmet like so many figs of that era). All in all, you can't look at this theme or the movie itself with the serious lens you'd look at Lord of the Rings or Super Heroes or Star Wars or even City with. It's not trying to recreate a singular subject so much as it's trying to capture the Lego experience as a whole, which means humor and whimsy and creativity and fun. Quote
Darth Punk Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Hoth bricks is reporting: Another interesting information, set 70810 MetalBeard's Sea Cow will be available in preview for members of the VIP program from February 17 to 28. http://www.hothbricks.com/ Quote
ResIpsaLoquitur Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 I got an e-mail from Barnes & Noble about the event. It says "Fun and engaging hands-on activities," "Screening of the movie trailer," and "Ticket giveaways at select stores." I wonder if "hands on activities" means kids will get to play with, but not keep, one of the sets. I know they did something similar for the Architecture Studio launch--did anyone attend that? The ticket giveaway is news to me, though. "Select stores" is a little disconcerting, though.... Quote
bekindsorewind Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Having all but 3 of the LEGO Movie sets I can say Rescue Reinforcements is one of my absolute favorites of the entire batch. So many unique and fun features and the Fans are awesome. Quote
SMC Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I think the best is yet to come the 4 sets we are still waiting for. Quote

Ridge Montante Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Wow, I'm not a big classic space fan. But that figure is amazing looking. So vintage looking! Love it. Quote
Lyichir Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Chris Miller on Twitter has posted a pic of the Benny fig in the flesh! -Sci Is that the one that will be in sets or the one they used for filming the movie? I can't tell. On the one hand, it looks as faded as an original classic spaceman might be (although that may just be the lighting). On the other hand, it seems to lack the dings and scratches that movie!Benny has, and the print looks like a stippled print instead of a print with realistic wear. Quote
