Clone OPatra Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 That video confirms how awful the new Luke looks even in animated form. His cheek-lines are just so wrong. I really hope somebody at LEGO wakes up and starts cutting back on the hideous extra lines on all of the minifigures' faces. The new Obi-Wan also looks pretty off. While the previous versions each did a pretty good job in their way, this new one's face doesn't remind me of Obi-Wan much at all. Quote
legofreak86 Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 On the contrary I think it may be the closest to Alec Guinness version they have done as his beard looks harsher and less neat and in the film alec's beard was quite unkempt. Also looking at stills of obi wan from a new hope the torso and legs are the most accurate of all versions as the brown robe printing is the most accurate way to show the robe which is worn over his tunic which is also movie accurate Add a cape and hood for effect and you've got the most accurate robed obi wan Lego has made. The Luke face is terrible though I agree! Why would they put that mole on a perfectly good face! Without that weird spot the face would look fine! Quote

Borex Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 (edited) For the dutch people; at the Bart Smit (toy shop), they'll give you the TC-4 protocol droid with any SW lego set. As long as the suplies last. Just got mine today! Don't know if it's available online as well. Edited March 15, 2014 by Borex Quote
Alfadas Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Sounds cool! But today I am with my grandparents, so I can't go and tomorrow it's Sunday, and then the stores are closed. Don't think they still have it on Monday. No TC4 for me. Quote
Cyberbricker Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 After seeing season 6 of clone wars its such a shame they have never made the sidious from season 5/6. The design is awesome and its actually the same outfit from the yoda vs sidious battle in ROTS. That is the only thing the 2014 waves are missing: A Yoda vs. Sidious set (CW or ROTS). There was so much potential characters left for Lego to make from CW. Its a shame Disney had to cancel it. Two of the arcs from the lost missions are questionably the best of the 6 seasons. So much wasted potential. Hopefully rebels won't be terrible and we'll get some good sets over the next few years. There happen allot of thing in season 6 that are a shame... I find it strange that the they seem to be trying to achieve something that's realistic or movie accurate. To me it takes something away from the real charm of lego and kind of defeats the purpose. If I wanted a minifigure that looked just like Luke I'd buy a black series figure at Forbidden planet. Quote

I couldn't agree more. Minifigures in Licenses need to capture the essence of who they are trying to portray. The essence does not necessarily line up with 'exactly how the character looks in the movie.'The original yellow old Obi-Wan had such an Obi-Wan quality to him - small, thoughtful-looking eyes and mouth, and grey beard. It did the job perfectly. Am I over-analyzing a minifigure? Maybe, but that's just what happens when you try to put a feeling into words. The new one, while perhaps more detail-accurate, just looks like some smiley old guy to me. It's not that way with every figure, though. I think the new Han does a wonderful job of capturing the essence of Han. Both of his expressions are spot on, and that makes him a much better Han than the previous standard-Han versions. So LEGO can do it, but sometimes (maybe a lot of the time recently) they've been missing the mark as far as I'm concerned. (It's one reason I really like the Clone Wars figures - they always capture the essence of the character.) Quote

Toby Adams Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) The TC-4 polybag is one I'll get but i'm not in a rush. My local online shop is selling them for £4.99 so i'll buy maybye four soon. This years sets are blowing me away. I love the Kashyyyk Battle pack and the Upatua BP but thats a LS exclusive over here . The BOS is awesome, like an special battle pack and then the wheel bike that does everthing for me. The Interceptor is cool too. But the main set that takes the limelight is to me, the Droid Tri-Fighter Edited March 16, 2014 by Toby Adams Quote
legofreak86 Posted March 16, 2014 Posted March 16, 2014 (edited) I agree about the clone wars figures really looking like the ones in the show and capturing the essence of the characters. That's why a CW sidious would work so well! Personally I prefer CW to the prequels anyway as the voice actors have really captured how the characters act. Heck when someone says Obi wan to me the first thing I think of is Alec Guinness and James Arnold Taylor's obi wan! I have always immensely enjoyed the clone wars so collecting the characters and sets is a no brainer for me as other than the original trilogy it is my favourite version of the star wars universe. I see what you mean about the essence I mean the Count Dooku CW figure is all about the eyes the narrowness and the facial structure just make him seem really sinister and it just looks like the clone wars character right down to the hairpiece.Whereas the movie one is an excellent representation of Christopher lee but isn't quite as menacing as the CW one. I love all the detail in printing they are putting into figures but the zit/spot on Luke's face is just overkill. Also just a thought but as sidious's hood hangs over his eyes a bit they may just recolor the one used on Ronan the accuser if they make a CW version hopefully. Sadly without printing a shadow over his eyes on the head they can't really get the menacing look right for the CW one. Also eyes need to be red to make him look more evil as blue looks too friendly. HanShotFirst Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Merchandise agreements are made by Disney and not J.J Abrams though and we all know how much Disney loves making money and merchandise. Usually agreements are made with various merchandise companies in advance and said companies are asked to sign a secrecy agreement. Everyone knows that the new movie is a definite hit and as soon as the kids ahve seen it they would drag ther mum and dad to the shops to buy the toys. And Lego and Hasbro are not just "some toy company" but rather the main SW toy makers that generate quite a large revenue. Usually most of the film is finished months before its screening date and adverts start coming out a month or two before the screeneing in order to build hype. So you can bet anything that Lego will make sure most of its best employees are locked in a room somewhere day and night (chained and with plenty of pizza and fizzy caffeinated drink designing the toys for the upcoming movie (Apple style ). That's true. Quote

MatthewH Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 The AT-AP looks almost exactly the same as the previous version, only new detail are the special green colored bricks. Com Gree and the wookiee look good. I recently bought the old version :S and it's a nice vehicle, maybe I'll buy the new one or just Bricklink the figs. The old version can perfectly stand on it's two legs, the third one is just a playfeature when you "fire" the large canon. I have to have the set to display with the figs. lol... Quote
legofreak86 Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Last night I tried putting CW's palpatine's pauldrons over a cape with a hood and it matches the look of CW sidious. In the finished version if they used the jor el cape colour for the torso and cape and hood or the dark red colour and either black or very dark blue pauldrons or maybe the one used on the arc trooper. I mean if you look at this picture of sidious the colours are quite vivid in CW more so than in the films. With either the Ronan hood or a regular one in dark red with dark blue pauldrons. Here's hoping http://img2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130314162648/theclonewiki/images/2/27/Dark_Sidious_(2).PNG Quote
Steph 104th Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 I've been struggling to recreate the version of Sidious too, but to no avail Quote
