Legoman123 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I had the chance to see the new sets in person and I am honestly a bit underwhelmed - no, I am not trolling. They all looked really final. Sets, minifigures, packages. All of them seemed to be pretty final. Snowspeeder is still the same old 4500 set with very little, very minor changes but it is sort of even bigger and more bulky. When 4500 was already too big compared to the source, it is even bigger now. Luke, Dak, Snowtrooper. Nothing else, no turret, nada. Rebels sets were demonstrated and didn't seem 100% final. The bigger ship has a double cockpit and a turret, 2 escape pods at the sides and kind of a docking area for the smaller ship in the back. That's it. For the fans I would say. The chopper droid seemed final but the other figures not. The AT-AT didn't get much attention from Lego and also not from me, as I have 4483 which I think was years ahead for it's time and still looks good today. Has been discussed already here. The cantina looks tiny in person. There is just not much to it. Ben is new with his brown coat printed on, Luke has a new face, Greedo and the Bith band look great, Landspeeder has new color, Dewback looks awesome, Sandtrooper is - again - new. He has the small black thing from the backpack on his chest printed. Helmet seems to be the same old one. Oh boy, Lego. You and your slight updates. You hate us army builders, right? They were proud of the ISD and demonstrated it. No place in the tower. Shooting missiles, all the little turrets move from a wheel in the back. Folding it up, there is a play area that is way better than in the last one but still lacks detail. The microfig holo is a nice feature, mouse droid and - new Stormtroopers with leg prints. (please check above what I think of slight updates so soon after we got BPs) The officer had a new hat (not the Western version anymore) The B-Wing looks great, the figures (the Numb guy and the Rebel Soldier) look amazing. The Advent calendar seriously has Tatooine Luke. Which was a big disappointment for me since I was hoping for Hoth Luke. Thank you ever so much for the information. I just have a couple of quick questions about the sets you have seen. Firstly what was in the interior of the ISD? Secondly did the Bith Band come with their instruments? And lastly did the Cantina look like it could have add ons, like Jabba's Palace? Quote
Zzz Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 The ISD lies flat down on the table, the underside is entirely flat and not angled as the original model, that makes it stable and gives it enough space I believe. It has a fold out handle on top and as others have mentioned, it is heavy, but stable. It might not be everyones cake the way it looks (being not too high), but I like it, as it looks menacing and smooth. There is not as much interior as I would have liked to see, I remember it being very dark with black and dark grey, no strange yellow colors or anything. I saw Vaders chamber on the left side of the ship, in the back, the other side was kind of empty. Inbetween, running from the middle to the back there was a structure holding the tower when attached. In the front I believe there was a hole in the bottom and what I believe some weapon shelfs but seriosly, don't nail me down, I didn't get such a good look on it. For the cantina, I think they had their instruments, being the little box, and 2 pipes. I remember the new face on Luke, color of the Landspeeder, new torso on Ben and Sandtrooper, all this. I think they had their instruments. I remember that the booth where Han sits is actually so tiny and busy that you cannot see the floor at all. There are 2 chairs being 2x4, a table with 2x4 and that's it. It could always be that they add something to the cantina, but I wouldn't hope for it. It doesn't look like there is anything planned and to be honest, there is nothing missing (except a ton of figures). Droid detector at the entrance, Han's booth, room for the band, bar, it's all there. I believe I forgot to mention that there were no new Microfighters, which was a bit of a let down, cause I love the X-Wing and I would have liked to see a chibi AT-AT. Quote
wesker Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 How much different is Luke's new face to the Ewok Village/Rancor Pit one? Quote
ISDAvenger Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 (edited) I couldn't say if it was different to be honest, sorry. It doesn't come with a stand or any other ground stuff. The model looks amazing, but about same size as last one. It looks more heavy with a bit more detail, though. I focused more on the figures, though. One red pilot was in the cockpit, the rebel figure seemed to have a new torso and the Nunb figure was entirely new with molded head and looked amazing. Seriously, those figures were having so much detail, it was amazing. Like all previous versions it holds 2 figures (or help me if I didn't get your question). The interior has those new parts from the Friends or Turtles lines, where you can put the minifig legs into. The interior looked much better than previous versions, no yellow or any strange color. The sticker in the back was the same as in the Wampa set (where it was first used I think). I couldn't honestly say if they were white or grey. I couldn't honestly say, it looked very much like the one from the Planet set. A few Sandies have that small black thing there. Not all seem to have it, though. I tried to do some research but didn't find out what it is supposed to be. The new Sandy has that on the upper left chest, as the trooper pictured. The back pack was the same as ever, the helmet was - I believe old, the pants as well. See my opinion about the updates above. We're in the same boat here. The small black pouches are where the recharge packs for their blaster rifles are stored. The backpacks are rebreathers for the desert environment. Edited February 3, 2014 by ISDAvenger Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Droid detector at the entrance, Han's booth, room for the band, bar, it's all there. I'm glad that's all included, but yeah......the missing minifigures. I still can't get over no Ponda Baba, Wuher, and Dr. Evazan. Quote
ResIpsaLoquitur Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Do you recall which minifigs are in the Calendar overall? My recollection from the fuzzy Youtube video was Santa Vader, a (possibly) 501s Trooper in a Santa hat, a green Astromech, Tatooine Luke, and General Rieekan. SW calendars typically have 8-9 figures, so I'd like to know who the others are. I'd be astonished if there's no Battle Droid.... I don't buy SW sets very often, mostly due to the cost. The Advent Calendars tend to be my only shot during the year to get some figures. Thanks! Quote
Snowspeeder Pilot Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 (edited) Oh I forgot to mention about Rebel Pilot (advent calendar), it is new? different helmet and face print or it is the same from planet sets (X-Wing and Snowspeeder)? Edited February 4, 2014 by Snowspeeder Pilot Quote
Darth Nader Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Thanks for all of the info Zzz. This may sound a little weird, but what are your opinions on the ISD. You gave a lot of info about it and it doesn't seem as good as the previous one, and I'm a little curious myself because I thought it would turn out to be the best one of the wave. Quote
Sir Brickalot Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Thanks for all the info Zzz. A lot to take in there. B-wing sounds awesome, cantina should be great, but the others... Eh. I'll have to see the official pictures before I judge. Quote
Dayton Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I have been waiting for a half a decade for a Cantina! Quote
Darth Malgus Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Wonder what else may come with the set, cannot understand why the ithorian minifig would be made if it wasn't to be used in a cantina scene, perhaps an expansion akin to the Rancor pit in the jabba's palace scenario? Hoping they add more Greedo was in the last I'd prefer Ponda Baba and Dr Evazan, at least that way both iconic scenes from that environment are covered. It is the first time in Star Wars we see how powerful a weapon a lightsaber is... Quote
Artizan Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I think the officers are getting the same cap that comes with the painter figure from the collectible series, which I think, does not look as decent as the cavalry kepi. Quote
Robianco Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 It's not the most difficult thing to change if it does indeed look a bit rubbish. They may grow on me though. I find it more interesting that they seem to be intent on bringing back earpieces on the figures which reminds me of the old figures such as the rebel Hoth soldier from back in the yellow days. Quote
Cwetqo Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Why did they have to this: No greeblin and visible joints. Quote
TheBear Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 No greeblin and visible joints. At least it's better than 6211 which had huge holes and white technic bricks visible Quote
montgocloud Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 The Star Destroyer sounds (and looks) like it will be leaps and bounds better than the 2006 version, but it's a shame that the interior is still pretty barren. I'm not sure what the hole is for, as I thought it was said somewhere that there would be no escape pod feature; I could be wrong about though. Quote
Only Sinner Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 At least it's better than 6211 which had huge holes and white technic bricks visible Yes, exactly that. The flat bottom is something I can forgive, but the huge gaps were a concern. Just from the description, the ISD sounds many parsecs better than it's predecessor. Quote
HawkLord Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Thank you Zzz for the information! Sounds like it will be a light year for me and Lego SW. I can't help but feel that the small upgrades just makes this feel more like filler material. I know Lego (like a lot of companies) were banking on the 3-D movies carrying things for a few years, but now all that has gone out the window. This kinda looks more like a wave just to carry us over to Rebels and new movies. Quote
Legoman123 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Well I'm still going to pick up the Cantina, but I did expect more minifigures from it. I guess there is potential for add ons in the future though, and it is a lot better than the previous version. Quote
Ki-Adi-Mundi Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 A big thanks to Zzz for sharing this valuable info with us! Generally spoken i feel comfortable with the announced wave of sets. It's going to be an expensive summer, i guess. Cantina and ISD - and some yet secret sets (a new Cloud City and TIE Interceptor, anyone?! ) - are the most important sets to me. While the cantina looks good and can be complemented with some existing sets, i have some issues with the anticipated Star Destroyer. This is probably the set, which i expected the most and 6211 was a main reason to leave my dark years. I am a bit saddened that the bridge won't be playable. It seems to be better scaled in comparison to the rest of the ship but 6211 was better in this regard. Hopefully the standing base for the destroyer won't be entirely flat as Zzz posted. The prelim pic (box) shows hte ISD dagger shaped with some angular build in all directions going from the nose. Being entirely flat on the bottom would also steal away valuable room from the interior. Thus i pray for a closed interior without notable gaps and a representative overall shape of the whole of the ship. The hole in the bottom must be there for a reason. I assume that either some capsule will be included or that the microfighter TIE Interceptor fits through the 'hangar bay'. The set composition of the snowspeeder at this astonishing price (39,99 EUR!!!) remains a mystery to me. Easy pass when owning a flying circus of 5 already. Quote
Archer Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 If anybody remembers the pic we had of a retail catalog with Anikan, we have already seen what the bottom of the ISD looks like, it does not sit entirely flat, just flatter than the previous model. Quote

I have seen the named prelim pic of the cataloque. But having done this does not let me actually 'know' anything but which sets are about to be released. The ISD lies flat down on the table, the underside is entirely flat and not angled as the original model, that makes it stable and gives it enough space I believe. *snip* That's what i am referring to - he has seen the upcoming sets in person... Maybe this can be clarified. Quote
ablake90 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 More changes? Surely half of these figures are already at the peak of their design. I'm gonna bricklink that twi'lek from the rebels set just to add another alien to my collection. I feel like future rebels sets will be brilliant for giving us parts for customising our own characters. I'm glad there are no more clone wars faces but the general torso and leg prints are still pretty poor, kind of amateur as though there are two designers working the minifigures one is amazing the other is using ms paint! Maybe this can be clarified. Just to clarify I'm not referencing the leaked catalog entry for the set. There was a catalog cover that had the ISD in "about to abduct the Tantive IV" looming mode where the whole underside of the ship is clearly visible. It probably does look nearly flat in person, but there is at least a slight angle where the sides come up. Found it Edited February 4, 2014 by Archer Quote
Legoman123 Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Is there any way we could still see Wuher? In the advent calendar perhaps? Quote
