Mahtion Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Neat. I wonder what if any legalities there would be for Lego to release a set based on that Imperial Troop Transport? Given that it is clearly based on the old Kenner toy. I would imagine that only if the name is copyright protected it would pose a problem for Lego. Inspiration or paying homage wouldn't violate intelligent property rights. Perhaps the rights belong to lucasfilm and now Disney anyway? Quote
Fives Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 The only things that MTT has going for it are the Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Naboo Guard figs. They're gorgeous. The rest is pretty lacklustre. Quote
TheBrickHitHouse Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 Isn't there usually 2 exclusives - we have the MTT and we seem to be missing something else... Quote

We are supposed to get the ucs slave I in august. That will probably take the place of another exclusive. Edited July 19, 2014 by GuyDudeMan27 Quote

Usually star was brings out 2 D2C sets and each wave has 2 "hard to find" sets. The D2C has nothing to do with these hard to find sets. Typically in the US toysrus always gets two for the year, one from winter wave and one from summer wave. Target gets 1 exclusive for one wave and Walmart gets 1 exclusive for the other wave. That said, we are still missing 1 hard to find exclusive since toysrus got the MTT already.. ...I just got ninja'd Nimrod Edited July 19, 2014 by namioik Quote

Reevr Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I think it's possible we might not see another exclusive this year. Wouldn't it be available at this point with the other summer sets at official Lego stores? Quote
LegoBari31 Posted July 19, 2014 Posted July 19, 2014 I think it's possible we might not see another exclusive this year. Wouldn't it be available at this point with the other summer sets at official Lego stores? That is true. Posters included with AT-AT and ISD only show minifigures from sets already released. The lack of a second exclusive set is probably the result of the large winter wave this year. Quote
rollermonkey Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Maybe the Lego Movie retailer exclusives took the place of the Star Wars one at one of the retailers? Quote
namioik Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Maybe the Lego Movie retailer exclusives took the place of the Star Wars one at one of the retailers? Uh I wouldn't think themes take retailer exclusive spots from other themes... Quote
rollermonkey Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 Like any of us know all of the contractual legalese between major global corporations? Or maybe we just have another surprise on the way, much like how nobody was aware of the impending MTT until it showed up on a Lego Store shelf a month or so back? Quote

If you think back to last year, the clone wars set 75024 was pretty sudden as well... Now that I think about it, if there is another retailer exclusive yet to be seen, I would bet my money on either a clone wars set or another rebel set Quote

Well if the troop transport is being used by Disney, that probably means they own the design, and since TLG uses designs from Disney now, I'd assume that it would be legal? Lol Quote

Lol Exactly. If the design is found in a Disney show and visual guide then they have the right to produce it. Either they purchased it from Kenner or more than likely acquired it from purchasing Lucasfilm. Kenner was probably under contract that anything they made under a Star Wars label was owned and copyrighted by Lucasfilm. In ways that fan fiction submissions or creations are property of the IP that they based it on. Or that EU material is freely available to Disney because Lucasfilm ultimately owns all Star Wars property. Sure more lego retail exclusives the better. It's nice to be pleasantly surprised. Quote

The Troop Transport was also used in a Marvel comic back in the 80s: When Disney bought Lucasfilm/Star Wars they also got the rights of the comics. Dark Horse had those rights, but that deal expires in a couple of months. From that moment, Marvel will publish old and new comics (the comic from which the picture above is will be re-released btw). My guess is that there should be no problem releasing that vehicle. Quote
Blackice200 Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 (edited) I just hope they change it a bit so that the stormies aren't stored in pockets on the side of the vehicle. Edited July 20, 2014 by Blackice200 Quote

Robianco Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 For me the beauty of the Troop carrier is FOR the stormies to be carried in pouches on the side... just like the old Kenner toy. That's the appeal of the design in the same way that a lot of the things in the show are from McQuarrie's concept sketches. Quote
Mahtion Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 If we do get that set and I believe we will along with the At-Dp we should be getting multiple stormtroopers. Of course they would be in the Rebels style which some do not like. I feel that the new walker At-Dp will be released because we haven't had an At-st in Lego form for some time and the pilot uses the same helmet mold that Ezra comes with in the Phantom set. Quote
addemlit Posted July 20, 2014 Posted July 20, 2014 My lego store had all the new Star Wars sets. This wave is expensive!! Quote
