The Sea Cow is now available to VIPs. I'll take a pass on it, though. 250 USD for an overly detailed ship that would have to be reengineered to be useful in any other theme? Puh-lease! :hmpf:

I'm hoping that the Uni Kitty tail piece gets used in some future sets down the line. It would make an interesting detail piece on some modular building, or something.

So your criterion isn't whether the set is 'useful' for its own theme, but rather should fit in with alternative themes without being rebuilt at all? I take it you don't like any of the $250+ sets then, because I don't know which themes the Taj Mahal or the Death Star lend themselves to without being 'reengineered'.

Also, 'overly detailed' is rather confusing - usually AFOLs go nuts for detail, but now there's a tipping point where LEGO should use less?

Funny, I always thought the Death Star went with Star Wars.

That's his point. It would require significant re-engineering to make the Death Star fit with, say, City or Blacktron.

They don't watch Star Wars in the city?

I understand but the original poster was saying the sea cow doesn't fit into a theme of its own without modification. Unlike the Death Star which has its own natural theme. Most people who like pirates look for ships that are realistic, and not whimsical like the sea cow. And the steampunk nature, which I like, isn't readily available in any theme to provide this ship with a matching port. If you catch my drift.

The Sea Cow does fit into a theme of its own — It fits into the LEGO Movie theme. That was what GregoryBrick was talking about.

With how wildly successful The LEGO Movie has been, it shouldn't be any surprise that there's going to be a significant segment of the general LEGO-buying population buying it specifically for its role in the movie and not because they intend to integrate it into a more "traditional" theme. Some of the LEGO Movie sets, particularly the 2-in-1 sets, can be integrated into other themes with very little difficulty, but there's no reason to think that they all have to. One of the sets that seems to have sold like hotcakes, Cloud Cuckoo Palace, doesn't really fit into ANY other LEGO theme past or present. There's never been a theme with those kinds of "candy-land" visuals.

I'm gonna go ask my sister if I can put Orthanc in her town display. Cause you know, it's Saruman's house. And it's a D2C which fit into every theme possible.

REALLY want the Sea Cow.... Having $50 in VIP rewards helps.

So what's the availability of TLM sets in everyone's area at this point? Most of the Wal-Marts and Targets in my area are largely cleared out of them. Target around me still has some of the $30 and up sets, but the two $13 sets and Cloud Cuckoo Palace have mostly vanished. Even the Lego Store is sold out of the smaller sets. (I'm curious what they'll do for the Club meeting this weekend--they usually give out a low-cost set as part of your admission cost, and the cheapest TLM sets are gone. If they just give out CMFs as the goodie, I'll be disappointed.)

Both my TRUs are sold out- I was lucky to get 70807 on Saturday at one as the other was completely gone- there were a few lairs and reinforcements, but that's pretty much it. I'm going to target tomorrow, so I shall find out ;)

Ya see? This is why I told y'all to get the Cuckoo Palace before the movie hit!

One of the best sets in the entire wave.

My local Target and Walmart have practically the same shelf warmers: Star Wars, Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, and Chima. TLM sets are gone, as are TLM CMF's. The only one place I can rely on being the most stocked is The Lego store, but even that has been out of The Ice Cream Truck and Lord Business' Lair. TLM sets move off shelves very quickly.

I have also noticed that a lot of the City sets are vanishing off shelves lately. I wonder if the appeal of the movie has people snatching up City sets to create their own "Brickville".

ok why is Vitruvius not yellow and what does this mean?

It's not clear, but a significant possibility is that he was made dark-skinned at the request of his voice actor, Morgan Freeman. Just because yellow is commonly depicted as "raceless" for non-licensed themes doesn't mean everyone sees it that way, and I'm sure an actor of his caliber had some say in what his voiced character would look like.

but does that now mean yellow is white? I think its a bad mistake not to have them all yellow

btw Lego movie is now in the top 250 film of all time on IMDb

Not this again.

I'm personally glad there's a mix in the Movie. Heard of segregation? Besides, it was an awesome movie, who cares if they aren't all yellow?

but does that now mean yellow is white?

Technically, yes. Minifigs are stereotypically "white". But, that doesn't mean they are. Either way, the film was awesome(from what I hear) and I think it was just a decision.

but don't you get it, if yellow is white then every non licence set only has white people in, if yellow is generic and without race then they are not white only and this is something lego said they would never do, if Vitruvius is licenced so non yellow then so should emmet

I think CMF series 2 fig the Disco Guy is a prime example of a yellow fig that could easily be a number of races, however I do agree that figs primarily portray a white stereotype. As for Vitruvius, who knows, but I'm glad they did it.

but would it not have been better for Morgan Freeman to voice a yellow fig showing they can be anybody you want them to be
