If there is to be another large set (assuming that we can count the Mini as one) is it normal to release something like that on the same day as a D2C set from one of the licensed themes? I know that's what the VIP purchase option is at the end of July rather than one of the rumoured UCS sets from the Super Heroes or Star Wars lines. At least in the UK. Quote

The fact that the model was kept and displayed means there's enough of that build that the design team liked unless they keep all models that have answered a particular brief regardless of its 'success'. So we should be expecting the life sized bust of Watto soon? Quote

mhortar Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 I stopped by my local LEGO store in the US today. The Star Wars summer sets (or at least some of them) are supposed to arrive Monday and they'll be available for purchase. Apparently not all the sets will be available. They said they'd have the Cantina and the AT-AT, but not the Star Destroyer (not sure what others they will/won't have). I'll pick up what I can on Monday and report back! Josh Quote

Would definitely like to pick up the Cantina and AT-AT since I don't have an AT-AT yet. (Just got my first Episode V items last week when the Echo Base and Wampa Cave arrived. I personally find the busts odd but seeing as they released one it wouldn't surprise me if they looked to make some none human shaped characters. It didn't get made as a joke but it's success as a build is down to the design team... It just never got released. If ever there's a rumour of future busts I'm sure someone will crop that photo and ask the same question about a potential option! Quote

Robianco Posted July 12, 2014 Posted July 12, 2014 That's the thing about that photo of the studio... who knows what the criteria is for putting items into those cabinets? Orthanc is in the background so we know that is an example of an upcoming set but there's a ton of things in the front SW cabinet... the UCS Probe Droid, Medical Droid, 2 different Snowspeeders, 2 system scale AT-ATs, numerous figures on speeders, two different versions of the Sandcrawler... we're not talking about all UCS sets being there... or them just being reserved for prototype builds... They may even change the cabinets monthly. The Watto bust may have been the first large build by a particular designer so it stays... same as the Slave1... Maybe they keep things that are planned in the near future (2-5 years) in the cabinets as part of the ongoing design process. Not every model in those cabinets will be a future release... but it doesn't mean that at some stage they weren't built as a potential release. My original post was just in response to someone mentioning that that ship was a 'leaked' image... I'm surprised nobody has jumped on the Red Tie Interceptor as a leaked image of something for the Rebels sets! Quote

They are all prototypes of failed and already released sets. Literally the only thing from this cabinet there that was released after the pic went up is the AV-7 Artillery Canon and even then it´s obvious that they originally planned to release it closer to the beginning of the line in 2008 (when they actually used that artillery in the show) but scrapped it or pushed it back until this year because the design was so crap and had nothing better to release and also because limited releases of the Target/Walmart kind have crappier and unfinished looking designs. Everything else in the cabinet is a prototype of an old set (6211 ISD, UCS AT-ST, the Sandcrawlers which are obviously prototypes of the 2005 Sandcrawler and not the current release, how can anyone not see that?) or an unreleased set (UCS Vulture Droid and the Vaders Medical Droid were in a competition with the motorized AT-AT and a R2-D2 statue where you could vote which one gets released, Yavin 4 temple outside of the cabinet had a lengthy section in the first LSW dictionary where they explicitly talked about why it´s a crap set). And to tell you what happens to the few designs that are still in there: The Slave One is not a prototype of the one that will get released this year, the slope designs are lazy and outdated when looking at all the better parts and techniques that designers can and do use nowadays. Probably a prototype of a UCS Slave One that was supposed to release around 2002-2005. The Watto bust also looks more like it came from the 2001 era (regular blue and old/hard roof slopes being indicators), expected to see release alongside the Darth Maul head bust but never happened because nobody wanted that thing. The Probe Droid looks kinda fit for a release but is very small and most likely not on the price point of UCS sets and a statue set as a wide or store exclusive is out of the question after the failure of the Midi Falcon and ISD. The unreleased stuff that is left over won´t see releases because it´s TCW (cancelled), EU (now even less likely than before) or prototypes from a decade ago as well (Kashyyyk village). In before other themes in the pic: There are two unreleased Alien Conquest sets and Orthanc, everything else was released or isn´t even LEGO, sometimes an obvious MOC. So all in all, never mention that god damn picture again, there is nothing to talk about and please, can we all stop visiting rumor threads for a couple months? Here are no new infos to get until the press release of the Slave One at the end of next month and retail catalogue pics probably won´t release until October to Christmas. Not comprehensive of prototype models or of approved models... Just a mixture of both. At least it should kill the use of it as some kind of glimpse into what we could expect.
