Sir Brickalot Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) Wow! This is just exquisite! So many complex angles and curves... Definitely picking this up ASAP! Edited September 3, 2014 by Sir Brickalot Quote
m0dulo Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I expect this to be more like $229 to $249 when you factor in the George Lucas licensing fees. Quote
BrickG Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) I'm buying it. Looks nothing but good to me. Maybe a bit small scale wise but honestly the ship feels like it should be smaller anyways. I'm actually really excited for it. It looks really good. I've not bought a Slave I before. Hopefully next year'ish they'll do a minifigure scale Falcon and I can be happy forever. Edited September 3, 2014 by BrickG Quote
Robert8 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 While I have to admit Star Wars is not my cup of tea, I have to say this set is simply outstanding. Great design And I love the box art. It's one of the best ones I've seen recently. Very appealing. Quote
Tariq j Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) I like the accuracy of the new Bespin Guard. The new Han has some great face printing. And not too much like Luke from the Sandcrawler. I would have liked to see a Lando with this set. Oh well. I hope the UCS box art continues in this way. I prefer the box without the current Box art and with the Regular Star Wars logo on it. Edited September 3, 2014 by Tariq j Quote
konig78 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Differently from other UCS sets, it seems to be on scale for mini figures. Am I wrong? Anyway, it's definitely a must-have piece! Quote

Alot of UCS sets are on scale for minifigures. The falcon, Ewok Village, Sandcrawler, Death Star, Super Star Destroyer. Quote
Aethersprite Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 That Slave 1 looks absolutely amazing. Looks like it's going to be my first UCS set. Time to start saving! Quote
Artanis I Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Death Star, Super Star Destroyer. I don't think so. Quote
will Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I know my friend is going to buy this as soon as it's available so I'll wait until I see it in the flesh, and then make a decision for the May 4th promo, where it should be reduced a little. I agree it would have been nice to get a Lando in this set. Quote
DarthBrickus Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) Alot of UCS sets are on scale for minifigures. The falcon, Ewok Village, Sandcrawler, Death Star, Super Star Destroyer. I think you still have to distinguish between playsets (like the Death Star and Ewok Village) that "house" minifigs, and "minifig-scale"-Vehicles, like the new Slave 1 and (i think) the Lambda-Shuttle. I'm a big fan of the minifig-scale UCS-Sets either way, as i think the "supertoy"-thing appeals more to the kids and AFOL-masses than the "sculpture"-thing. I don't know if there are any sales numbers that can support that argument, i would be interested in those. Edited September 3, 2014 by DarthBrickus Quote
mortesv Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) I'm very, very pleased with this design. The new windscreen mold makes this model possible. Previous USC scale mocs have needed the larger windscreen to fully realize this model. The angles and proportions I can see are well executed, and It looks to be USC model that will be hard to improve upon - as I usually do with UCSs :) I'll wait with the final judgement, until I see the backside/engine section of the model. It is an area where official models from time to time sacrifice detail. Looking at the canon detail, missile launcher, entrance hatch, windscreen, and general shapes, the engines will have the be expertly shaped and detailed to live up to that. My fear is that since the backside has not been 'leaked' yet, it could be lacking #ConspiracyTheory :P Edit: It looks to be about 8 studs longer than Cavegod's. An excellent size - again only feasible thanks to the new windscreen :) Edited September 3, 2014 by mortesv Quote
wilson3a10 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 The slave 1 I like the box art. Good job! Quote

I can see your point. Thanks for pointing that out. The Lambda shuttle falls into the vehicles category as it is minifig scale. Edited September 3, 2014 by Tariq j Quote
TheBear Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 I was sceptical that they could pull off a decent Slave I but they have done a really good job on this. The custom windscreen helps a lot but they have really done the overall shape very well, the red apron must be very difficult to get right. I'm looking forward to seeing the underside. Quote
jee_ace_guy Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) To me, UCS means : Iconic, a lot of bricks and eventually exclusive figs I really don't care if it's minifig scale or not And to be honest all SW UCS sets can't be at scale It will cost to much and will take to much space ! Those things apart, please stop doing stickers for such expensive sets !!!!!!!!! Edited September 3, 2014 by jee_ace_guy Quote
DarthBrickus Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Those things apart, please stop doing stickers for such expensive sets !!!!!!!!! I'm counting 21 stickers, 8 on the red part, 8 on the "wings", 2 on the canopy, 2 on the green part the wings attach to, and one on top Though luckily, none of those look like they could mess up the model when placed less than perfectly. Just The Doctor Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 Its a shame it doesn't have lando or 4 lom, or even another guard or stormy. I would have also preferred Boba to have a green cape, as it looks better IMO, but I think he did have a brown one in ep V anyway. I really like the look of this set, and Boba's blaster is interesting, I would love to have it! Quote
TheBear Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 The lack of a Lando could be a good thing if he is being saved for a cloud city set Quote
Robianco Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 The lack of a Lando could be a good thing if he is being saved for a cloud city set That's pretty much my thought on this. I think there's a Cloud Car set and some kind of Bespin based set in the offing... It just seems to fit with the theme and scene based sets over the last couple of waves. Quote
Navy Trooper Fenson Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) This is the first set where I actually gazed upon a set going "Woooooooaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!" Such a beauty she is. Forget the Cloud City Boba, just imagine how much the Boba Fett in this set will be worth in ten years from now. Considering how this model is getting produced and sold in much larger quantities and for more than 2 years it will still be the grey Boba that´s worth the most. I will never accept a blue Boba Fett and still have my printed grey/8097 combo so this fig gets straight to Ebay/Bricklink. Do these UCS figs actually sell for 50$ or are those just wish-prices by the sellers? The UCS Slave I delivered on the hype. With the piece count, it feels like a $249.99 set. I hope I'm wrong and it's $199.99 though. Has the same box as the X-Wing and Modular Town Hall. UCS Sandcrawler also had 3200 pieces and cost 300$ and Ewok Village only was so far over the mark because of the Ewoks, ropes and countless figs while this is relatively moderate. I expect this to be more like $229 to $249 when you factor in the George Lucas licensing fees. I wish people could stop pretending to know how licenses work. That Slave 1 looks absolutely amazing. Looks like it's going to be my first UCS set. Time to start saving! Same here, first true UCS since the Death Star doesn´t count apparently and I never built that Star Destroyer. Will be a blast when I finally buy it in 2 years or so. I'm counting 21 stickers, 8 on the red part, 8 on the "wings", 2 on the canopy, 2 on the green part the wings attach to, and one on top Though luckily, none of those look like they could mess up the model when placed less than perfectly. I just hope they are transparent so they can´t disintegrate. The lack of a Lando could be a good thing if he is being saved for a cloud city set I just gave up all hope, we will never get Lando and I really don´t get how Lego can ignore the TESB duel and TESB in general so effectively for what is a decade next year. I didn´t expect any figures with this ship though. I actually hoped we wouldn´t get anything good so I wouldn´t have to pay scalper prices for the figs separate but this model is just so nice. I didn´t want to buy another Slave One after the 2010 and knew there would be a UCS release this year but now I just can´t keep the 2010 one with the UCS design floating around. Maybe I can use the 8097s parts for a Jango Slave One though. Edited September 3, 2014 by Navy Trooper Fenson Quote

It just seems to fit with the theme and scene based sets over the last couple of waves. I was telling myself the same thing when they released that lobot minifigure awhile back... Got me curious as to why he was the only figure that was new in the series yet we haven't gotten anything from cloud city since Quote

Lego knows Lando's popularity so if he was not included in this UCS then perhaps he is being saved for another set in the future. It could even be the much desired Cloud City. Quote
