House-of-plates construction never looks as good or holds together as well as bricks.

http://www.geeky-gad...Sandcrawler.jpg

For me, I'd prefer to pay more to get a more complete looking design.

Came across this pic, not sure if it is official, proportions look good but not a fan of the exposed studs http://www.flickr.co...02/12851561125/

Personally don't see the problem with the brick construction of the original either. What let it down was the poor and somewhat random 'weathering technique' they used. Just random different coloured bricks all over the place. The use of smaller plates in the link posted by Sasbury would give a much better effect on brick built sides, even in a smaller model.

Looks good, but there better be more to it if it's going to be +$300. At least Beru and part of the homestead would be great. I mean I don't know if Beru and the homestead would ever be a set by itself, so this would be the ideal place to put it.

Must be the position from where the photo was taken but that Sandcrawler looks small--too small to be a $300 set.

While i am not so into the really big and expensive sets, the Sandcrawler looks good to me. To justify the rumored price tag, there have to be some more detail and play features, however. Maybe we get one of the Lars' huts or two?

I'm an owner of the original Sandcrawler. It's got a lot of play from my kids since we (that's to say I) bought it. Because it's so big, the brick construction worked well for me. It has stayed pretty much intact in every game and is strong enough to be played with. The only usual casualty has been the tracks, which are easy to clip back into place.

I really like the look of this new version though, and will be sorely tempted to get it, especially now my kids are older and less likely to have difficulty with the plate construction which will presumably be weaker than the brick- built version. I do think it looks better on the outside than the original: the key issues for me will be what else comes with it, the interior, and the price once those are factored in. It's been a while since we got any SW sets, and eyes are already on Mos Eisley and the ISD, so the Sandcrawler needs to get its price right.

No offence to sandcrawler lovers but $300 for THAT is awful, Lets face it the sandcrawler was in 5 minutes of episode 4 for a couple of un-iconic scenes, Not only this but the shape is ugly, The look is unfinished and rough, It is covered with exposed studs (making it worse than the original) And it is overall unexciting to me. Why not make something a bit more recognizable, And if they really wanted to make something big and brown why not a geonosian arena or something?

If i was going to spend that sort of money on something big, Boxy, Brown and un-iconic i would buy this http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201402262085912/sort/default/usedcars/onesearchad/used%2Cnearlynew%2Cnew/postcode/ip327pp/page/1/price-to/500/colour/brown/radius/1500?logcode=p At least you can drive it...

Anyway i dont mean to come across badly as Star wars is one of my favorite things in the world and i LOVE big Star wars sets, Just not this one :sadnew:

But LEGO loves making Star Wars sets based on vehicles that are seen for split-seconds!

(But yeah, where's our Arena? I guess that scene doesn't have the OT nostalgia value that will make this set sell).

I think the Sandcrawler is exciting enough, especially as this is only the second set they've ever done. I'll definitely be getting this when it comes out!

And yes, hopefully they include part of the homestead, or at least Beru! She'll never be in another set for obvious reasons, and it seems the sort of thing LEGO likes to do (throw in valued characters wherever they can, however tenuous the link to the scene)

And we haven't seen all of it, we can't judge the price too harshly yet (and has the price even been confirmed yet?).

Very excited!

I'm sure we will get more than just the Sandcrawler if this price is correct!

I'm ok with that!

The Sandcrawler is the big playset of 2014. (Like Ewok Village for past year).

For that price, (If it's correct), I'm guessing we have the farm, many droids with R2-D2 and C-3PO (maybe in chrome with printed legs), and Tursken raiders on banthas...

I don't think it will just be the Sandcrawler but as nobody has seen what will be included I think it's better to reserve judgement.

If they include the homestead, the metallic C-3PO and aunt Beru then were starting to get there.

To really do this set justice, they need (in addition to Owen Lars and 3 x Jawas): C3PO, R2D2, Gonk droid, RA-7(one with a proper insectoid head, not that black C3PO headed rubbish that we got with the Death Star), the R2 type unit with the conical head (that "has a bad motivator"), the spider armed one, the one that was basically a dome and an aerial on wheels, R1G4, Aunt Beru.

I hope this is one of those sets that looks far better in the flesh than it does in those pictures. It doesn't look incredibly large at about 58 studs long, not for $350 (likely £250/E300). how many of the piece count will be swallowed by those treads? Not impressed with the lazily placed 2 x 1 yellow trans plates for the cockpit windows either.

As someone who owns the original, I'd rather have trans tiles than the stickers.

Guys, I don't think this will be $350! It will likely be $250-$280, the first if it's just the crawler, second if it has the homestead. I think they want this to be something that kids want and can actually get for Christmas- like the Ewok Village. Look how many people got it at Christmas! If it's $350, WHO is going to buy it?

As for the set, I really like it. If it doesn't have the homestead, I bet they will still put Aunt Beru in it.

There will (have to) be a lot more minifigures and other stuff in the set if it's going to be such an expensive set.

I don't like the viewports being just the yellow transparant bricks though. It looks cheapish and the brown studs beneath show through, so that will need to be fixed somehow.

Other than that it looks fine to me! This will be an expensive Star Wars Lego summer :vader:

Nice, thanks, Brickmamba. :classic:

I like the weathering and the shaping a lot better on this one; the angles seem more accurate just off of my first impressions. I'm also in the 'wish it had fewer studs' camp, purely because I don't like a lot of studs on pretty much anything, but I'm happy to have plates instead of bricks if it means that the more complex angles in this edition are possible with TLG's strength requirements.

I'm not a huge fan of the chains used on the front door. Makes it look too much like a castle drawbridge.
