StoutFiles Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I hate pretty much everything about the new Sandcrawler. The size, the switch from bricks to plates, THE PRICE...everything. Hopefully someday we'll get a UCS Sandcrawler instead of these System abominations. Quote

arc Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 Great! Now you can save your money and stop the complaining. Everyone wins he was just expressing his opinion. No need to be condescending. Anyway, I'm not a huge fan of the sand crawler, but $300 seems like quite a lot for what's pictured. Maybe there's more? It would be nice to see the homestead and a moisture evaporator, but is $300 confirmed? Quote
Brickmamba Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I know it's just me but from what I see in that picture of the new Sancrawler, the MSRP should be around $199.99. Including 10-12 minifigs. Why stop at 12, lets include some tuskens and banthas and make it 20 Quote
Brickadiergerard Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 I completely agree with the comments about the SC price. Surely it can't be $300. I wouldn't buy a real one for 300, let alone a lego one. But THAT one for 300? It must be cheaper than that if they want to sell any, mustn't it? Even if you add in a homestead and as many figures as you can imagine (and I can imagine quite a lot) it can't be 300, can it? Can it?!? I assumed the rumours about the price were wrong once I saw it wasn't really a UCS version. Quote
legolandia Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 This year's lineup has been great, but the Sandcrawler is disappointing. It's better than Lego's previous version, but compared with the CUUSOO winner and the rumored $300+ price point I had hoped for a lot more. House-of-plates construction never looks as good or holds together as well as bricks. http://www.geeky-gad...Sandcrawler.jpg I'm wondering if Lego was concerned about having too many high-priced sets and scaled back on this one. It's a safe bet this plate-based construction is less expensive than the brick built style in CUUSOO. For me, I'd prefer to pay more to get a more complete looking design. I think Lego is going the same way they did with Jabba's Sail Barge with this set. I.e. smaller and cheaper. Which I quite like since these two vehicles are not particularly that important anyway. I'd much rather have the Falcon and Slave 1 in UCS scale. Quote
Something_Awesome Posted March 2, 2014 Posted March 2, 2014 No, the price is not confirmed. The 250-300 dollar price was speculated last year when it was thought that the set was going to be a UCS (even though the set number did not follow UCS numbering). Not sure why everyone is saying it's going to be 300; you'd think the price was written in the bible with how hung up they are on that price tag. Quote
Kraby Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I thought the price came from here? http://www.brickshop.nl/lego/lego-star-wars/lego-75059-sandcrawler-ucs.html?Itemid=98 Quote
Chills Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) Where is everyone getting $300 from? The Sandcrawler certainly doesn't look like it will cost that much. EDIT: Kraby posted as I was typing this. The link may be valid but I think there will be a price adjustment. I doubt that set will sell for $300 in the U.S. I really like the new design, especially how the plates more accurately depict the angles and the weathering. I'm also excited to see the new Visual Dictionary. Edited March 3, 2014 by Chills Quote
Brickdoctor Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 The original source of the rumor had the $299.99 price. Quote
wesker Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 To really do this set justice, they need (in addition to Owen Lars and 3 x Jawas): C3PO, R2D2, Gonk droid, RA-7(one with a proper insectoid head, not that black C3PO headed rubbish that we got with the Death Star), the R2 type unit with the conical head (that "has a bad motivator"), the spider armed one, the one that was basically a dome and an aerial on wheels, R1G4, Aunt Beru. No need to worry about RA-7 having the wrong head since we're getting an accurate figure in the Jedi Hunter set. I can see Lego reusing the X-Wing's R5-D8 figure as R5-D4 since the two droids are identical in the movie. Quote
Darth Malgus Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I like the look of the Sandcrawler, I passed up the 2005 model so will definitely be buying this. I like that Jawa's are included perhaps we may get another 3P0 - lego printing? and the R2 that was used in the Jedi Starfighter for this year also, R5 would be a good choice as it hada faulty motivator and Lego can use that moulded piece again, can never have enough droids! I hope we get a portion of a homestead and some tuskens but I like what has been shown so far! Quote
Something_Awesome Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 The set is going to need help if it's going to hit the 300 dollar mark. That is, a motorized crane and lights. And perhaps it should be able to move forward and backward using a controller as well. Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 If the Sandcrawler goes for $299.99 or higher, it needs to have a minimum of 20 minifigs, a bantha or two, Lars Homestead and some free passes for a family of 4 to Legoland. Quote
will Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 The link on the Dutch site has a different model number compared to the picture, so maybe there are two versions? I think it's likely to be £100-120 for the sandcrawler we have seen a picture of. Assuming it comes with a bit more than we can see. Quote
BimmerBoy Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 No offence to sandcrawler lovers but $300 for THAT is awful, Lets face it the sandcrawler was in 5 minutes of episode 4 for a couple of un-iconic scenes, Not only this but the shape is ugly, The look is unfinished and rough, It is covered with exposed studs (making it worse than the original) And it is overall unexciting to me. Why not make something a bit more recognizable, And if they really wanted to make something big and brown why not a geonosian arena or something? If i was going to spend that sort of money on something big, Boxy, Brown and un-iconic i would buy this http://www.autotrade.../1500?logcode=p At least you can drive it... Anyway i dont mean to come across badly as Star wars is one of my favorite things in the world and i LOVE big Star wars sets, Just not this one The droids and Luke meeting up is un-iconic? R2 getting sucked into the Sandcrawler was classic. As a kid, I loved the interior shots of the Sandcrawler with all the droids, parts, junk, etc. Lots of stuff for the imagination to process. And of course the "bad motivator" sequence was great! And with your reference/link to "big, boxy, brown and iconic," I thought you meant a UPS truck... :) As for the set, it seems like we'll just have to wait and see about specific inclusions in the set and the actual price point. Brickwright Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Count me as one of the ones who prefers the House Of Plates design. I never liked how the 2005 one was shaped because of the bricks. The colors on the hull are also much improved. The addition of dark brown and dark tan, as well as the reduction of tan and black has made for a much more consistent scheme. I'm very surprised that Lego stacked the plates up near the top front along that downward crease. It doesn't quite feel like a technique they would use. The screen on the bridge looks like 3PO in the desert. If so, fans are going to get a lot of use out of it as a TV playing the film. I think the RA-7, and new R4 droids are likely, as wesker said. Malgus' comment about a 3PO with leg printing wasn't something I had considered, but it seems very possible. If they do, I'm guessing they will incorporate his silver right shin into it, too. In addition to R2 and 3PO, I figure it will have an RA-7, R5, a new treadwell, and a new gonk droid. A new R1 would be nice (especially in dark green), as would that black dome droid, but I think these are secondary. Quote
TheBrickHitHouse Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 To all those that moan about prices I'd just ask you consider a few things: 1) is it not better that a set exists than not exist? One can always save up - but one cannot dream a set into reality 2) just because you can't afford it doesn't mean this forum isn't filled with people that can. Don't spoil our enjoyment wit your jealousy. Why not harass people on an Aston Martin forum instead... 3) why would lego ever listen to your moaning when it is directed in such an absurd way? You are angry this set exists?! Quote
TheBear Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 It would be better to wait until we actually know what is in the set and the price is confirmed before complaining about it :) Quote

You are angry this set exists?! 1. No , because something else could exist in its place. They only release so many high priced sets a year. 2. It has nothing to do with being able to afford it. If they gave us the CUUSOO Sandcrawler at $1500 I would pee my pants and buy it Day 1. $300 is a ripoff here should they go with that price. 3. When did this site become a place that we are only allowed to voice positive opinions? And why would you care what others think anyway if you don't agree? Do people hating the cost ruin the enjoyment of the set for you? Be glad you like it. Quote
Csacsa234 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 On another topic, Didn't notice the jawas weren't wearing capes but I don't think they did in the film? They wore robes but in the previous edition they had capes on Jawas and I think they look better with it Quote
Seaber Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I missed the first Sandcrawler as it was too expensive for me when I was young, but I have seen it and I was never taken with it. It didn't look right, but it was a good set for 2005. I'm sure this new one will look truer to the designs. The figure selection was odd as well. Owen, the Jawas and the Gonk droid were fine, R2 and 3PO the same as every other R2 and 3PO at that time, but the other droids were pretty poor. The ASP droid didn't even feature near the Sandcrawler. Jawas and Owen are essential new figures to the Sandcrawler, with R2 and 3PO welcome returns, especially if they feature new printing (Dark Blue R2, Chrome/Legs printed 3PO). As said above, Porkin's astromech could be used as the malfunctioning R5. Lots of people have said about either Banthas with Tusken Raiders, or the Lars Homestead. If the $300 price is correct, then why not both? Lars Homestead with Beru and Luke, or else three Sandpeople and a Bantha. For the Various background droids, there could be minifigure RA-7 (same mold as from the second JEK set), or the CZ droid (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/CZ-series_communications/business_droid). Brickbuilt droids could include various Treadwells, the R1, the Minelayer droid, the KPR servant droid, the Scrubber droid, and the binary hydromech droid. The new Sandcrawler is another of the Pre-Death Star sets to get a revamp. I hope, in addition to new parts of the OT, Lego goes back and released updated version of some of the old sets, such as Cloud City and the Cloud Car, Yoda's Hut, the TIE Bomber, Interceptor and Imperial Shuttle. But Lego also released the Imperial Landing Craft and the Skyhopper, which could be re-released with a Bantha and Tuskens (ILC) or the Lars Homestead (Skyhopper). Obi-Wan's hut is another possibility. So, it is possible that we'll see the Lars Home or Sandpeople and Bathas outside this set. Quote
jee_ace_guy Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 (edited) Maybe the sandcrawler 75059 will be "simply" motorised like the at-at 10178 was ? What was the price of the 10178 when il wa released ? Edited March 3, 2014 by jee_ace_guy Quote

BrickG Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I think it's about time Lego found a way to make actual Lego-robes work without being capes. :P Quote
